HIT LIST:
Entire Morning News staff including editors, writers, producers, reporters; including: Jenifer Jones- Lee; Jon Bristow; Jason Middleton, Kim Mcallister, Rich Walcoff; Mike Amatori; Jared Miller; We'll update later..
UPDATE: Hearing from several sources that almost the entire Afternoon News were let go.
Sad to hear. Good luck to them.
ReplyDeleteCumulus doesn't know what they're doing. Haven't created a talent in years. They don't pay producers any money. They have no money.
ReplyDeleteAll they can do is rearrange the deck chairs on the titanic.
Inevitably, both KSFO and KGO will be worthless soon.
Armstrong and Getty will be moved to the FM dial at some point, I would imagine. Especially if they paid them any money.
Rich Lieberman must be delighted. He loves it when people get fired.
ReplyDeleteMaybe KFOG will return to "Beautiful Music" - I'd rather listen to that than Dave Matthews, Bonnie Raitt and Coldplay.
ReplyDeleteDon't we wish... :)
DeleteI agree - this is very sad to hear. I have been listening to KGO, hanging in there, mourning the loss of former talk show hosts and putting up with the dreck that remains. That being said, I enjoyed the news shows both in the morning and evening during my commute (sorry Rich!). They were good people, working hard in an unforgiving industry. I wish them all the best and I will miss them. Now what the hell am I going to listen to on my commute!!
ReplyDeleteWell, this should put the last nail in KGO's coffin. Ronn going to KSFO is absurd - the land of Savage and Limbaugh - - arrrgghhh! And no morning news crew - - guess it's back to KCBS full time.
ReplyDeleteWhat the forking fork fork?
ReplyDeleteWill the last person to leave KGO, please turn out the lights?
910... it's the old KGO, the gang is all there.
ReplyDeleteIs Dr. Bill there? I caught him a few times, but their signal is weak.
DeleteThis gives entire new definition to John Hamilton's show tagline, "...On the go.. with KGO..."
ReplyDeleteMaybe Rich Walcoff will now get a full time job as a church deacon.
ReplyDeleteLet's see how many sermons that guy can hammer out in one morning.
Oh no! Could it be possible that the pompous Walcoff winds up on KNBR? But then again, they'd have to widen the doors to allow his over-inflated ego into the studio. That costs money. Not gonna do it.
DeleteIs this an April fools joke?
DeleteRonn on the conservative station? No lib would be able to tolerate the other shows on KSFO and no regular listener to KSFO will tolerate listing to Ronn.
ReplyDeleteYup, exactly what I was thinking. His ratings were sinking the last few years; it will only get worse.
DeleteThat's why radios have buttons to change the channel.
DeletePhil--Not much left to change to. It's getting pretty sad.
DeleteNow let's hope the management of Cumulus does the same (replaces) KNBR's morning show.
ReplyDeleteThe most painful radio in America.
Ronn Owens at KSFO? He sure is going to feel out of place.
ReplyDeleteHow can this, possibly, fail? Cumulus' last effort to re-vamp KGO was so stunningly successful.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I wonder if they're planning to air the riveting programming that we're currently hearing, 24/7 ... until Monday. Perhaps the plan is to begin anew, with NO listeners.
I'm sure they are...it's a station flipping formula...
DeleteI listened to KGO for YEARS until the first 'cleansing'. Then I looked around and found Gil and Len Tillem on 910 and have switched permanently to 910 where I enjoy the afternoon programming with the craziness that ensues. That is where I will stay. RIP KGO
ReplyDeleteCumulus = Cluelessness
ReplyDeleteWait!!! There are ADVERTISERS that pay to be on KGO's crap?? I would like to see the advertisers' revenue.
ReplyDeleteI figured that the FBI would be preparing a case against Hillary Clinton before KGO ever went away...oh, wait.
DeleteEven Cory and Joel and the Doghouse on 910 am do not sound so bad now. I have even taken a liking to Coast to Coast!
