Enough is Enough; Moratorium on Albatross And Their 'Next Generation' of Bullshit; Ronnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn The Liar

I'M GOING TO, FOR ONCE, TAKE A CUE FROM SOME READERS: "Please, Rich, 'Enough is Enough!" --I AGREE.

The readers had had enough of the chatter about the albatross radio station in the area; the call-letter deficient operation that has engaged in quite a bit of fraud and tom-foolery --I'm not going to be a part of it, whether it was staged or not and I'm convinced that much of it was indeed plotted along.

Desperate operations go to extreme means to give life to a dying carcass. That's OK, pretty harmless but I'm not going to be sucked in for the ride. Not anymore at least.

On dying carcass radio this morning the hired Bronson, Missouri herd trotted out the circus clown on their platform so he could gush about his shitty ratings only he did not talk about his shitty ratings; he again (this happens every five years now) talked gibberish (God, he sounds so fucked up) about how the listeners went bonko over his planned (ha) migration to the right side of the dial and how some latest hired hand told him, "We made a mistake." At that point, my vomit bag was utilized.

I'm  GOING TO MOVE ON...Enough is enough. Moratorium

This cheesy operation has received enough publicity and its latest iteration will have none of my participation. They have ZERO cred and their latest sheep will have zero substance just enough to gather up the balls to state, "I have a major announcement" to make. Oh, how profoundly unique, just not here, leave it on Facebook, the home operation of major announcements.

For now, we are going to move on to other news and talk in the business while the Cloud Company uses its sheep media fortress to spread the bullshit and further fool the masses. They have an inherent interest in that process and God Bless 'em for procuring that model until the next format is introduced, roughly the spring of 2021 when the mattress man is 90 and telling his audience of 10, "THIS NEW FORMAT IS GONNA BE GREAT!"

Yeah, right, whatever.

As mattress man would say, "let us move on..." We have.

  2. I went ahaed, against my better judgement and listened to the "next generation" Of 810. For exactly 18 minutes of the ronnn show in fact. Same old $hit but I guess on the bright side,I was reminded why I stopped listening in 2011. So it was back to 910 for me as it has been for some time. Ronnn, you're tired.......go take a nap, have the suites from the cloud read green eggs and ham to you and just drift off..

  3. They are doing the best they can to NOT produce any radio content. Must be embarrassed and hoping the local news cycle turns over and they can go back to being ignored again. This coming from a listener who started in 1976 (Spann, Eason, Dunbar, etc) and ended, well, last week. Eff em.

  4. Laughing my ass off, knowing that if anyone's contract wa a consideration, it was Mark Kevin's. However, my gut feeling is this was an April Fools thing that went bad. The only thing those people can create is pure, unadulterated bullshit. Have a nice day!

    1. So are those 25 news people who were "April fired", are they coming back, according to your gut?

    2. No, we are all doing our best to find work elsewhere. I haven't spoken to a single person who has any desire to work for Cumulus ever again.

  5. From this morning's show: "I, I, I, Me, Me, Me. I'm thrilled. Emails, phone calls, response simply overwhelming. You the listeners. 40 years. I'm feeling phenomenal.." What gibberish, not one minute of relevant or useful information. How can people fall for this baloney?

  6. Warren Spann pitched well in 1976.

  7. .... annnd ronnn continues to yank his ownnn chainnn. If their is a god, please find a good home for the soul of 810. It has died a lonnng and horrendous death and while you're at it have someone prepair for the eventual demise of the cloud. How much worse dear readers can this get??

    1. The death spiral could get shorter for the cloud, 11:13. Delisting for their corporation is just days away now. They have to close at or above $1 (just a buck!) for ten consecutive days before that execution date (sometime in late May, I think). If they can't get it done (unlikely that they will) their stock moves off the big NASDAQ NMS board and onto the Pink Sheets, which is a fate that puts them near bankruptcy. Not many corporations emerge from the Pink Sheets.

As for what happens to 810 itself, god only knows.

    2. Watch the activity yourself, too. CMLS is the ticker symbol for Cumulus, and Yahoo Finance or just about any other major general website that has finance info can give you the current trading price. It's 42-cents as I write this. $1 is a long way off.

