KTVU (Fox2) used to be real; used to be reliable, even in its present crappy form: Happy Talk, circa 2016 which is bad enough but worse yet, it's all total BS.
The back and forth between anchor and reporter on live shots; on weather and sports anchor; on the suddenly insufferable Jana Katsuyama is nauseating. What a total crock. Are you guys that gullible? KTVU's news managers must think so because, not only do they talk like pirates, they allow, obviously, total frauds to act as if they really know what the hell what they're talking about; not!
Bullshit. (That's right, I said it.)
How are we to take seriously a news operation who has its reporters and anchors take part in fake dialogue? Do they think the Bay Area viewers are that stupid? Obviously so. Maybe the onslaught of pathetic selfies has taken its toll. Maybe the FEAR and Paranoia inside is really, really, really, stark.
I will embellish later.
Yes, I don't mince words and use code vocabulary.
Is this how a serious news station portrays itself? |
Don't know about happy talk, but between Gasia looking more boobalicious than normal this morning and Rosemary Orozco's tight red dress . . . dayum . . .
ReplyDeleteBoobalicious sounds like a self portrait of your intellect. Dayum, you're dumb.
Delete@4:36 Said the person who spelled DAMN as Dayum. In the words of Obi-Wan Kenobi, "Who's the more foolish, the fool, or the fool who follows him?"
Delete"How are we to take seriously a news operation who has its reporters and anchors take part in fake dialogue?"
ReplyDeleteThat's what all TV news people do. Not just in SF, everywhere.
Try watching news in LA - it will turn your stomach. Happy Talk is here to stay. The days of Huntley/Brinkley and VanAmburg are GONE. And they weren't all that great then either. It's called ENTERTAINMENT first.
DeleteFake dialogue? That's what the Democrats feed the American people every election cycle.
Delete@10:59
DeleteAs opposed to the deranged blather of the GOP.
>>Fake dialogue? That's what the Democrats feed the American people every election cycle.<<
DeleteNo shit.
East Bay JAPs for Trump 2016!
Orientals for Obama!
DeleteAs opposed to the idiocy spewed out by rePUKEliKKKans on FoKKKs News???
DeleteI hope their ratings take a huge dump. They can join KRON4 at the bottom of the barrel. If KTVU didn't have the NFL on Fox and a few interesting prime time shows, they'd be in trouble. Look at KRON4, all they have is Dr. Phil. KTVU is like the tape recording on Mission: IMPOSSIBLE -- this tape will self-destruct in five seconds.
ReplyDelete"Happy Talk" has been around locally since the days of VanAmberg, LaCoss and Eddie Alexander.
ReplyDeleteStick a fork in them, they're done
ReplyDeleteApparently they aren't done. KTVU is no worse than any of the other local stations. This is how local television news looks these days.
DeletePeople now obtain news in different ways than they did 20 years ago, 10 years ago, and 5 years ago. There's been a drastic impact on local newspapers, television, and radio.
Whether we like it or not, that's the way things are and we are not going back.
I'm done with KTVU. I've been watching KTVU for 50+ years. The main problem is there is no decent local news anymore on any local station. Now what?
ReplyDeleteI've probably been getting my local TV news from KTVU for near 20 years now. Well, was. I generally don't watch TV news anymore. Not because I'm trying to be a hipster or a millenial, but because it has gotten so bad. It's not news and it's not entertaining.
DeleteActually I think KTVU is somewhat tame when it comes to happy talk. Yes, things are changing at that station because most viewers are comparing today's broadcasts to those when KTVU aired news in a straight forward format and received national critical acclaim and super high ratings, especially for the 10 o'clock News.
ReplyDeleteSadly this trend is happening in markets all over the country. Now if you really want to see a news program that is just about 100% happy talk, complete with giggles galore and laughter abound, live stream San Diego's KUSI telecasts during their several hours of morning news broadcasts. And it gets even "happier" during those same hours on weekends. However, their evening newscasts are much more serious and traditional with hardly any happy talk to speak of.
If you get lucky on the KUSI morning show you may catch some serious boob when Lisa Ramalard leans into the camera on her elbows.
DeletePure Joy!
