One of the Few Times Gary Radnich was Humble; Pete Wilson Encounter on KTXL, 1982
This is interesting --we go back to 1982 on Sacramento's KTXL (Now Fox40) with the late, great anchor, Pete Wilson, and some guy named Gary Radnich, you've heard of him.
Radnich is rather humble here, BREAKING NEWS, he did have a humble side. Radnich is about to exit Sacto en route to Columbus; four years later; well, the rest is history.
Couldn't have written it better myself. Even the best writers need editors and even the best sportscasters and newscasters need reality checks in the form of firm producers.
In 1989, I attended a Giants NLCS Playoff game. Radnich hosted a post-game show on-site, and many fans (including myself) stayed around to watch. Gary joked around with fans and his guests, including a young Matt Williams and his then pregnant wife. Radnich was fun, funny, somewhat down-to-earth, and caught up in the joy of the moment. How time and cynicism have sadly degenerated this man's on-air persona!
Anybody notice his teeth are perfect? Part of his advancing strangeness was having those choppers caps removed so he could have an ethnic "gapped teeth" look. It was a sign of things to come.
You reported a short time ago that Radnich and Darya had a secret lunch to pow wow about things at KRON and keeping in power. Well, the "Let's get Cathy" strategy sure backfired.
KRON gave him power and the power corrupted him. Sad to see in a way.

DeleteA corrupt sportscaster? Are you insane?
ReplyDeleteHe looks like the former Bruce Jenner.
ReplyDeleteExactly! First thought that came to my mind.
DeleteHalf the fun of reading Lieberman's website are reading the comments.
He's now a couple of biscuits north of 300 pounds, I'm thinking.
Delete34 years ago. So he was around his late 20s in this? He looked older than that with the lines in his face and all.
ReplyDeleteAlso, was funny to see he held copy in his left hand back then as he does now to hide the missing finger. Not a knock as I am a Gary fan.
Darn I thought Gary has been giving us his missing finger every time he goes on air!
DeleteHe's about 32 in this video. Love the early '80's do, the set, and Pete!

ReplyDeleteAnd he has eaten well ever since!
ReplyDeleteFatnich should've stayed in Columbus. That's where another Bay Area asshole, Bobbie Rudy Fitzgerald, used to work.
ReplyDeletehe looked more like a cover boy then!
ReplyDeleteFire Radnich - his act is old

Stan! welcome back.
DeleteThanks all. Radnich did nod at this very post, saying "he likes his teeth" on kron 4.
DeleteHe read it...or it was read to him.
Compare GR in the Sacto video with a Bruce Jenner Wheaties box....