  8. I will only listen to this shit station when/if Pat Thurston is on.

  9. Just give Ronn his golden 3rd N and kick him out the door

  10. Ok, I notice that if I don't agree with you Rich, that you have not been posting my comments, but here goes. I listened to Ronn for awhile this morning including when his boss was on. I choose to believe that there was no issue about the contract ( I originally believed there was). I did not believe that the public outcry was the reason for bringing him back to the station. Now I think that it was just a dumb mistake. The Cumulus guy apologized up and down. Supposedly there is a new top dog that allows more local control of stations. Both Ronn and the boss handled some rough questions, especially Ronn when first came on alone. So I'm giving the freaking station another chance, however, if I didn't hear the term "next generation" again, it would be a good thing.

  12. The lemmings that live in the Bay Area will blindly follow anything spoonfed to them and will believe every load of crap thrown their way. The same lemmings that have given us Pelosi, Boxer, Feinstein, Brown and Obama all these years. Braindead idiots.

Thank god we have people like Rich that cut through the bullshit and provide us with the truth.

  13. The thing is this: it's the same old shit. Nothing significant has changed. Sure, less concentration on news. Sure, the Chipster is moved a slot down (to drive time), Copeland gets a regular gig, and A&G have taken the morning shift where they spent an entire hour sucking Ronnald's shrivelled dick. Still about a million commercials per hour destroying the flow, and the gutted news department is STILL wasting broadcast time on a product that everyone already gets from KCBS if they want it. It's still a big bag of poo.

  14. Someone called Ron and said he was lying. That he should give other people a chance and that if his ratings were any good he would never have been moved in the first place. To his credit he took the call but didn't address the point

  15. Ronn is such an embarrassment to himself & radio. Why doesn't he just retire? He is always out sick, sounds old & worn out & lives in some sort of fantasy land where he thinks he is special. He is so boring & when he is out we are stuck with that freak, Pat Thurston, what a dummy. And if you disagree with her she calls you a hater. Ronn knew that KSFO listeners would never put up with his stupidity and boredom and he would have been laughed off the show the first week. Does he really think anyone believes that tons of people wrote in in his favor? Come on, ha ha.

    1. Thank you, Karen. I thought I was the only one that didn't care for the women that fill in for him. Someone called in to Ronn's show this morning and echoed what you just wrote as well. Apparently, quite a few are tired of Pat and Christine and their farrrr left views.

    5. I once called Copeland and asked him if Germany was a rich or a poor country. He didn't know. Ugh.

See, Gene Burns could answer that in his sleep, so could Ronn, and Dr. Bill could reply in German.

  16. If the listeners had so much sway, KGO would have gone back to its original format in 2011. Ronn is delusional at best, or a complete liar at worst, when he states the outcry of listeners caused management to change their mind. It was hard to listen to this morning.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Totally agree. There was more outrage in 2011 tan now but nothing was done and the ratings were in freefall.

  17. Ronn is so not part of the next generation, even in the olde world of AM Radio.

How can Ronn say he didn't know what was happening at KGO? This new format just didn't happen overnight and if he knew about the format change in February like he said this morning, could he not figure that something serious was going to happen to the news department?

Oh, and Ronn. If you want any kind of positive lead in to your show from A & G, you might get with the current generation and learn who is A and who is G or they might forget which one you are.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Yeah, forgetting/confusing A&G's names was a tellingly dickish move by Ronn. He's not capable of seeing outside of his own mushy head.

    2. I heard that screw up by Ronn as well.
But then, only a self-centered clown refuses to know the names of his fellow on-air hosts.

  18. Same voices. New liners and music beds. No substantial change. Just juvenile talk all around. I guess the idea is to be 'relateable.' Copeland just came on. So sick of when he says 'This is Brian Copeland talking.' Eff these losers.

    1. Wow... Never heard Brian Copeland say that...but only because I hit the off button before he finishes saying "Copeland". I end his sentence, but can't be repeated here.

  19. I listened a few times here and there today. I'm sorry, but I don't see ANY difference in the "NEW" KGO 810. Aside from shuffling a few people around, it's exactly the same bullshit. I thought they were deep-sixing the news and traffic gambit. Nope. They still interrupt the flow of the shows with news and traffic breaks with the same people I thought were let go. And there are still far too many commercial breaks, once again disrupting the flow of the programming. Here's an idea I'll give KGO for free -- if you MUST run so many commercials, how about clumping them all together instead of forcing the hosts to cut off callers and guests to talk about Rich Uncles and MyPillows every 10 minutes? NEW, my ass. Same old shit.

