Meet Dan Rosenheim, Captain of the KPIX 855 Battery Titanic; Where's Accountability?; GM Cohen Asleep at the Wheel

Image result for dan rosenheim kpix DAN ROSENHEIM is the VP and News Director of KPIX...currently the laughingstock of Bay Area TV News, given its Morning Show morph into complete chaos and embarrassment.

It was Rosenheim who OKed the hire of Roqui Theus --who we reported last week didn't know it was the Golden Gate Bridge she was looking at--on-air no less.

It was Rosenheim that hired new Morning EP, Brandice Bailey, who has built up, what some in the morning racket complain is, a much-too-chummy, outwardly inappropriate relationship with Theus.

Bailey hired Theus and continues to give her unconditional support, even though Theus is still terrible on the air. Rosenheim seems either oblivious to all this or doesn't care. Why should he? I mean, it's only some morning program on the #6 market  in the country, why concern yourself about such trivial issues.

How's that worked out for ya, Dano?

Image result for Frank MallicoatClearly, Rosenheim, in spite of the disaster he runs every day and who manages PIX like a guy manages his tee shot, has the blessing and support of GM, Bruno Cohen, who since taking his own gig, has apparently been kidnapped by the TV GM Witness-Protection Program because Cohen is seldom seen in the KPIX building.

While everyone acknowledges the Morning Show and its aimless direction is in shambles (the worst-rated show in Bay Area) we haven't even begun to mention the chaos during the rest of the day, like for example, What's the Direction of the Evening? Who is the Face of the Station? Which anchor is getting the shaft today? Nobody really knows at Channel 5, a place where reporters wear baseball caps and think they're cool. That's a Rosenheim specialty; he hires people that he thinks will draw some buzz from young people: "Hey look, TV reporter dude has a cap on!!--Let's watch, dude!"

Rosenheim needs to get up off his rear end and begin working for god's sake. He can't rest on his laurels and continue to brag about his background as a reporter at the SF Chronicle, what was that, almost 20 years ago when people actually watched TV News and inexperienced women from Sacramento weren't thrown on the air because they were simply hot and gorgeous.

Dano, might be time to chug a little less Guinness with the sports guy who looks in the mirror every day and thinks he's worthy to audition for The Bachelor, and seriously, get your game up because right now, you're really sucking YUGE, as someone would say.

  1. If their news judgement sucks, then why would you expext them to be hiring experts?

  2. And this is the man who wrecked the buffet at the Harrow Club? Look at his picture. The fool looks like a deer in the headlights. Good work, Phineas J. Whoopie. Because of you, I'd rather watch infomericals on Channel 44 in the morning.

  3. I happen to like Dan as a person, but you hit the nail on the head as to the "face of the station." After Dana left, there is nobody who moves the needle at 855 Battery. Not a soul. Look around the market:

ABC7- Dan Ashley and Ama Daetz to a lesser degree.
    KTVU- Frank Somerville
NBC Bay Area- Jessica Aguirre and maybe Raj Mathai
KRON- For bitter or worse it's Radnich

You look at PIX and who do you think of? Maaaaaaaybeee Roberta. That place definitely needs some sort of BUZZ. And spot on regarding the sports guy, Raddy, Jr.

  4. Idk why they think traffic reporting requires no experience or knowledge of our local roadways? Hiring because someone is the right color is just wrong. traffic is a major reason i watch the news in the mornings. I agree, george rask isn't brad pitt, but at least the man knows his job. i saw one traffic report at 8:55 this morning and the girl is just plain bad. Duluth quality, if that. Who is this new EP brandice? 6 months max for her and her "experiment".

    1. How is someone as hot and good at traffic as Erica on the radio? You said they didn't like her audition, but she was good on air at KRON and even better on KCBS.. A CBS station! I guess live on air doesnt performance is unimportant to CBS 5. She is from the bay, has the following, and shes black too right? So why Theus? There is no appeal there whatsoever. Can they have these two trade spots please? I bet Erica would spike the ratings. Cut your losses now with that current wreck

  7. Since KPIX had only 2 African-Americans Vern Glenn & the great Christine Ayers on the air it is understandable they felt pressure to hire another African-American but Roqui has been a complete disaster so far as their morning traffic person. If she shows no improvement & continues to regularly falter this is on Ms. Bailey & more specifically Rosenheim.

  8. In other words, Rosenheim has Larry Baer Disease. Gonna hire who he pleases, suppress constructive criticism from inside and outside the workplace, and accept the status quo. Cohen might have this, only in a more silent way. I wonder what the folks at NYC HQ think of all this.
And is the ex-NBA daughter the Amy G of PIX? Subpar, but clearly the station's personal choice and/or superstition-provoked hire?!

  9. The thing is, being a news director is not a hard job: just hire competent people, don't get them from "reporter schools" but from areas of expertise they'll be covering, and don't be motivated by politics. Fred Zehnder did it for years. Built the best bench in the business. The day he left the idiots who succeeded him started dismantling it. Look at that station now: a joke.

  10. The other sad thing is that Kessler and Kohara haven't been on air since they were canned. He's now a financial consultant, and she's got her own media production company. Not that those are bad professions (they're probably earning more now), but I'd rather see them than 95% of the other anchors in the Bay Area.
