--If I were the Giants, excuse me, yes, I would be a little annoyed if one of my more notable broadcasters--in this case, Dave Flemming, would be off, "on assignment", during the front stretch of a pennant race, doing games for ESPN and the like.
Just me.
--Speaking of sports and the Giants, the 49ers will play a meaningless exhibition NFL game tonight --while the Giants will play a meaningful road game in Pittsburgh --right at 5 PM PT...and guess what? The 49ers will draw at least 4 times the audience. Simply stated: The NFL is vastly more popular than Major League Baseball. Period. End of story.
--Cannot stand Christine Craft the person--but I do like Christine Craft the talk-show host unless she's talking about Israel in which Craft is the most un-objective, biased and Israel basher this side of Pat Buchannan . Birds of a feather...
--If Chip Franklin was more newsy-talkie, I'd be more inclined to listen to him on KGO but Chip has been hog-tied to discuss trendy BS "topics" taken out of USA Today and the latest Drudge headline.
--I'm already sick and tired of hearing about El Nino.
--KTVU is obviously trying desperately to insert weather lady Rosemary Orozco into a more primetime spot but shifting her all over the various time slots is counterproductive --make up your mind, FOX2.
--I said Brian Copeland is OK and decent enough --as a talk-show host, on race and race relations. I never listen to him when he's doing an interview, say, on politics. Switch the dial. And like other talk hosts, Copeland's incessant, repetitious --"EIGHT-Zero-Eight Zero-Eight -Zero" babble is too much to take. He does it every five minutes.
--Hey, KQED: Bring back "Newsroom." I dare you.
--If the Chronicle continues to LOSE
--Rumor mill: CBS Radio is about to unleash a BIG round of layoffs--which will only further fuel the idea of them being swallowed up by Cumulus. I can't even begin to fathom.
--Yeah, Brian Hackney looked weird Saturday night.

Giants announcers fulfilling contractual obligations other than KNBR or Comcast have occurred for at least 20 years. Remember Jon Miller would leave to call ESPN games too, when he was on the Orioles broadcasting team and when he joined the Giants. Same goes for the past relationships with Joe Morgan and Tim McCarver. Heck maybe it has been going on for 30+ years.
ReplyDeleteBut Miller was a known and respected name when the Giants brought him here, so they had to accept his ESPN commitment. Fleming still is basically unknown outside of this market.
DeleteIn response to yesterday's thread on Giants announcers, I also tire of listening to Miller and Fleming kidding each other so heavily during their broadcasts that they often miss calling plays as they happen; but when Fleming is 'on assignment' Miller's game-calling skills are still as sharp and enjoyable to listen to as ever.
Mmmm...Nig-Ba? SNEH!!!
DeleteRich, gotta ask, which of Pat Buchanan's positions on Israel do you dislike?
ReplyDeleteAccording to Wikipedia
1) He favors "a strong, independent state of Israel
2) In Buchanan's opinion, the Israeli people are America’s friends and have a right to peace and secure borders. We should help them secure these rights.
3) He believes that the United States has a "moral commitment" to recognize Israel's right to defend itself.
Great that you cherry-pick those viewpoints --you conveniently IGNORE his numerous quotes about the Israel's "Amen" corner in Congress and the "Jewish" lobby ...Buchannan can hate Israel all he wants--so too, Christine---but their frequent anti-Semitic rhetoric and code words do not fool anyone with half a brain.
DeleteSo? Even if he is against the Jewish lobby he's still for peace and security in Israel – much like the goals of the Jewish lobby.
DeleteYou sure your dislike for Mr Buchanan isn't based on his conservative Republicanism?
Golly Gee, Rich...you've never even met me. How would you know "Christine Craft, the person"?
ReplyDeleteOh, dear, I have a hunch.
DeleteRich, I believe you got your figures mixed up on the Chronicle's losses. I worked for them in production for over 20 years till 2009 and the word was they were losing about 1 million a week, which would mean 52 million a year. 52 mill a week would be 2.6 billion a year. Way too high. Total revenue was 500 million tops I heard.
ReplyDeleteYou are CORRECT sir--mangled the numbers and now edited the right figures--thanks.
DeleteChristine, if I had you live in Gaza for a month in the shell of an apartment building with your brethren that you profess to love so much, I'll bet you'd change your tune real quick.
DeleteChristine Craft is an embarrassment in whatever form (radio, lawyer, woman, etc.) that she takes. She practices WC law, the sewer (no one needs a WC lawyer unless their claim is denied...benefits are based on state issued schedules) the legal field. I'm an animal rights guy, but she is so over-the-top, it turns me off. On Israel, she's a fool, the best balance can be achieved is the Middle East by our arming Israel to the max. I don't believe she believes her own BS, I think she's just trying to play the part of an age 60+ hipster
ReplyDeleteWe have armed Israel "to the teeth" for decades. They have a more sophisticated nuclear weapons arsenal than does the US. We actually borrow money from China (and use tax dollars to pay for the interest)to pay for our gifts to Israel. Did you know that? The bombs that kill so many innocents in Gaza are marked "made in the USA",and create many more problems for the US in that sector of the world and beyond.
