What do you think of the claim that the video and audio are too "extremely graphic" and should not be aired? Watching both, do you see any bullet holes, anyone lying on the ground, any gore, a single drop of blood? Does the old media think that by sanctimoniously censoring images which are certainly startling and tragic, but in fact not "extremely graphic", that news consumers will not seek out the information through new media?
ReplyDeleteThere are insane individuals who commit crimes for which they should pay. No one else should have to suffer by having rights taken away. Only the perpetrator should be made to suffer.
ReplyDeleteChristine, with such insightful ruminations & commentary as yours, you should consider appearing on Fox News or MSNBC as a commentator on such horrific events as what transpired this morning. Then, like taking a really big dump after eating at Outback Steakhouse, we forget about you the next day. Nnngghh!!!!
ReplyDeleteShe can give out cookies to the hosts
DeleteIf it were two dogs suddenly being shot on live TV, wailing and yelping in their death throes, would Christine be as similarly nonplussed?
ReplyDeleteDid you see anyone actually hit by a bullet in that video? Where were they hit?
DeleteA couple years ago at the station I work at, we repeated ad nauseam a father falling to his death at a baseball game when he tried to catch a ball thrown to him by a player. His son was to this right. I protested to the morning EP and was ignored. I protested to the morning anchor, who responded, people need to see what we are talking about. When I came in the next morning, station management forbid the use of the video portion showing the complete fall. Looks like Christine is one of those people that needs to see the last seconds of someone's life, just because it is available.
ReplyDeleteSo you prefer to see the body falling, edited just before the point of impact. I agree with you. However, what you are missing is that the video we are discussing doesn't show blood, gore, bullet wounds, bodies on the ground writhing, does it? I've been a news director. I've made those decisions many times. I wouldn't show the the dad making fatal impact with the ground over a stupid ball. I wouldn't show the victims of this shooting bleeding out on the ground, or the actual bullet wounds either. That's not what the video shows, at all. The story is about two news folks shot live on morning t.v. by a disgruntled former colleague. Your reasoning powers, which have you assuming that I enjoy watching the "last seconds of someone's life" are absurd. And just so you know, it's "ad nauseum",only one "a".
DeleteAmazing that Christine - with egg all over her face from yesterday - is still lecturing to the world about the shooting.
DeleteNormal people would be embarrassed to be so wrong.
I think readers of this blog are doing Christine a great disservice. I know when I'm slightly confused on a topic and want to know what to think or do, I just read Christine's posts and think or do the opposite. Her posts have been very helpful that way.
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame Christine didn't have kids. She would have made a wonderful mother in law.
ReplyDeleteNoooo, I would show the player throwing him ball as he leaned over. That is enough. And, the station stopped showing it, so I'm right and you're wrong.