    ReplyDelete
  20. The part of A&G I listened to was clearly just a transition show - it didn't include much of the regular goings on in A&G land - news and A&G producers etc. It was only broadcast live on KGO - the other stations in the syndication must have gotten repeats of earlier shows. If they are making this level of change to A&G going forward, I won't be listening anymore.
I agree there was way too much sucking up to Ronn...
Hopefully they will settle down and be less in awe of the big time opportunity...

  21. I listened to both Ronn and Copeland today and I noticed something copied from another market. The interaction between the hosts, traffic and news staff is a total rip from KFI Los Angeles. Well we will see if this sinks or swims. The format works in LA but I don't know if it will work in San Francisco.

    ReplyDelete
  22. KGO - once a great part of this great city - now it's gone - just like this great city.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yup, totally agreed. KGO and now KFI are pretty much dead and the City lost it's soul in the late 80's.

      Delete
    2. KFI is dead? You're a comedian. KFI is huge in LA. Huge. Total powerhouse. KGO, yes. Dead. KFI, not dead. Alive and well.

      Delete
    3. KFI was the #10 billing station in America last year, BUT the revenues generated by that Top 10 list of stations has been going down over time. The entire industry is sinking, revenue-wise.

      Delete
    4. In further defense of KFI, they do well in a market where FM stations have a clear advantage. KGO is in an AM market, San Francisco, where AM station competitors do very well. I might add that while KFI is #10 in revenues, they're probably in the Top 10 for overhead, too, so they really need that revenue.

  23. When I turned on the radio to 810, the new guy (forgot his name already) had a physician on to discuss STDs and the new AIDS drug. Before the doc came on, he was teasing the woman with him on the air about her STDs.

The new KGO? New insults to our intelligence.

  24. I blame Paul Harvey. Paul Harvey died and left 30 minutes of dead airtime (10 in the morning, 15 at noon, 5 min "Rest of the Story" at drive time). The children started playing around with the empty space and it all fell apart. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

  25. The new KGO, Hated it.

  26. Will someone tell me the cause of so much hatred towards Ronn Owens?
Does Rich have a personal vendetta? I can't imagine what Ronn did. I've been listening to him for over 40 years and he does have a big ego, but he doesn't inspire hatred or love in me.
Just surprised and curious. I found this blog while trying to find out what was happening the other day.

    1. Because those who know him truly recognize he cares about no one but Ronn Owens. That his entire persona is an act and that he's truly a selfish person. It doesn't help that he's not really that smart and that his show has stunk up the joint for a decade but he's still on the air.

  28. Not to beat a dead horse...Ronn called in today because it was "too hot." Poor guy hates to leave his cool home. Maybe it's his protest for losing 9-12. Or it could be his polyester shirts show a lot of sweat stains.

  31. I know its time to end the KGO stuff, but I would like to ask if there is a list of the people who were laid off. I think a column dedicated to their contributions would not be amiss; might help them find new jobs and would give all of us a chance to extend our sympathy. Clearly, Ron is doing okay.

  32. April 5, 8:02 p.m. I tried twice to respond to your question about Ronn and my posts never made it up. I'll try again. Ronn has been on the air for decades and has many loyal fans. We learned when he got married, had his two girls, learned about things as they grew up, learned about Ronn's medical problems and also enjoy his discussion of the daily issues. He is a good guy and many of us enjoy his show as a start to the day. Typical of social media, there are always people who choose to hate someone who many others appreciate.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Ronn can't make it to work on his second day on the next generation of KGO. Little Ronny should hang it up before he is laughed out of town once and for all. He is a total fool.

  34. These Next Generation shows suck!! I've tried to listen for the past couple of days and there is very little "news talk." All I hear are the giggly weather and traffic reporters chiming in all the time. It feels as if I'm listening in on the conversation at the next table at Starbucks. The trend seems to be having the news/weather/traffic reporter act as a sidekick to the show host. I've had to turn it off because I couldn't stand the inane comments and mindless giggling about every thing. It truly is awful!!