Delete. I think that if you ever have a workplace injury you must try to navigate the California worker's compensation system by yourself. Your lack of understanding of the complexities of same, and your belief that it's a snap with the state determining benefits based on a chart are both laughable. Many of these cases take a decade or more to secure a final disposition. There can be dozens of hearings, filings, depositions, etc before a case settles, precisely because it so complex and adversarial. Did you think work comp lawyers just accepted some dubious chart on the value of a missing limb for example? I also do disability law, estate work and writs of habeas corpus in federal court. Is that evil too?
If you are "turned off" by helping abused animals and advocating for compassionate treatment of same, you are no "animal rights guy". The most recent issue that captured the world's imagination was the slaughter of Cecil. I didn't call for the archer/dentist to be killed, arrested, extradited or any such thing. I said that he would always feel, for the rest of his life, that he was being stalked, whether he was or wasn't. Was that too over the top for little animal lover, you?
Laughable also is the assertion that disliking Netanyahu makes one an "anti-semite". If you hate Palestinians, then you are an anti-semite? Palestinians are just as much semitic peoples as Israelis.
Finally, I never say anything on the radio that I don't believe. I've never disguised my age and experience. I've never been a "hipster", or wanted to be. Take your "embarrassment" and shove it.
"....killed innocents in Gaza." --Christine ALWAYS ignores the fact that Hamas, the terrorist group that runs Gaza" PURPOSELY places "innocent" people--including children and elderly in civilian targeted areas knowing full well the Israelis will attack after innocent Israelis --including women, children, and the like get BOMBARDED by missiles in Southern Israel every day. But again, Christine NEVER brings this up--I'm not fooled nor surprised anymore and neither are others.
DeleteThe Middle East will be a problem for the world no matter what happens between Israel and the Palestinians. How about stating your POSITIONS FOR PEACE. Or do we go on like this for a few more decades until - - - well, I think we all know where this is headed.
Delete10:58 seems like a very angry person. Disagree if you want 10:58 but tell me why you use such ugly language (shove it)?
And I am curious - - what are both of your positions for Peace in the ME? Perhaps you both agree. Please take a moment. And please - none of this "shove it" stuff. Very undignified! Or are we too far off subject here? Your answers will reflect your personal bias or lack thereof.
My My Christine, aren't we sensitive!!
DeleteChristine, the so called "Innocents" in Gaza would be alive if their leadership Hamas hadn't initiated bombing Israel.
Delete"She practices WC law, the sewer "
DeleteI was told something similar by an attorney friend. She said that his is what you're destined for if you graduate from Golden Gate University, University of La Verne, or some other similar school.
So an attorney friend of yours said that employment law, including worker's compensation is only for those who graduate from La Verne law school? I find it odd that you would be asking her(the mythical she) about anything involving me. I've never heard of that school that your friend spoke of. Given my personal history, employment law was a natural specialty. Should I feel ashamed that I helped numerous, severely injured and disabled workers as their advocate? I went to UC from my undergrad degree, and McGeorge UOP for law school as a second career. McGeorge is best known perhaps for the continuing efforts of our most famous professor, the most important jurist in the United States, Anthony Kennedy. You should really learn about who he is before bashing something you know nothing about. Guess what he's doing this summer as in many past summers? He's teaching at our summer Salzburg program.in Austria. Before that, he taught Constitutional Law at McGeorge for a long time. There is no one similar. I doubt very seriously you could get into McGeorge, must less survive the experience.
DeleteI'm sorry you couldn't do any better than employment law. That's really sad. My heart goes out to you.
DeleteWow! Was anybody listen to KGO this morning? Holy crap they had the male newsreader on at around 7:30 (Sports guys got fired?).
ReplyDeleteHe said, I'm paraphrasing
" The A's lost 5-4 to the 'Bay-Rays'"
and then he said:
"The Giants also lost a close game to the Pirates in Pittsburgh, they lost by one point"
I'm not making this up, not exaggerating, did anyone else hear this?
I don't believe anyone else was scheduled to listen to KGO this morning.
DeleteCome have a cookie, children.
ReplyDeleteRosemeary Orozco. Hot!
ReplyDeleteIf you're going to say you don't like someone as a person, as opposed to on the radio, you really should explain why.
ReplyDeleteChip on KGO is unlistenable if that's a word.
Boy newscaster, I think Sam Brock, early Friday morning on NBC pronounced Mobile, Alabama "Mo-Byle". When that kind of thing happens more and more, I suddenly realize I can't believe anything else they say either. Happens a lot on KGO radio too.
Hard to imagine that the Giants are irked by contractual obligations that they've been 100% aware of PRIOR to the season.
