I'm skipping the big fight Saturday night--the fight of the century they're calling it.
All I needed to know about this Floyd Mayweather guy and his history of beating up women sealed the deal.
I know this shit sounds holier-than-thou type of stuff but after reading this I'll watch a movie and order some good food.
Enjoy the show.

This fight should've occurred 5 years ago. It is overhyped by know nothing boxing fans who never watch the sweet science except for the big events. It is no where near fight of the century. What a joke! Anyone paying $100 to watch this is a fool.
ReplyDeleteThey've ALL been "the fight of the century," as far back as I can remember. Although, this is the first one that I've heard of in the 21st century. But, there were a gazillion of them in the 1900s.
ReplyDeleteOne of the silliest lines I've ever heard on a TV interview was from Bryant Gumbel, on The Today Show. I don't remember who the winner turned out to be, or how many millions he earned, but it was over in 8 seconds. The next day, Gumbel ended his interview with: "Congratulations, Champ! You earned every penny." (?!?!?!?)
I agree with 8:45 AM. Is this 38 year old guy really at the top of the boxing world?
ReplyDeleteThere must not be many young contenders allowed to fight him. Why is this such a big deal? Is it because there are so few boxing matches that garner national attention. It was reported to be the largest weigh-in attendance in the history of the arena. That arena being the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. All this fuss for Welterweights? Okay. I'm thrilled that the fight date is here, so I won't have to keep hearing about it so much, after today.
I agree with your first poster. While it should be a good fight, it's a shame that the business of boxing held up this match for so long. Both guys are past their prime. Boxing needs a shot in the arm, but by charging people an arm and a leg to watch this match on TV, they cut out the casual fans who might be interesting in joining in. The sport needs to some serious improvement and unfortunately Mayweather is more of a thug than Tyson was, and Manny, while beloved in his home country and in other far flung places is not an American, which hurts the chance to build some appeal. Plus it really gets annoying hearing how this is the 'fight of the century!' How about Schmeling and Lewis, Ali/Frazier or Leonard/Duran?
ReplyDeleteYep this turd made the Dickipedia list.

Then I also think that all of you that enjoy watching this so called "sport" are total dicks too.
Its good versus evil. I hope good at least gives evil a puffy face at least.
ReplyDeleteOne takes pictures of himself helping children in poverty.
The other takes pictures of himself in bed with stacks of money.
Guess who Radnich wants to win?
Wow, a boxer with a history of violent behavior. Unimaginable!.
ReplyDelete11:32 Am. Don't be so hasty to throw blanket judgments. My dad was a semi-pro boxer in the late 50's thru early 60's, until work necessities intervened. He was always a gentleman at home, and from what I could see, he never treated my mother disrespectfully. He was brought up to respect and treasure women. A lot has to do with how one is brought up, how do you see your authority figures handling stress, frustration, or rejection. Dad was able to project his strength by giving us kids 'The Look' which said "Don't F with me. I said the discussion is over!"
DeleteTwo of the most decorated fighters in the world, a "story" of good vs. evil, and sure they're not in their primes but one is undefeated and the two of them are still some of the most talented fighters in the world... how do you not understand the appeal? All the theater of Wrestlemania BUT IT'S REAL. Great day for sports fans... and anyone paying $100 to see it, just happens to have $100 to spend on stuff they want.
ReplyDeleteI'd rather take a $100 bill, wipe my behind with it and burn it before spending it on this overhyped fight. To each his own.
DeleteI'm right there with you except that I will watch some baseball rather than a movie. When I was a kid, I watched boxing on Friday nights with my dad but have had no interest since then. Also, I agree with your thoughts on the woman beater!
ReplyDelete"The Fight of the Century"
ReplyDeleteYou may be onto something. The rains we had last winter for a few days was "the storm of the century", and we are now in a drought.
White liberals can't admit that a minority is guilty of spousal abuse.
ReplyDeleteBecause it doesn't fit the PC narrative?
DeleteMZ must be kicking himself for scheduling George Noory one of the most exciting sporting days in years.
ReplyDeleteKeegan Bradley vs. Miguel Angel Jimenez?
ReplyDeleteWait, boxing still exists?
ReplyDeleteNow Pac Man claims to have been injured before the fight. Sounds like bullshit and excuses.
ReplyDeletei'm waiting for the Lieberman/Lowenstein pay per view
ReplyDeleteI'd pay top dollar for Lieberman vs Copey aka Byron Allen in a cage match.
Deletehey! remember Celebrity Boxing?
Deletei think we're on to something!
Talk Host Boxing!
bring it on!
Don't compare the two. Byron Allen actually can be funny.
DeleteBoxing . . . zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
ReplyDeleteCongrats to the promoters for getting 4 million people to shell out $100 for this crap... Watched it online and it was incredibly boring... As for this wife-beating tough guy that poses in bed with money (real classy), you would think he would be the aggressor in the ring. But no, he spent most of the fight backing away in a defensive posture. Yeah, he won and has great defensive skills, but not really an exciting boxer, IMO... Foreman/Ali was a zillion times better. Watching these two welterweights was like watching two mosquitoes fight.
ReplyDeleteAbout the only thing positive I can see from this fight is that it gave a lot of large families a good reason to get together and have a good time, providing they can pitch in.
ReplyDeleteOtherwise they would get together for just weddings or funerals. Of course there is all the in-law dynamics etc.
