The Dallas TV Sports Guy Who Took a Stand While Bay Area Sports Media Went Silent
I often get ripped for complaining about Sports Media People here who live in a bubble and think the World revolves around balls and strikes. It takes a national tragedy, sometimes, for them to get their collective head out of ass.
Thank God for Dale Hansen --a veteran Dallas TV Sports Broadcaster who took off his batting gloves and spoke on-air about the Dallas Police Shootings and Police killings of Black Citizens in Louisiana and Minnesota.
The video, courtesy WFAA, is above. Watch it.
Whether you agree with Hansen's takes is besides the point; Hansen chose to talk about what everyone, not just people in Dallas, are thinking and talking about. It was the right thing to do and Hansen didn't miss a beat.
Too bad we don't have that sports figure in the Bay Area.

Too bad we don't have anyone like that here anymore. Maybe Phil Matier now? Back in the day...Pete Wilson? Dave Maclhatton? What about editorials in general? Anyone....Anyone....Anyone?
ReplyDeleteThe GREAT Michael Savage.
DeleteBy "GREAT," do you mean racist?
DeleteRich, I know you won't publish this because any criticism of this cretin you take as a personal affront. So fuck you too.
Wilson would never say anything where he couldn't be a smug, superior jackass. Don't look for him for anything beyond circular file-wisdom.
DeleteBeautifully said by Mr Hansen. He's has been one of the last of a dying breed of great broadcast journalists. Dallas is lucky to have had him for many years. I have enjoyed hearing him on the Radnich show a few times over the years.
ReplyDeleteThat was very good. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThat was excellent. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHansen is one of a nearly extinct breed of local news personalities who actually has the gravitas and credentials to speak his mind and talented enough to say it eloquently. We're unlikely to see on-air talent like this again. The next generation will have to figure it out.
ReplyDeleteRadnich would only say something if a Bentley were shot up in the cross fire. Then he's say, "Oh, that's a nice Bentley, what a shame. That police officer's bleeding all over the paint."
ReplyDeletePerfectly said. How could any educated/truly patriotic individual not agree with what he said?
ReplyDeleteI like Dale Hansen. Also have heard him on with Radnich over the years... but isn't this the same thing Somerville gets lambasted for ?
ReplyDeleteMr. Hansen has a history of telling it right.

Good for him. I don't see any comparison with Somerville's antics and this editorial.
ReplyDeleteNaturally, not a word about gun control.
