KTVU has begun to quietly rebrand itself with new Fox-infused graphics and look on its newscasts. The graphics have more "FOX" Id and a middle-screen, blue streak with the headline. It's not that dramatic a new look other than Fox2's new emphasis and less KTVU--"Channel 2."
I actually like it and think it's a cleaner appearance. If you like it you're in luck because you're going to be seeing more of it. If not, you might not be a happy camper.
Again, it's not something that would make me not want to watch Channel 2--the real early bona fide difference is actually on the screen where anchors are more noticeably in a chit-chat mode. That's the most significant new entity since Fox took control of KTVU in mid-October.
Based on KTVU's stoic independence of the past, I'm not feeling the Foxification of KTVU. It doesn't look bad- but I can go without the rock music theme and this morning, the (bumper music ?) was playing at one tempo but Sal was (purposely) talking REALLY slow and down and it did not match. Then Steve who is normally the epitome of cool and laid back, went into this hyper fast and animated weather forecast. Then you have the forced ad-libbing between Dave, Pam, Sal and Steve-who I gather get along just fine but it all just seems forced. Wait till a big story breaks, it's going to be all "ACTION NEWS 2" . We in the Bay Area used to pride ourselves on a straight newscast. Those days are long gone.
ReplyDeleteIt will take a little time for the on air folks to adjust to the new format and the higher ups know that. They'll either become comfortable with the new look and feel or not. Salinas is always hiring...
DeleteThe graphics are OK but they gotta bring back the clock
ReplyDeleteI saw the new graphics on Mornings On 2 this morning. A bit jarring at first, but I agree--much cleaner, and I think crisper and more professional looking. The older ones kinda got in the way.
ReplyDeleteLooks bad. Very FOX-y
ReplyDeleteI agree completely! Not a fan. Now shopping alternative news channels. I've always been a fan of Brian Hackney from Eye On The Bay on 5.
DeleteAs long as they stay away from going full retard like their parent news company I don't give a rat's ass about the graphics.
ReplyDeleteThe clock will be back tomorrow
ReplyDeletetimely
DeleteThe clock debuted on the 7pm newscast
DeleteAs long as the news segments don't go to a "Faux News" approach, I'm OK with some changes.
ReplyDeleteThe graphics don't mean a lot, to me.
What I've noticed on "Mornings on 2," is that the last half hour is tending to include recipe, and feature-type stuff. By that time, the "news" news, has pretty much been covered.
At 10 PM, I check-in to see what's "new." But, short of the apocalypse being upon us, I switch to Seinfeld re-runs.
The logo itself doesn't bother me as much as the red white and blue. That's the fox aspect that has bothered me for years. The wrapping themselves in the flag. Will the anchors be told to wear lapel pins of the flag too? Will they have a flag waving in the background alas Fox News?
ReplyDeleteYou some kind of commie who hates freedom (tm)? Red, white and blue is the same as those cheese eating cowards the French!
DeleteLooks like the faux outrage over Chuck Hebdo by right wingers like 2:40pm is over. They're back to attacking the French! Two weeks ago you were OUTRAGED Obama didn't go to Paris. Now the French are cowards again. I assume you're back to boycotting French fries? There is a time for the Stars and Stripes but it is not on the ten o'clock news.
DeleteLooks like shit .... on a Sony trinitron tube tv.
ReplyDeleteAll you see is an annoying "red" 1/16 blob on the bottom left corner of the tube.
After I looked on my HDTV, that red artifact is "fox2" in the left corner.
New image does not fit 4 x 3 tv viewing area.
The glass tube tvs are very durable and hard to kill.
So this is a foxx fukk upp.... with what looks like a blood spot on the glass tv.
A Sony Trinitron tube TV???
DeleteThe KTVU news app probably sucks on your rotary phone, too.
How do Ozzie and Harriet look on that Trinitron? They want their TV back.
DeleteCollectors Item
DeleteWill be worth a lot of money some day. Get your own color-tv.
I noticed last week, the radio and TV Promos for the news. There is such an emphasis on saying KTVU FOX 2.
ReplyDeleteHave you see the billboards for Bill Martin? Such a FOX looking graphic, too
ReplyDeleteWEATHER AUTHORITY!
DeleteThat made me laugh out loud.
Did you miss TRAFFIC AUTHORITY?
ReplyDeleteGraphics may be Cool but KTVU FOX 2 is still having Technical Miscues-Just at 5:30pm a Picture of the poor Jordanian Soldier who was burnt alive by ISIS was shown with the Caption below stating Oakland Rapper killed!
ReplyDeleteI am surprised it hasn't yet induced seizures. The facebook/twitter constant changing, the lighting changes around the blue bar, the rotating spirals when the screen is split and there's otherwise blank spaces, the phony clouds coming through while the WEATHER AUTHORITY is speaking ... Sal must be thinking WTF, TRAFFIC AUTHORITY? Frank must be keeping his mouth shut, knowing he wants to provide well for his family. Hate it.
ReplyDeleteRemember NBC Bay Area? They had phony clouds in weather reports when they had the Look C graphics from NBC Artworks.
DeleteNew logo huh? I'll check it out next time I click over to 2...next football season.
ReplyDeleteI like it. Shifting the logo from the lower right side of the screen to the left. The previous look had the "2" in black and it looked like it was spray painted on for some reason. Now it looks clean and fresh -- a lot more professional looking. I'm glad they kept the 2 logo design which was originally implemented in 1975 (it was nicknamed at that time as the "Circle Laser 2") but has gone through several iterations with various colors and unique effects over the years.
ReplyDeleteI don't like the look. The Weather Authority thing is really stupid too
ReplyDeleteBeen watching since the 80. I hate all the graphics, so over whelming and dramatic . I am watching KRON now. Everyone I talk to about this change do not like it.
ReplyDeleteJust can't watch anything with the word FOX. Sorry, switching to Channel 5.