@ 11:43 Yes, Lisa does tend to show off parts now known to a curious audience -- and I'm not really sure if she's aware of it but the viewers are :) I do like her -- if there's someone who can manage a happy talk format then Lisa is just right for it -- she's bright and bubbly but can be serious as well. And I am so, so happy that KUSI has brought in the absolutely incredible Carlos Amezcua to anchor with Lisa in the mornings. He worked in L.A. for years, first at the top rated KTLA Morning News and then went to KTTV. So glad he's here in San Diego. He is a natural at doing happy talk, the only anchor I could possibly put up there in stature with the great Van Amburg. I think he's the best and his work and ratings have always proved that (for you Bay Area folks who are interested in seeing both of them, live stream KUSI in the mornings).
DeleteAnd then at Fox 5 SD in the mornings, there's the incomparable Chrissy Russo doing weather. When my brothers and their buddies visited from the Bay Area I had FOX5 on and they were instantly excited and seemingly panting for Chrissy. She's extremely popular and has quite a following. In fact, my brothers upon returning to the Bay Area now live stream the FOX5 Morning News just to watch her.
@11:43 Wow, I didn't realize Carlos Amezcua was on the air at KUSI in San Diego, I'll have to stream it and watch. I remember watching him on KTLA in the morning when I was going to college in LA. I loved watching Carlos and I remember he was teamed with Giselle Fernandez and they made an incredible duo, along with Mark Kriski with weather and Sam Rubin on entertainment. What a great show and it seemed like EVERYONE watched it when I was there in SoCal during that time.
DeleteI'm so envious SD has him -- I think he would be fantastic up here in the Bay Area if that could ever happen. He'd most likely pull in monumental ratings if he was teamed up with just the right co-hosts -- the chemistry with other talent would have to be ideal. But thanks for the heads up, I'll go to the KUSI website tomorrow morning and watch him.
Ross Becker from KCBS 2 in LA is down there, too.
DeleteI was down there a few years ago and was very surprised to see Roger Grimsby (WABC-TV) anchoring the news and John Coleman (GMA, WLS-TV) doing the weather. Coleman especially still had the stuff. I guess these people retire to San Diego and get the itch to keep their little toe in the biz and go to work for KUSI.
DeleteThe new demo is any young idiot with a smartphone. Get the idiots to download your app...and track them for the rest of their lives.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness the bay area people are way too smart to fall for that ruse.
Unfortunately you're wrong. The NEW bay area people are too stupid to exit their screens and have any kind of constructive, critical, independent thinking.
Delete7:24 nailed it.
DeleteI wonder why so many folks thought Apple was doing some wonderful thing "standing up to" the FBI, when they still have all that personal and tracking info available to hem, and folks post so much of their personal stuff on facebook.
True. Apparently, the millennials would rather trust a corporation than the government. They must be good little Republican boys and girls. Apple would never sell their personal info to the highest bidder. No way!
DeleteIf you think about it for two seconds (difficult for you, I know) Apple won't because Apple doesn't *need* to. It would cost them more to do it than they'd get from it. Apple uses your info to hatch and market new products.
DeleteOthers, however, not as likely.
"It would cost them more to do it than they'd get from it"
DeleteIf they can make a buck from it, they'll do it. They're a corporation.
I honestly don't think Apple is any different than any other corporation. They'd like to make you think they are, but they're not.
DeleteI have an Apple phone, and you and I have no idea what they are doing, without our realizing it, with all the data they have on us.
DeleteI Use to watch Mornings on 2 pretty often. Just can't stomach it anymore. Turned it on this morning around 9:45 while getting ready for work. Just horrendous, unwatchable. Mibach, Gasia and Sal staring at their f***ing phones reading tweets about the now controversial outdoor toilet in SF next to Muni tracks - they were actually taking about urination and using the words "pee" and "peeing."
ReplyDeleteI understand that television broadcast media must adopt some of the social media shit just to try to appear relevant, but at the cost of destroying any remaining shred of integrity? Yes, I know some of you would say, "what's the local news have to do with integrity?" Well, stations like KTVU and KGO use to possess it. KTVU is now officially, in the toilet.
KTVU really is in the toilet.
Yes, that KTVU morning show at 9 is totally worthless and useless. Whoever is the producer of that hideous show should be banned from doing television forever!
DeleteAll three on-air talent seem to be fixated and staring at their laptops and smartphones rather than spending more time connecting to the viewers at home. They think social media will pull in the young demographic they are seeking.
