John Rothmann on Bibi Speech

Rothmann: "The speech of a lifetime--'bottom line--appeasement will not work."

  1. I just don't get the influence Israel has here. Is it the money from the banks? The media owners? The Christians who believe that we should do whatever Israel wants? Or a combination of all 3?

    1. Anyone who criticizes Israel is deemed antisemitic. Politicians are scared of the Jewish lobby and their henchmen like Alan Derschowitz. Check out how Glenn Greenwald exposed Derschowitz and his reaction. It is well documented. I'm sick and tired of bowing to Israel in whatever they do which is why I don't miss Rothman's show. The victimhood card has gotten old.

    1. You have to understand that Netanyahu and his party want a war with Iran. They actually want it to happen. Not a war between Isreal and Iran, of course, but between the US and Iran. That's their endgame.

Why do you think he keeps going on about setting "red lines". He knows that if the US commits to taking military action if Iran does X, then all they have to do is goad Iran into doing X (or false flag it). Then, his allies in the US congress will shame the administration into taking action.

That's also why he's making this speech. He wants the negotiations with Iran to fail. He's being deliberately provocative in an attempt to get Iran to drop out or the US congress to force through increased sanctions.

If the talks succeed, war becomes less likely. So he needs them to fail at all costs

    2. The economy has been bouncing along the bottom now since 2008. An entire generation has now lost so much they will probably never catch up. Washington.....the GOP mostly....has done everything possible to obstruct and hobble any economic recovery. They have refused every common sense solution to jump-start the economy. Universal healthcare? No. Student loan forgiveness? No. Housing subsidies for the poor? No. Increased funding for job training/education? No. Rebuilding infrastructure? No. All of the above are examples of Godless socialism.

The same GOP politicians who refuse every manner of aid to the American poor automatically vote yes to billions of dollars in aid to Israel. Israel is a country that has universal health care. Israel is a country that provides free/low cost education and job training. Israel is a country that provides housing subsidies. Israel funds massive public works projects, etc.

In addition to providing billions in direct aid, Washington provides billions in 'loans' to Israel, almost of which have been 'forgiven' before they come due. Nice. You think Washington will ever forgive your student loans?

Yup, I'll start worrying about Israel when the US gov gives me the same deal it gives Israeli citizens.

  5. Obama is doing everything in his power to embolden Iran and Muslim fanatics. It starts with the power he has vested in Valerie Jarrett. She does not speak for herself when she called the gathering of world leaders following Charlie Hebdo a "parade". Jarrett, born in Iran, is there to push the Obama Muslim agenda including the arming of Iran and the destruction of Israel.

  8. If you take "the bottom line" there isn't any room left for solutions. Sure, kill the extremists. Its like negotiating with Premier Chuck Manson to deal with them. But the vast majority who want peace is left. Like Diane Feinstein said,he does not speak for all Jews.
Also, for the Obama bashers..the economy reached 5,000 the right way because of the President.
He killed Bin Laden,he's restoring the economy,he created additional health care,on and on. And some multi millionaire nut on the radio gets paid to complain how bad this country and life is! Teddy eats better then most people....

  9. 9:23 is right...Poor tiny Israel with its unadmitted huge nuclear arsenal does not want to send its own soldiers into Iran. The Persian nuke sites are embedded in mountains, and cannot be taken out by Israeli or American air strikes. The job would require the old "boots on the ground" scenario. Mr. Netanyahu wants us to do his perceived dirty work. When American zionists like John Rothmann are willing to send their own American sons as part of the US military to avenge Bibi's arrogant ego, I'll take notice. I enjoy talking to John, but that doesn't change this set of facts.
As for some of the moaning above about "anti-semitism", please be advised that the Palestinians are just as semitic as Israelis. Persians are not semites, however. One can be utterly opposed to the genocide practiced by the current Israeli government, and not be anti-semitic. No American owes a scintilla of fealty or allegiance to a foreign country, Israel included.

    1. Christine: You have the right to state your warped, consistent, anti-Israel rhetoric for which I profoundly disagree--I have publically called you out and challenged you to have a civil DEBATE on this issue which is not merely Israel-Iran and the US, but indeed a potential collision course affecting the entire free world.

Since you so pointedly and proudly point out your feelings then I ask you, urge you really, to take part in this debate --seriously, your ad hominem use of the word, "Zionists" and personal attack on John Rothmann deserves a response and dialogue.

I do not speak for Mr. Rothmann--he can defend himself but I would bet your distasteful remarks and utter vitriol needs to be and, from this corner, confronted.

If you choose to use this venue as a means to air your opinion, fine, then at least have the courage to listen and allow others to debate and debase your disturbing and outrageous statements, some of which are not only wrong, my opinion, but insensitive and hurting too to everyone, not just the entire Jewish community as a whole.

You know where to reach me.

