Thanks for the fond memories, Rich...those were the best days in SF Bay Area news & we'll never see them again. I had the (mis)fortune of meeting Pete Giddings when he started work in Reno, & God, what a total complete fuckeng asshole. Take that marker he likes to flip in his hand & shove it up his ass. Fucken bunghole.
I have to agree with 7:35. Use of such language takes away from the discussion. For years Rich has allowed it and I would hope he might start establishing some policy of etiquette or at least moderate the posts. It should be just like the intelligent talk we and he wants to hear on the on radio. Like any station, I assume he wants this blog grow even further in readership, quality, and revenue/donations. If he does not start improving the quality of discussion, the quality of readers will drop and he/we will lose this blog.
While I agree with your sentiment 10:11, calling someone a mental midget undercuts your argument and credibility. Insults have no place in intelligent discussion. I do not mean to single you out, but I think it is high time, as you may agree, for a return to to civil intelligent discussion without insults or foul language. I am starting here.
I didn't forget. From an archived 1996 website: http://web.archive.org/web/20000417171005/http://www.moderntv.com/modtvweb/media/van2.htm Now, if you can dig up the original KPIX Noon News open, with Wanda Ramey & John Weston, that will be truly transportive... every minute every hour on the very same day...

ReplyDeleteOh hush! That's my Nintendo, the hell with you.
ReplyDeleteThis came during the days of "Happy Talk" in the 1970s. Let's see if someone compares this to the pirate talk...
ReplyDeleteI'm growing tired of the first response to every post being gratuitously laden with 4-letter words.
ReplyDeleteYes, I've heard these words before ... even used them. But, this is obviously an exercise, in and of itself.
It's childish, and of no value.

DeleteThank you 7:35am Could not have said it any better. Anonymous vulgarity use comes from guys that are mental midgets.

DeleteRich, where do you find this stuff anyway? Is there a place on the internet where you can see it? Classic!

ReplyDeleteWho was the man in black? Recognize him from westerns, but I don't know the name.
ReplyDeleterhanks for memories -and real journalism. When did we go wrong? Anburg still around?
ReplyDeleteI remember a "happy talk" parody in the 70s with Van Ham, Jerry Jester, Pete Giddy, and John O'Smily- it's been stuck in my brain for 40+ years...