But I have news for them -- that young demographic during that hour isn't really tuned in to KTVU at all -- they are on their way to work or at work, and if they're accessing media it would most likely be by way of Pandora, Spotify, iTunes, or live streaming NPR or something similar. They are way too smart and sophisticated and are most likely working at well-paying high-tech jobs in SF or the Valley, building architecture and systems for the next generation of media distribution. They are not interested in a lame TV show on KTVU.
However, I will tell you who's the most likely audience watching that show at 9am -- welfare recipients, folks sitting in a waiting room at a medical facility where it may be running on TV monitors, and the 85+ crowd at retirement facilities and nursing homes who just happen to roll their wheel chairs in to their facility dining room for breakfast and the show may be playing on a TV set. And none of those aforementioned groups is really going to get involved with social media -- in fact, most of them are oblivious to that. They're just waiting for that boring show to end so they can flip the channel at 10am to watch The Price is Right.
Wasn't Sal off today? Or did he come on for "The Nine" ?
DeleteYou mean 'literally' in the toilet
Delete"Liberally" in the toilet
DeleteNo sir..you don't mince words and the world is a better place because of it. I suppose the question is A: can it get worse and B: how much worse?? Nothing like watching a bunch of giggling bafoons delivering "news" and a few selfies each day. Now that I think about it.....it's almost as bad as that Cory and Joel dribble on 910. Its like eavesdroping on a couple of air headed cheerleaders shootimg the breeze about proper cosmetic application. "There, I said it" ala Mark Levin..
ReplyDeleteBring back Doug Moore and Maggie Scura.....those were the days!
ReplyDeleteYes Doug was a throwback I met him once at a history festval. He quit when Brent and Laura were on at noon.
DeleteWell, what are we (as customers) supposed to do? The only power we have is to not watch. After I've seen what Rosemary is wearing in the AM, I turn channels. So I'm doing my part I guess. Appealing for quality goes on deaf ears. You mention the 9pm TV20 news, to that I'll add the 7:30AM Sunday news on KPIX. Just the news (and some politics).
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't
A couple of days ago I was watching KTVU and KNTV side by side (I can watch up to three at the same time). KNTV was far better than the reduced KTVU on content and coverage. KTVU was too full of hearts and flowers social justice politically correct pirate talk but KNTV was not that bad.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I can't stand on KNTV is Laura's eyes did she have a failed face lift? I don't recall her looking like something from a cable paranormal show before. If the eyes have it I think she is going to zap her ex with a hex...
Christina Loren apparently thinks she is anchor material. Now she is not only doing the weather on RFD TV but anchoring an bour of its market report.
ReplyDeleteNo. ... the boss thinks she can anchor (or read the market report). They read the teleprompter and smile at the camera light.
DeleteThe world of broadcasting has changed. Advertisers want to sell Candy Crunch not Polident. If you are over 54, broadcasters can no longer monetize your eyes and ears as they have done in the past. So the quest to make your content and presentation more acceptable to those in the prized demo continues. However it is a quest that has never yielded great results. 45 years ago when Harry Reasoner was anchoring the Evening News on ABC with Howard K. Smith, they were constantly pushed to make the content more relevant to younger viewers and be faster paced. Then it was to incorporate more orange into set colors because some consultant figured that was the magic bullet. So this is just a phase. But and it is a big but, the old days are gone. KRON - dead and buried; KTVU - no longer relevant, to anyone. The others are holding on to whatever they can grab. On radio, it's the same thing. KGO of old, dead, buried and cremated. None of the old is coming back. None of it.
ReplyDeleteThere are lots of sources for news and some are pretty good. Watch as many as you can so that your view of the world is well rounded and not stuck in an era no longer existing, or one where the vision is warped by screaming blondes.
You explained everything. I will watch MeTV from now on. You are saying that because I am 69 broadcasters don't care about my age group. Thanks for telling me.
DeleteSo don't watch KTVU. No one ever said it's Masterpiece Theater. Why so much self-righteous indignation anyway? It's just another crappy television station. There are plenty more just like it.
ReplyDeleteDid you watch KTVU when it *wasn't* another crappy television station? When national reporters used to want to work there because it was so good?
DeleteSteve Paulson has always been happy....I watch the weather and then I'm done.
ReplyDelete