ReplyDeleteyou are kidding right? Cory and Joel they few times I have tried to listened to them talk about nothing what so ever of importance. Same thing with the DOghouse, whose of us who use to be passionate listeners of Gene Burns, John Rothmann and yes even Ronn, can't listen to all that empty head crap these 2 shows put out. The pickings are getting slimmer and slimmer in talk radio, I will be listening to 91.1 more and more (that is a jazz station any case anyone is wondering).
DeleteKGO was the best before the mass firing of it's host in Dec a few years back. Have tried to listen to Ronn but there are more commercials than Ronn. I switched to 910 am after finding Gil Gross. I love to listen to those voices. My heart goes out to the news team! So many of them have been there for years.. The lack of loyalty saddens me.. As far as KGO, the station gets what it deserves & hoping the ratings continue downward. This was a great station taken into the lower ranks of radio. And I truly believe KGO firing Gene Burns, is what killed him.....
ReplyDeleteI'd rather listen to old airchecks of Al "Jazzbeaux" Collins doing weekend overnights on KGO: "...let's talk with Aunt Ruby in San Diego who has the world's largest ball of string in her garage. Hey Aunt Ruby, how's that ball of string coming along?...."
ReplyDeleteYeah, good luck with that! "Politics, talk & social media (or whatever they're calling it)/sounds like all Drexxx, all the time. Great idea, targeting the millenials, who wouldn't listen to an AM station on a date!
ReplyDeleteLet's see Ronn vs Giants baseball or Tolbert on KNBR. Yeah, that's going to work out just fine. I'd ask wtf someone is thinking, but clearly thinking isn't someone's strong suit.
ReplyDeleteWonder if the whiny squeaky voiced Byron Allen wannabe is gone.
ReplyDelete"Hey! I'm a black guy!", let's turn everything into a race issue.
Good riddance to that bootlicker.
They are not going to fire him and cut another 4 million dollar settlement check like they did to Barbieri.
ReplyDeleteDid Ralphie really score that big? Last I read he was phoning it in, showing up late, ill prepared. He was a windbag.
DeleteDid Ronnnnn really say he was excited to be going on to KSFO.
ReplyDeleteWhat a brownnoser!!
Does Ronn get to take his plaque saying it is the Ronn Owens studio...or will the idiots from Sacramento be working out of the Ronn Owens studio?
ReplyDeleteOh, I know who they'll have in place of Ronn? The terrible chef...and his secret Asian man....
I could care less about Ronn, Jason, Rich and Mike. I really feel bad for Jon Bristow, Jenifer Jones Lee and Kim Mcalliser who seem to be ready nice people. Maybe Jack Swanson can use them over at KCBS?
ReplyDeleteRich likely knows way more than me here. Is it possible that they will just play national shows and national news feeds, and so they save a TON on employee costs by not providing complete local coverage?
ReplyDeleteHaving been the victim of several corporate restructurings (layoffs) of my own, my heart goes out to the professional news team members at KGO, who will now have to hit the pavement in search of new employment.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for all you've done to try to hang in there and do professional work, while being managed and supervised by rank amateurs, who seem to know nothing more about radio, than how to press the radio power button on their car dashboards.
I hope that ALL of you go on to better and less stressful gigs, and at better pay levels. I'm not being sarcastic, when I say that; that was how every one of my own layoffs turned out, a few months afterward! As stressful as they were at the outset, the end product improved my life.
And special best wishes for the future to Mike Amatori. I've admired your clever wit and considerable talents from afar, for two or three decades. That includes some of your lesser known work at Altamont Raceway Park, several years back.
Reading and weeping... not just a blow to the Bay Area but to our entire society...Freedom of the Press is not happening with a few corporate giants squeezing out the local life of media...Claudia Lamb nailed it....Claudia described the death spiral downturn well http://soundwavestv.com/2016/03/31/kgo-and-the-death-of-radio/