ReplyDeleteFor many years Miller was off for Sunday ESPN broadcasts. Dave Flemming's other obligations are a matter of record for anyone who follows sports. No surprise to anyone.
Since I don't think much of Flemming as an announcer, I wouldn't care if he went on permanent "assignment".
ReplyDeleteJeez, Lieberman seems traumatized by Giants broadcasters "going on assignment."
ReplyDeleteMy hunch is that Flemming will leave the Giants in the next 4-8 years. The rest of their (English Speaking) announcing team will probably retire within that time frame, too.
ReplyDeleteCraft is a legend in her own mind; but I do agree with her positions concerning the Israeli, Palestinian conflict. Broken clock being right twice a day comes to mind.
ReplyDeleteUnfamiliar with her until I started reading this blog; would not listen to her on radio, even if I was paid.
I noticed the weird look of Brian Hackney, too. He looked so spooky!!!
ReplyDeleteThe Cron been losing 52 Million a year for many years.
ReplyDeleteI will take all the Rosemary I can get. Definitely a MILF.
ReplyDeleteFlemm admitted on the TK Show that he announces only three innings per game and to expand his experience he takes on these extra assignments.
ReplyDeleteQuestion....When the Oakland Raiders are playing football at the same time as the Oakland A's are playing Baseball, do the Raiders outdraw the A's?!....Just wondering???
ReplyDeletecan't stand Fleming Miller and Marty is starting to get old
ReplyDeleteRosemary Orozco is boring 24 hours a day. What shift do you put boring on? She needs to develop her on-air personality if she's going to be relevant. Watching her is like watching paint dry.
ReplyDeleteRich is now talking about hosts who don't have jobs: Craft and Copeland. They couldn't get jobs during the heyday of KGO and now the ownership is attempting to go younger. Do you really think in light of the hirings of Drex etc they're going to hire these types?
ReplyDeleteWith all due respect to your accuracy, Brian has a job, several of them, in fact. He performs very successful one-man shows. He has a regular show on KGO and has for the longest time. I do fill-in and am delighted to do so. I have another occupation as well, in a different city. Your mantra about youth is just silly. Firstly, do the terminally "young" listen to AM radio? Are there any "young" talk hosts in the entire country? Did you ever think that one doesn't get really interesting until they've had lots of experience and know what they're talking about?
DeleteYou are so right, most hosts these days are boring, I always look forward to your show, as well as Brian, Pat's and Ronn's. I like Chip Franklin as well, but don't have much of a chance to hear him, since he is on in the middle of the day. This idea that one is too old or too young is just silly, people and hosts of all ages can be interesting and worth listening to.
DeleteIf the Giants did not want Flemming to do other games/events, don't but it in his contract. Fairly simple. Besides, he is #4 on the team
ReplyDeleteThe NFL will always have more people watching than baseball. It is a once a week sport. Forgotten in 20 minutes until 7 days later. It draws a vast audience, some hard-core fans, but many, many more borderline "fans".Yes, the numbers probably had more TV's tuned to the completely unimportant pre-season football game. Baseball is a process, day after day, and is followed by equally hard-core fans as football. Unless the team goes to the playoffs it won't pick up that once a week fan.
ReplyDeleteRich you say that you don't listen to Brian when he does political interviews, and you don't like his oft repeated KGO phone number. Brian often has Mark Curtis on when analyzing politics, and I think Mark is pretty good in his analysis of the candidates and the politic landscape in general, Brian does a good interview, and then he take calls. just the fact that he takes calls put him way above Joel and Corey, Drex and others. As for the repeating of the number is that his call or the program directors? As for political commentators I also like Gary Ditrich, he is on with Armstrong and Getty and I have heard him on Ronn's show as well.
ReplyDeleteIt's cowardly of you to bring up "Israel bashing", then when someone (me) questions you on it, specifically gov't policies of Israel, you don't post the comments. Shows what kind of spineless person you really are...
ReplyDeleteI've got something to insert for Rosemary Orozco....it's going to be HOT, HOT, HOT!
ReplyDeleteFor you at least; for her... not so much.
Deleterich...have you considered banning Christine
ReplyDelete..you did Stan and he is only an ass, Christine a self important and boring ass.
poor, pathetic anon at 4pm...if you are so bored to read my comments...can't you train yourself to see my name(it isn't anon) and just skip it? Have you no self-control?
ReplyDeleteJumping in late here, but... Dave Flemming can go on permanent assignment. For one, he ain't all that great. Sure, he's a good play-by-play announcer but nothing special. Secondly, he comes off as arrogant, much like a lot of the Giants brass (especially Larry) do. He certainly isn't good enough to put the Giants 2'nd for other gigs. Miller did the ESPN games but that was ok because he was already doing them when he started with the Giants and secondly he is a terrific broadcaster who grew up watching the team. Let Flem go, tired act.
