KPIX 'Kills' in Bay Area Super Bowl Coverage; CBS-SF O and O Delivers Record Number; Station Staff Elated; Boffo 5,6 and 11 PM

THIS IS NOT ENTIRELY SHOCKING NEWS BUT KPIX HAD A RECORD-SETTING WEEK AS ITS CBS TV STATION/ HOST STATUS FOR SUPERBOWL 50 BAY AREA DELIVERED RECORD NUMBERS...

*February Sweeps add to solid numbers

*6PM --doubled its previous numbers from 2/15-- Firm #1 over KGO, KTVU, and KNTV

*5PM --A total "kill" as a news staffer put it.

*11 PM: Dominant numbers slaughter KGO and KNTV

*Game Day/Feb. 7: This goes without saying but KPIX ruled the day from about 11 AM until the end of the game, but contrary to national numbers (when many viewers skipped the game out of disinterest) here, locally, KPIX commanded the Bay Area night right to the end of its post-game summary. The numbers, even with SB assistance, are astounding. Maybe the highest numbers in PIX/CBS-SF history.

We don't have the entire breakdown --(we'll know more specifics soon enough); suffice to say, PIX did more than they had to do and quite unexpectedly, did a whole lot better.

Bruno Cohen (GM) and Dan Rosenheim (ND/VP) are chugging a lot of champagne.

  1. Don't really know why they're so excited. It's not like they're going to duplicate it and you can't really leverage it, so BFD.

  2. Well I guess I'm on a different page as a non football fan but I just could not take anymore Super Bowl on KPIX and stopped watching their "news" all together...

I doubt I will go back but this has more to do with their poor talent especially in the early AM and their lack of news coverage. I'm also watching a lot less of KTVU if Pam Cook left for any reason I'd stop watching them all together too.

  3. "I'm also watching a lot less of KTVU if Pam Cook left for any reason I'd stop watching them all together too." I laughed out loud at this one.

  4. And their snoozefest of a morning show? Where are the numbers for that?

  5. Come on people- all this carping about this anchor or that, this AM show or that, it's all BS. Mostly, having the TV on serves as white noise, especially in the AM. You people and your incessant hand wringing. Get a grip.

  6. It's not like KPIX can go back and charge advertisers more because of this one-time local bump. I'm sure this happens when CBS airs any major sports event. The Super Bowl is special, but the NCAA tourney and March Madness are also coming up and I'm sure they'll see the same, if slighter rise.

  7. Like another poster said, I turned away from KPIX due to the incessant SB hype. When I watch the news, I want the news, not some BS story about the stadium parking configuration or how fabulous the turf is going to be. I found other news outlets that I think I'll stay with. See ya KPIX.

  8. KPIX definitely sold out for the Super Bowl and only cared about making CBS execs happy.