    2. John Rothmann is a proud zionist..did you not know this?. Ask him if calling him an American Zionist is untrue. I have no interest in being intimidated by your accusation of anti-semitism..I think Americans , of which I am one, have every right to question the use of our military and our treasure to support a foreign country. There is no need to capitalize the word "debate". There is no such thing as "ad homonym"(sic). You oddly proclaim that I am not "allowing others to debate and debase blah blah blah". No one is barred from doing that at all. I can't imagine you've ever engaged in an actual "debate" on anything. With what specific fact do you disagree in my original post to your site? Does not Mr. Netanyahu want the US to do its dirty work in Iran?. Are Palestinians not semites? Mr Netanyahu , without warnings, released flood waters destroying more Palestinian homes last week. Was that just a friendly "shower" or part of the continuing genocide? Did it make you happy?
.I'm surprised that you would find the word "zionist" an insult..Why is that? Aren't you a zionist? Do you know what it means? Has Mr. Rothmann urged his two strapping, military aged sons to join the US military?

    3. The context in which you referred to him as a "Zionist" reveals your point of you as it always IS--I'm not going to debate you here --I would be happy to engage with you on this matter in any forum you choose (other than here) where your long-winded, one-sided bias is completely open and transparent.

      That's it.

  11. Rich - your responses to Christine are the best pieces I've read from you. Well said, well said. Let us not forget that she is the same, warped & cruel woman who, when a colleague's wife died shortly after attending a barbecue, used the occasion as a platform to discuss a proper DIET and how it was the wife's fault. She is a highly disturbed individual....and you, sir, handled her repetitive rhetoric flawlessly. Perhaps she will soak up your words before she makes a B-line for therapy, though one shouldn't hold his breath.

  12. Ya'll understand that if Obama had taken the position for "boots on the ground" in Iran, Boehner would have invited the treaty negotiators to speak in favor of this treaty.

  13. I have to agree with Christine. I have heard Rothmann proudly proclaim in no uncertain terms he is a ZIONIST - with a Capital "Z". Call him, not Christine Rich. In fact Christine was the only host on KGO that made any attempt to put forward a serious debate (not a one sided screed) on any of the Middle East issues. Netanyahu's attempt to undermine my President is nothing short of an outrage. The fact our dysfunctional government allowed him to is an outrage. 2 Trillion dollars of our treasure wasted on that part of the world. We don't even need their oil anymore. Let the Religious zealots of all stripes battle it out. As Gene Burns would have it, let them fight it out for themselves.

  14. Please 11:19 ..hold your breath. No wife of a "colleague" of mine died after attending a barbecue. The very sweet wife of someone I knew briefly died of a stroke at an untimely age. Obesity and arthero-sclerotic disease were contributing factors. That final piece of plaque that can send you into a fatal moment(via infarct or stroke) is typically related to what one eats. Ignore it.

  18. The deal with Iran will get done, even if the President has to issue another executive order to bypass any Congressional roadblocks. Iran will have all their sanctions lifted and will ramp up their nuclear program as their economy blossoms. As the 10 years expire, Iran will reveal hundreds of nuclear weapons. Within 15 years, we will likely see a nuclear exchange within the middle east. It's obvious, Iran has made clear exactly what their goals are. It's amazing to me people dismiss Iran's stated goals of "Death to America" by sticking their heads in the sand and pretending all will be well. We have the economic leverage now with the collapse of oil to force Iran into a better deal. But no, our crack negotiators will just give them a 10 year pass to do whatever they want.

Maybe we can all join hands and blow hard in 10-15 years at the nuclear fallout as it sweeps across the US. We reap what we sow.

    1. Khrushchev repeatedly threatened the United States and the rest of the West with nuclear annihilation. Maybe we should bomb them before they bomb us. I can remember "Duck and Cover" drills in school. The Russians were bent on destoying the world. They don't love thier families like we do so there is nothing stopping them. I hear the same vitriol now; only the subject's uniform and skin tone are different. Frankly, I'm getting pretty tired of sootsayers telling me who to fear because of what was said out of fear and anger. The more things change, the more they stay the same. It is a crying shame.

    2. The Russians, for all their issues, have a western view of life. I don't recall many Russian suicide bombers during the cold war. The Cuban missile crisis ended when Khrushchev realized there would be a nuclear exchange between the USSR and US if things didn't change and both countries would be annihilated. The Russians valued their lives enough to avoid that. If the radial Islamists had controlled those nuclear weapons back then, the world would be a nuclear wasteland today. They have proven over and over again they don't value human life. It is a crying shame people don't see the difference.

  19. I make no claim to be on the radio on a regular basis. I had a long career in television long before I ever did radio .I'm delighted that I've been doing fill in on KGO for twenty years, while practicing law full time in another city. What a great opportunity it is to helm the wurlitzer. I'm not sure what you think I "wanna-be", exactly. I don't know what you mean by "YOUR colleague". Is there a need to capitalize "your", for some reason? The person who died young of a needless stroke was a very nice person. I made no comment about her cause of death until several years after her demise, and only then ,when a morbidly obese fb "friend" was complaining endlessly about her own health woes, while posting pictures of her own passion for unhealthy food. The hubby of the deceased woman( who stuffed her with barbecue on the day of her demise) thought greasy crap was fine for consumption and said so. I would say the very same thing today about the relationship of intake to health consequences. This is no big secret. It is also not a secret that Netanyahu wants us to go fight his wars, has just asked the us for more megabucks(while our own veterans are homeless). It's not a secret that John Rothmann and I aren't enemies, and got along fine, though disagreeing on to what degree Israel should control American foreign policy. It's no secret that John is a zionist. Rich Lieberman who spends so much time discussing the breast shapes of women in the media, should spend some more. time learning what a zionist is, before he challenges anyone to a debate. He was unable to refute anything I said about the US/Israel relationship. I suggest that he do a real debate with a great American and jew, former labor secy' Robert Reich, right here at Cal, who would have him for lunch and still be hungry. I double dare you Rich...it'll help you sharpen up your non-existent debating skills.

