 MONDAY RECOVERY

I assume all of you made it out alive, well, and kicking. The city is still in recovery mode; take a look at the long faces at the Embarcadero Bart station. Too many beers of course and not enough chicken wings, which I always thought were overrated to begin win; I stuck to supreme nachos with enough Velveeta to impress Herb Caen.

*CBS did a pretty good job with the game, broadcast and all, but I'm an NBC guy. The peacock network always seems to bring forth a more crisper show with better camera angles, better cameras period and on the field plus, I like Al Michaels and Chris Collinsworth. Jim Nantz is OK and decent but his occasional "this is bigger than life" moments reap a certain phoniness --he's probably a Republican. Phil Simms is just OK too and he talks way too much. So does Collinsworth but he's smart enough and I'm interested. Simms is Joe Theismann without the smarminess.

*Pete Rozell, the late, former NFL commissioner, used to joke (correctly) that God was an NFL fan because "it never rains on Super Bowl Sunday." Well, Rozell was right. Yeah, it rained in Miami a few years back but that's it.

It's been raining like hell here for the past month and suddenly, February feels like Palm Springs, to hell with El Nino. CBS and NFL execs, while taking a break from cocktails and hookers, had to be elated --so too, the city of Santa Clara.

*Contrary to popular opinion not everyone was thrilled with SB50. Boulevard restaurant on the Embarcadero was a virtual ghost town for most of the week but I'm never going to feel sorry for Nancy Oakes and her overrated, over-priced pork chops. Pass the shot of 1800.

*ABC News is really interested in KTVU weather guy, Steve Paulson, to the point where an offer will soon be on the table. Then again, Paulson, a Bay Area guy, seems comfortable in Oakland and better yet, doesn't talk like a pirate.

*The latest on the South Bay TV couple --he's being charged with a Domestic Violence hit (in court, Feb. 22) and she's wanting to nail him to the poor farm. His bank and checking accounts were raided. In the meantime, she was so determined to keep her power and position at the station to the point where she was having an affair with a married man who worked as the Interactive Media mgr and is now, too, a prominent radio guy for a SF radio station.

  2. Nice to see KTVU on-air staff back to doing their actual jobs for once & no more of that football promotion horseshit. Goodell Oral Diahrrea say what??

  3. Jim Nantz not a Republican.

Al Michaels a long time Republican donor.

    1. Who cares? It's not like he's a Nazi. How can we Democrats complain about non-cooperation from Republicans with comments like this? They started it won't wash. Collingsworth is the best analyst and Michaels doesn't exude the holy sanctity of a sporting event like Nantz.

    2. Nantz might not be a Republican but he donates money to GOP candidates. In 1999 it was to George W Bush. In 2004 and 2005 it was to the Republican National Committee.
Al Michaels donated to re-elect Bush/Cheney in '04.

  4. Phil Simms is horrible. CBS and the announcing seemed to forget to cover the last 30 sends of the game.

    1. It could have been worse, it could have been Fox and Joe Buck!

  5. I like Phil Simms. He's almost always correct in predicting the kind of play the next one will be when the average person would be up in the air about it (like me, for example). He's very smart from a football perspective. He does talk a lot, though. But TV is a communications medium.

For some reason that really made me laugh. :-)

  7. Rained like hell?? Really? We had some decent rain, but once again, the Bay Area news media shows flooding...not from so much rain, but due to the dry soil not used to moisture, and the fact that many cities have not cleanedout the gutter and sewage, so it looks like a big flood.

I hope Steve goes to KGO, and sticks it to KTVU! FOX doesn't deserve him.

  8. It might be nice for babbling Paulson to go to ABC - I think he would make a good match with Leyla Gullen isn't she now at an ABC Station in Mozambique? Make Room for Daddy!

I don't know which clueless weather person Rabbit Berta or babbling Paulson came up with the stooped weather tweets from Bruno in Brentwood or Heather in Healdsburg but I don't give a shit about their thermometer with bird shit on it. I think the problem with both of them is neither is a AMS Certified Meteorologist.

I'd like to see both of them gone along with the super bawl committee chair who wants to invade SF again in 5 or 6 years (let them go to San Jose next time).

    1. Know your facts before being a hater. Management insists he and other weather talent use tweets from Heather in Healdsburg. Paulson is also #2 at KTVU and many times, in the Bay Area on active daily Social Media interactions. Which, by the way, is a direct mandate from management. So Bruno in Brentwood, now you know!

  9. Nantz is a good announcer, but some of his frequently used (phony) lines have been the subject of much derision. "Heeello friends..." He is the CBS Sports' version of Brian Hackney.

  10. What's the next event that the local media will wrap themselves around? Let me guess: Roberta Gonzales gets into a dragon costume for the Chinese New Year Parade. At least she won't need to wear the dragon head.

  11. Married people give marriage a bad name. If they are so power hungry they have to use sex in their arsenal, why don't they just stay single. Disgusting little tramp. She has no grounds for a claim to his money if she's that kind of slut. Nice example to set for three kids.

  12. I wonder how many football viewers - mainstream and extreme - prefer Tirico over Nantz, Michaels, and Buck (critics of the laughter always great for a good laugh). BTW, it apparently rained briefly way back in 1970 at NOLA for SB IV (KC d Minny)

    1. I remember that there was a tornado concern during SB IV, but fortunately the weather was just gloomy (like the Vikings' day in general). 5 years later, it damp, cold, and windy for the last Super Bowl at the old Tulane Stadium/Sugar Bowl. They were supposed to play SB IX in the brand new Superdome, but it wasn't ready. And again, the Vikes weren't ready during the game!

  13. Whenever the crew for the Super Bowl was none other than John Madden, and Pat Summerall...I knew we had the "Gold Standard" for calling the Super Bowl! Man, I miss those two calling games on TV.

  14. I heard Angela Alioto doing a commercial for her law practice this morning on KNBR. This is pretty strange when you consider that Angela was Ralph Barbieri's attorney when he sued KNBR and Cumulus for wrongful termination.

  15. Please! Someone needs to turn Dave Clark's mic off while others are reporting!

You hear Pam, or Gasia, and Dave's "Yeah" interruption.

Fix that, and his odd enunciations, and all will be well.

Instead of the "Dave Clark Five" we have the "Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs"

    1. I noticed that years ago, and it's annoying as hell. Why can't the producers sit him down and tell him to stop it.It's a bad habit he needs to break.

  16. As a tax payer you better hope and pray that a Republican wins in 2016 or we are all in for a rough future if there is one. Obama is doing his best to make the United States of America a third world country. As Margaret Thatcher said, "The problem with Socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money". Please think about it when you next VOTE.

    1. So, let me get this straight. Bush increased the debt 101% over Clinton, Obama 50% over Bush, less than half of the Republican. Sweden, with 60% income tax has a 40% debt over GDP with free healthcare, free college and pensions. What am I missing?
