Eric's a great guy. I had the pleasure of writing for him some time back. I think he could have emerged as a major personality for mornings if they'd let him do his thing and not try to micro-manage him into something he's not cut out for. But the clowns that run the TV biz aren't the brightest, and Trixie *is* the ND these days...
Ok, we all know Reggie Aqui is a wannabe stand-up comic not to be taken seriously with just about anything pertaining to hard news.
Now on to something more substantive: With all the recent dismal cutbacks going on at broadcast stations across the Bay Area, it is refreshing to see the growth and new state-of-the-art broadcast facility for NBC O&O, KNSD San Diego. When you go to the link and watch the video, longtime Bay Area viewers and folks in the business will recognize a couple of people: KNSD news anchor Mark Mullen (formerly of KRON and NBC News), and KNSD President and GM Richard Kelley (formerly VP of Sales at KNTV).
Good for San Diego. Remarkable to see that a metro area with less than half the population of what the Bay Area has is able to grow and improve media operations and facilities. I've seen Mark Mullen's anchoring on KNSD, good solid PROFESSIONAL top-notch work, along with all the other anchors and reporters at the station. KGO-TV and a few of the other Bay Area stations might want to take note of the quality work that KNSD is doing. It's all about value folks, and there's virtually no value in what Bay Area television has been serving up lately.
When Reggie is done on tv he should join Cory and Joel on 910am for a couple of hours each day. In between selfies and eyebrow manicure tips they could talk about hot hockey goalies and the wine of the month. I don't think it can get much worse....
Eric presided over a mess on channel 7's 11 o'clock newscast on 4-23. After nonstop yammering about the solar-powered plane and its impending landing at Moffett Field, they did a brief cut-in as the plane approached the runway, only to go back to more ZOMGPrinceisdead stories. Then, after a commercial, they showed footage from the landing 'moments ago', taken by some putz who was several rows deep among the photographers, and had almost no clear view of the aircraft, all while Eric waffled about how 'impressive' it is. Then, a story about celebrities paying tribute to Shakespeare had about 10 seconds of Patrick Stewart moving his lips to dead air. Then, we could hear every word that Tumie McTumabutt said. A disaster all around.
I sure do miss Eric. I won't even watch the Donny and Marie show.