    1. Amen!! Christine, the way you referred to a former colleague in your first post here as an "American Zionist" came across as pretty vitriolic. Your comments won't reflect highly with the KGO PD when it comes to any future "substitute gigs."
Rich, you hit a home run today with your responses. I'd cancel a Doctor's Appt. to hear a Lieberman/Craft debate. You would trounce her.

    2. 7:12 ..I think you should tell John Rothmann that he isn't allowed to be a proud American zionist. He has every right to be. He used to be the president of the local world zionist group. I merely stated that fact. How is that "pretty vitriolic" Do you think he has no right to be who he is?
What you are saying here really, is that I should be all trembly as an American who questions the power of a foreign lobby to control our foreign policy. I should fear that some imaginary PD in the future would not want Americans to think outside of a strict orthodoxy, lest they be called anti-semitic. Piffle on that. I remember quite well when John, who is a friend, had Akiva Tor(the Israeli counsel general in SF) on his show. Mr. Tor said he'd "love to debate a pro-palestinian advocate, but there were none available or suitable for him to debate"
. In response, I easily found one who could engage Mr. Tor quite directly and substantively. I hosted a two hour program on KGO with Mr. Tor and a professor at Cal. . Mr Tor who oozes charm, arrived with his bodyguards. It was quite a show. I wasn't intimidated then, and I'm not now. Mr. Lieberman, whose expertise involves the appraisal of mammary glands and alleged giggles and anything he can to bash KGO, has neither a forum, nor an understanding of how an actual "debate" is structured to call for a debate. He won't even acknowledge that Netanyahu who claims to want to stand alone if necessary, doesn't mean it. Netanyahu will not send Israeli soldiers into Iran, he wants Americans to do his dirty work. This is not in the best interests of the United States, which is my country.

  21. Iran is the world's greatest sponsor of terrorism. They have vowed to wipe Israel off the map. They are building ICBMs as we speak - not contemplated or prevented by this proposed agreement - that are designed to reach the U.S. And, at best, this deal only postpones the Iranians possessing internationally-sanctioned nuclear weaponsfor a DECADE. That's if you assume they even remotely negotiate in good faith, which given their history and ideology requires a naivete that surpasses that of Neville Chamberlain or Ramsey Clark.

Only pressure - severe pressure - will affect the calculus of the mullahs. We can stay at the table, but negotiate with an appropriate display of teeth. And not be afraid to walk away, the most effective tactic of all.

The argument that heavier sanctions will just drive them further to producing bombs is risible. First, sanctions are what brought them to the table in the first place. Second, they are fully intent on getting nukes, what about this murdering, totalitarian regime leads one to believe they're only interested in a "peaceful" energy program? Their repeatedly ignoring UN sanctions? Skirting the IAEA? Here's Director Amano's statement from just yesterday, hardly reassuring...

    https://www.iaea.org/newscenter/focus/iran

Our best option to avoid our boots ultimately on the ground and our missiles in the air is to foment insurrection through squeezing their economy. And when the second "Persian Spring" erupts, having a President with the moral clarity and courage to SUPPORT it, overtly and more importantly covertly.

The Obama administration and the State Department are riddled with fools at best, anti-Semites at worst. Positions once occupied by George Shultz and Jeane Kirpatrick are now filled by the most charitable description naive narcissists obsessed with their "legacy" at the expense of realpolitik and statecraft that serves our national security goals. Who call decorated war heroes like Netanyahu "chicken-sh**." And, as stated by others here, there's a more than an occasional whiff of anti-Judaism in their remarks. Read back 10 years the statements of people like Chuck Hagel and Samantha Power. And of course, John "apartheid/third intifada" Kerry. Minister Yaalon shouldn't have apologized for terming Kerry "Messianic" - it's a perfectly apt description.

And don't discount the pernicious influence of Iranian-born Val Jarrett...Chicago machine apparatchik turned Rasputin. Now, she often sits in on foreign policy discussions beyond her brief, unfortunately taking a chair intended for someone with actual expertise.

As for our Prez, the killings at the kosher deli in Paris were "random?" What mindset could produce this sort of statement? Hard to imagine more than one answer.

And regarding his ability to unilaterally conclude this agreement...there's this little inconvenient truth called Article II:

[The President] shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur...

Does anybody think, particularly after today, that he can achieve even a plurality? If he tries to circumvent this process, we're WAY beyond high crimes and misdemeanors folks. I've resisted the "I-Word" but its use in this scenario is precisely the remedial measure our Founders envisioned.

God Bless America. God Bless Israel.
