415 Media Exclusive: Campbell Leaving KTVU On Her Terms; Asiana Gaffe Played No Part In Decision; After Two Decades Ready To Travel; Inside Story

It would be extremely convenient and a logical assumption that Tori Campbell leaving KTVU was hastened by her direct involvement in the Asiana Airline pilot's name gaffe.

It would also be wrong too.

According to multiple KTVU sources, Campbell is leaving on her own volition; she wasn't pushed out the door and simply feels it's time to move on and enjoy life and travel. Furthermore, Campbell's husband lives in Seattle and the grind of frequent commutes to the Northwest took its toll and Campbell decided, among other reasons, that it was time to leave.

My KTVU spy told me that Campbell informed the "Mornings on Two" staff about her decision yesterday (Wednesday) and insisted that the decision was "hers alone." No one else at the station other than a few management figures were notified.

Said one of the sources:
"She's had 20 years in the biz; she just turned 50 and she wants to travel a little, see her family--she's gonna get a nice pension and she's going out on her terms--it's as simple as that."
It should be noted that right before the Asiana affair, Campbell signed a contract extension that was for three years--two years and an option. That would have taken her to June, 2015. Her last day at KTVU is June 19th.

Campbell, by all accounts, is a nice person. "A real pro," said a staffer. Her tenure at KTVU, unfortunately, might be highlighted, or maybe lowlighted, by her reading of the fake names on that infamous newscast back in July, 2013. To some, Campbell's action was worthy of instant termination. Others said she was simply caught up in a monumental, momentary brain fart that most likely will be embedded for years to come.

Welcome to the Internet.

  2. The only people who thought Campbell should be fired are people who don't know jack about about TV. She was never a favorite of mine but I am gad she's leaving under her own steam.

  3. I am not a regular KTVU news viewer anymore. During the few times that I have seen Tori's newscasts in recent years, she appeared tired.

  4. Sad that most here will remember her for falling for a prank once.

    1. No. I will remember the fact that she read the ENTIRE list, including
Ho Lee Fuk, which got people fired

    2. Very true. Sad when you've put together a 20 year career, and you're basically known as the real life Ron Burgundy.

Oh, Really?? And, WHO might have been the leader of that cause, Rich? Oh, yes ... it was Rich.

  6. I like Tory, but I would agree with previous poster that she does appear tired, and uncomfortable at times on the air. She obviously has no personal chemistry with Dave Clark. I hope KTVU gives Pam Cook a shot - now she is a natural!

  8. The scary part is that management will not make any moves regarding the removal of Dave Clark.I hope they are merely waiting for his contract to expire.

    2. @Kathleen
"The scary part"? Nothing "scary" about it. In fact, there are far more serious issues in the Bay Area that are "scary." Your hyperbole is ridiculous.

  9. She's been happy as a clam this morning. Wore a nice sun dress, looked like she dropped 10 pounds since I last watched. Introduced Gasia as the new host.
Maybe that weight that had been on her shoulders . She's free now.

  11. Tori is a class act and a dear friend! I wish her and Larry and their sons the best. Aside from being co-workers, were were neighbors and remain close friends to this day! So when all that new found traveling brings you back to the East Coast, let's have another great seafood dinner in Providence! Happy trails my friend! Cheers!!!
