I once had a client who was a local TV personality and was surprised that (s)he was a 1099 contractor. The tax/insurance nut is not insubstantial if these folks are not employees. If that is the business model for the industry, these figures are not very substantial for many of them.
ReplyDeleteI've asked about that here before. If they're 1099 employees with no insurance, retirement, etc. those are good, but not great salaries.
DeleteWe are not 1099 employees.
Delete3:17
ReplyDeleteAre you a mortgage broker or accountant
Or Divorce Attorney!
Folsom and Heenan really low on the list. Interesting.
ReplyDeleteRadnich and Murphy make a disgusting amount for being terrible at their respective jobs.
That's just a matter of opinion. If that many people thought the same, I'm sure their ratings would be terrible, but they're not.
DeleteWhat is it that makes a talker worth $500000,$200000 or even $100000? Those salaries are absurd, whether employee or contractor.
ReplyDeleteUhhh, other cities guys make a lot more.
DeleteThey sell ads.
They entertain 4-5 hours a day. Unique skills, like it or not.
The same thing that makes athletes multi millionaires, they're entertainers.
DeleteGood to see Julie Haener finally getting the same salary as Frank Somerville but strange to see Heather Holmes making 350,000.00 a year and her weekend anchor Ken Wayne only 275,000.00 as Ken has been with KTVU for over 20 years and Heather less than 10 years.
ReplyDeleteSurprise Gasia is not on the list!!
DeleteAgreed. Wayne is outstanding as reporter and anchor. Holmes not so much.
DeleteYay! I make more than Daria and I don't have to sleep with an ugly guy to get it.
ReplyDeleteYay! Way to brag and insult at the same time.
DeleteSteve Stock who? Jon Bristow who? Doug Sovern who? Tony Kovesomething- who? congrats! Making money like people I've heard of. Overachiever ribbons for all of them.
ReplyDeleteYou must only listen to KNBR if you really don't know who Sovern or Bristow is.
DeleteWith his tenure in the business, I am glad to see Vic Lee up on that list.
ReplyDeleteI take some comfort knowing Liz Cook makes less than $200K.
ReplyDeleteHer latest malaprop:
Delete"Transidential Meditation"
You would think Daddy would have gotten her some cash especially if VDLC is making 400k
DeleteLiz is a sweetheart in person. I worked with her in palm Springs and she came in there as a reporter and blew away all her competition and ended up as an anchor.
DeleteWhat about David Louie? He has been on the air channel 7 for over 40 yrs?
ReplyDeleteCan't believe Larry Krueger makes 200K. I'm from Missouri on that one.
Larry Kruger makes more than Katherine Heenan? Crazy. I like Kruger, but he's not more worthy than Ms. Heenan...
ReplyDeleteWhen Krueger last signed his contract Radnich had to brag on air that the love of his life had signed for 200g. Later Kreuger said he bought some 25g+ membership to the SF yacht, polo& golf club-or something like that. It was Larry now rubbing elbows with guys a few short years ago he had to grovel to in selling insurance. He would have paid anything by the sound of it..
ReplyDeleteThis annual post is the most talked about RL post all year...in all the local newsrooms.
ReplyDeleteThe agents are busy today!
how much do sarah and vinnie make?
ReplyDeleteEven though they're both drivetime hosts, I don't see how Murphy and Tolbert make the same. I endure Murphy and enjoy Tolbert. Plus, Tolbert's been there much longer.
ReplyDeleteI remember hearing that the Warriors paid Fitz KNBR salary. Wonder if that is still the case?
ReplyDeleteIt's so embarrassing for Bay Area media to pay such high prices for such low talent. The Bay Area is not a destination point for talented media types. Most go where they can make the most money. Don't blame them.
ReplyDeleteWell deserved for Vic Lee. Best reporter on the streets bar none.
ReplyDeleteFor the most part some of your figures are pretty close.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if those folks starting at 43 can afford to live in the city anymore...
ReplyDeleteHow was Elizabeth Cook able to keep her salary private?
ReplyDeleteIts good to have a Disney Daddy
DeleteHoly Crap! 200K for telling us which freeways are crowded? I want Sal's job!
ReplyDeleteThe fact that Larry Beil earns more than Gary Radnich must rankle Radnich.
ReplyDeleteAma Deatz has come a long way since Sackamenna!
ReplyDeleteI see the black host at KNBR isn't on the list as far as 6 figures. Where's Al Sharpton or Stan?
ReplyDeleteVery good observation 4:51pm. Many of us have been wondering the same.
DeleteThe way to get more money is to go in and ask for it. Don't be afraid to just do it on your own. The worst thing they can do is say "no". They won't fire you for just asking. Enhance your conversation for coming up with a reason or two as to why you should earn more. Use your imagination.
DeleteNeither is Paul McCaffrey's nor Ray Ratto's salaries listed, who are also co-hosts of KNBR shows.
DeleteWhat about the A.M group? You have Roberta, Christina, and Darya...please all three are just plain bad. And that is saying it nicely. I guess it doesn't pay to work in the mornings.
ReplyDeleteVery surprised at the low KRON salaries, except Radnich!. Whether you like her or not, Darya is on several hours a day and must bring in a lot of viewers. Looks like most of the money goes to a select few at the top. Wonder what the support staff (producers, camera operators, etc.) get paid??? van Amburg for ABC 7 was making a million dollars 40 years ago.
ReplyDeleteWOW! Catherine Heenan deserves a lot more for putting up with all the BS at KRON. She is a class act all the way.
ReplyDeleteRadnich doesn't get a huge salary anymore because his tv ratings suck.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what Dave Clark and Pam Cook make?
ReplyDeleteSavage?
ReplyDeleteSo salaries have dropped? If Van Ambur made $1 Mill a year in 1986...
