415 Media Exclusive: KGO-TV Hires 'San Diego Hottest News Girl' To Become Weekend Anchor; Katie Marzullo Moving Back To Weekdays

She won the award as San Diego's 2014 "Hottest News Girls" and now Natasha Zouves is headed north to become KGO-TV's weekend news anchor, replacing Katie Mazullo.

Marzullo will return to weekday reporting duties and do occasional anchoring.

Zouves, being San Diego's hottest news girl automatically qualifies her to be, I'm sure, a strong-willed and tenacious TV journalist. She starts her gig at KGO the first week of September.

"I could not be more excited to be coming home--I'm thrilled," the bright-eyed beauty told me.

This could be interesting.

OK, on the serious side, KGO's GM, Bill Burton, is said to have been behind this hire as KGO wants an "LA look" and a female reader who is heavy on Social Media.

We'll talk about the mood in the KGO newsroom involving this hire--it's not exactly making people whistle while they work.

  1. She has been the traffic reporter for KGTV for about 2 years. Very little field experience and even less anchoring. She is somewhat likable but you can tell she practices her anchor faces....it can be a bit forced and scripted.
Pretty sure KGO is waayyyyyy out of her league

Too young to be really credible .
The KGO staff will eat her up and spit her out.

    1. She's the hottest? Did anyone else even enter? I think all that Sun is causing a plethora of cataracts in the San Diego area.

    2. I agree. The San Diego market in general leaves a lot to be desired. But..you can't blame anyone for wanting to leave for greener pastures... aka Thee Bay Area. San Diego, itself, leaves a lot to be desired.

  3. that is PATHETIC ! This market likes solid talent with bay area history. I like KGO but I will NOT watch that!

  4. Her social media presence is one way in San Diego. It's not like she engages in any debate or conversation. it's all just one way postings.

  5. You guys must not watch, her main job is at their live desk doing breaking news. From what I've seen she also mmjs her own stuff, it's all over her fbook. No wonder KGO wants someone social savvy. SD loves her! Smart move by KGO.

    1. Her main job is traffic, and she has done maybe 2 packages in 2 years.
Pretty sure she is also just part-time working only 5 hours per morning. She is NOT in the regular reporter rotation.

Anchored the morning weekend show a few times...and worked Christmas anchoring.

      She is very young.

But heck, she is pleasant to watch and not very annoying like the others at that station (KGTV) but she has zero street cred.

  6. Lame. Tryng to force superficial SoCal TV standards on the Bay Area? How stupid is KGO?

    1. Sorry but the BA "standards" are the same as anywhere else. Where you been the last 10 years?

      Delete
    2. No they aren't. With the exception of one station and one newscast in the morning with one particular anchor...nothing in Bay Area TV approaches the over the top, superficial, gratuitously brazen world of LA TV News.

    3. Katie is also from Socal.

    4. Except we are talking about a San Diego station.

  7. If you recall, Ama Daetz started on weekends and she was not from this area either -- but she seemed to catch on. Katie Marzullo is just not for the anchor desk -- they gave her a chance but it didn't work -- she is much better in the field as a reporter.

  8. Ama is still overrated. She doesn't show it on the air thanks to her poise which is why she's been able to survive. She's still a lightweight though...easily the weakest of the 6pm anchors...and yes...that list would include VDLC. There's no depth there. Style over substance.

So this Natasha person looks like Ama: The Sequel. Whether she has the poise Daetz has to cover over her deficiencies will reveal itself soon enough.

    1. Don't get me wrong - I still don't really care for Ama - she is a lightweight compared to others - but she does seem to hold her own. I would imagine if Dan Ashley didn't want to work with her, he'd have some say in the matter considering his seniority and general gravitas with Bay Area viewers.

  10. You old farts can't accept TV news is dying and social media is the new media attracting the young demographic. You people need to let go of the past and let media evolve. Look what happened to radio, newspapers, magazines, and now television. 10-20 years down the road, nobody is going to give a rat's ass on who hires who in news business. It's all about making connections to the audience, and that's what social media is doing.

