You surely know Sara Sidner--she of International Correspondent for CNN fame and former anchor at KTVU --it's Sunday Night and Sidner has just settled in to her Cleveland hotel to cover the GOP Convention.
Albeit with a twist.
"I'm assigned to the protesters --should be interesting," she tells me over the phone; it's a late evening conversation, is everything cool, Sarah?
"I never sleep, Rich."
And I believe her, and why not? Sara Sidner, at only 44, seems to have seen and done it all. Whether bracing under sporadic gunfire in Mumbai or trying to wane off the same in Libya, the CNN star reporter has had a lifetime worth of adventure, most of it not so glamorous.
Has she ever been afraid, I ask.
"When you're on the story, you 'glued to it. You don't feel scared. It's like you're too busy just trying to get the story out so you don't pay attention to the obstacles."
I asked Sidner about KTVU, the old KTVU in the early 2000's when she was there anchoring and reporting before CNN called.
"KTVU was one of the best places I've ever worked. Add to that the beauty and diversity of the Bay Area and even I thought I was an absolute fool to leave. It was one of the hardest professional decisions I have made. That's all I know for sure."
Good night, Sara. Be safe in Cleveland.

I remember always thinking she was a beautiful woman. She looks different here. Either she had work done or just aged like the rest of us. I can't quite figure it out but she's still nice to look at.
ReplyDelete"Either she had work done or just aged like the rest of us...but she's still nice to look at."
ReplyDeleteStupid comment. Whether she's aged or not has no bearing on her beauty. Doubtful you look as good as she does at even YOUR age.
Ignorant response 9:26. Yes, it does. Have you seen Justine Bateman now compared to the way she looked in the 80's? She wasn't exactly known for her intelligence...she was known for her beauty. Try searching her on google now. A few years back a simple "Justine Bateman" search in google would return with recommended searches of "Justine Bateman looks old now". You only get that sort of response if tens of thousands have searched that before you.
DeleteThank you for participating in this conversation.
Wait, you considered Justine Bateman a "beauty?" Who's the ignorant one here?
DeleteI'll give you Lisa Whelchel, but Mallory?
Blair over Mallory? You might have cataracts.
DeleteCrazy talk. Mrs. Keaton over Mallory.
DeleteNo way! Lauren Miller over Mrs. Keaton and Mallory.
DeleteI have a preference for Mr. Keaton.
DeleteJustine Bateman and the other females mentioned - I have no clue who they are - no reply necessary, I'll Google'em.
DeleteShe is the epitome of a REAL woman, not plastic, blonde and fake. The female news "readers" in TV here couldn't hold her panties....
ReplyDeleteSara is a journalist, a true anchor and reporter.
ReplyDeleteMy Lawd that woman THERE !!! AND she's smart too ?!???
ReplyDeleteShe's 44?!? Wow...thought she was closer to 30...
ReplyDeleteNice Rich! I've always liked Sara's coverage in war zones, she's a hell of a lot braver than me.
ReplyDeleteSad to see all of the comments have to do about Sara's looks and not her abilities as a reporter. She is what we call in the industry, a 'Natural.' She sounds good, appears confident, and knows how to cover a story. I remember seeing her on KTVU and knowing she wouldn't be here that long. She was that good.
ReplyDeleteRich sets the tone for this blog and he leads the commentary that focuses on women's appearance. How many fat comments do we need on Jan Wahl. He justifies it by saying TV is a visual medium. What you won't see are comments about any male anchor/reporter's weight, bald head, plastic surgery, the desirability of their bodies or their choice clothing. You also won't see this comment because Richard will kill it.
DeleteI wonder if Hillary Clinton and Brian Williams were dodging bullets with her...
ReplyDeleteWhat DIFFERENCE does it make?
DeleteSara is one of the sharpest people I ever worked with. Her coverage in Mumbai, just a couple weeks after starting work in India was amazing. One of her next assignments was in Libya, where she did an amazing job following the fall of the regime.

ReplyDeleteIt looks like Sara lost some weight to me, she used to be much heavier during her time at KTVU...Doesn't matter tho, she is still an Excellent Reporter, with Brains, Beauty, & Smarts too!
KRON 4 has nothing to broadcast at 9:00 PM....Last night they are rebroadcasting their old "The Backstory"....terrible !!! Did you notice this Rich??
ReplyDeleteThere is one BIG reason she is dressed in all black.
ReplyDeleteA friend who worked with her at KTVU said she was hard-working and always willing to sling a tripod over her shoulder or help the guys behind the scenes. Her subsequent employment reinforces the belief she's a girl who doesn't mind getting dirty to get the job done.