    1. If social media is so great how come it doesn't make any money?

    2. Facebook reported $3.54 billion in first-quarter revenues, an increase of 42 percent over the same period last year, and the tech giant's ad revenue was up 46 percent, reaching $3.32 billion. Mobile accounted for 73 percent of its ad sales, compared to 69 percent during the fourth quarter of 2014.

    3. In its Q4 earnings release, Twitter said its global ad revenues for the quarter came in at $2.37 per 1,000 timeline views, its standard engagement metric. That was up 60 percent from a year earlier. For the quarter, mobile ad sales accounted for 88 percent of the total, up from 85 percent in the third quarter.

    4. @1;19 You obviously have no clue how advertising works in social media. Here's a video on how advertising works.

    5. Hey 1040... You're gonna be one of those "old farts" someday. Let's see how you feel when your precious 140 characters gets ripped apart by what's new and cool. In other words, watch your mouth.

  11. Since the VDLC thing is going so well over at 5, the brains at 7 decided they better hurry and get into the game.

  12. I live in San Diego (but Bay Area native and lived in the area for many years) and watch a considerable amount of local news from all stations. Natasha Zouves has never really stood out as an exceptional news anchor or on-air talent doing weather and such. However there are definitely a few other women anchors in the San Diego market who I'm convinced would do quite well in the Bay Area and really catch on with viewers.

  13. Your "young demographic" don't watch local TV news and they're not going to start, especially in San Francisco. End of this discussion. Next.

    1. These women look like they belong at a Woodside Black and White Ball. Kids don't relate to this. They like tattoo's and hardware. How about a handsome Lumbersexual dressed in a flannel shirt and suspenders? Even Ken Bastida in a tank top...

Ronn and his choir must be apoplectic today. Tuned into KGO expecting Alan Dershowitz and John Bolton. Instead it was Christine with a lively hour on Iran! Refreshing talk radio. Savage and Fox are foaming at the mouth, can't listen to it.

      Delete
    2. I'm sure Christine Craft is extremely gratified doing fill in for a station barely above a 1.0. Might as well do a show for her pit-bulls, she'd have a bigger audience. Blowensteinnnnnnn must've been too steamed over the Iran deal to show up for work. To his racist ilk, the "barbaric" Iranians only understand force.

  14. This was the "news" I alluded to in a comment on a previous 415 post. This girl is solid. So is Katie but Burton, like RL said, is enamored with the "LA look." He wants glamour and he wants that glamour to not be caucasian. Fact.

Katie is a hell of a reporter. She'll be fine. I'll miss watching her on the weekends. That team, along with the weather guy and Mike Schuman, had chemistry. We'll see.

As for the mood in the newsroom, I'm guessing it will be the same. Just like every other shop: show up, do the work, keep your head down, and go home thankful you still have a job.

  15. I'll make a prediction here - good things happened toCarolyn Johnson and Cecilia Vega. I'll bet good things will happen to Katie Marzullo as well. Sure hope so!

  17. Wow. You folks really now how to tear someone down. Here's the deal. I've known Natasha for years. I know her work. She's smart. One of the good ones. And she's more than capable of owning this or any role at KGO. And if anyone would like to put some money on that...let me know. I could use the cash infusion.

    1. My thoughts exactly. Maybe it is the fact that most Americans are fat slobs? They see an average weight, decent looking female and she passes as HOT.

  19. I follow Natasha Zouves on instagram and on twitter: She's half Greek and Chinese and yeah she's HOT!!! Natasha got a huge following in San Diego TV market and more likely will have the similar appeal a la 'Erica Kato' when she makes debut in Bay September! Cant' wait! =]

  23. I'm from San Diego and I loved watching Natasha and hated seeing her go! Our loss is your gain and yet it's amazing to see how Bay Area viewers feel so superior you're already cutting down a young lady who hasn't even started working at KGO! STFU!! You have no basis for judging so hold on until then!!
