While Paris Hostage Situation Fluid, KGO Radio Went To The Dogs

The dumb-it-down dictum at KGO Radio appears to have made it to the news department.

While the nation and world were paying attention to the ongoing hostage crisis in Paris, KGO was going to the dogs.

Literally.

That's right. How about multiple reports about the dogs in the windows at Macys.

Rough, rough.

KGO didn't say a word. They couldn't. They were too busy doing movie reviews, doofus Jon Bristow was providing celebrity birthdays and giggling Sherry Brown was chortling with co-giggler, "business editor", Jason Middleton.

The station with "world-wide" resources continues to embarrass itself.

  1. I noticed this myself when the big news on KGO was another spare the air day. I found out about the recent Paris events by looking at Facebook. There was a time when yu could not get KGO to stop talking about a story like this. Pathetic. With the management no longer there to blame, who is?

  4. At 8:32 after news broke that shots went off in Paris John Bristow went at length to tell us about a woman who won lotto in San Jose and used her $1 million winnings to pay off her mortgage, her kids' car loans and of course to take a vacation. Of course that's more important than jihad in Paris. I dread local news coverage when the next big local event happens. Holi Fuk!

  5. And KGO TV had, on it's 11 PM newscast, a story about the new film of a star of an ABC show, and Katie Marzullo riding Muni in search of something called "man-spreading" that may or may not be happening here, we're not sure. Huh? This is news?

  6. Tuned in to 810 to hear about the hostage situation in Paris and Brian is talking about the Olympic bid. What on earth?

    1. He was talking about the Paris hostages for a while. Clearly you didn't tune in long enough. They are required to switch topics every 20 minutes or so.

  7. I asked about this the other day on another thread. I thought I was missing it, but no. So the ABC news is now on 910...guess I will go there and suffer through their hosts. Look forward to maybe fill ins by John Rothman? Yes, if the management is no longer there, why don't the news people take the initiative and act like news people. It is like Karel, Ryan Scott and the comedians are running the station, so only interested in the stories that apply to them. Ryan Scott will come up with a recipe for fried squirrel, Karel will eat the squirrel, Maureen, well, don't even want to think what Maureen will do with the squirrel parts, and Brian will call in his buddy comedians and they will all act squirrely together.

Oh my gosh, they just mentioned the Paris situation at the top of the hour? What are they thinking? Must have been a mistake. Gene Burns, Pete Wilson, and other greats are turning over in their graves.
Rich, can you get a different "prove you're not a robot"? This is horrible...

  8. Remember when KFRC was doing game shows on the radio in the 1980s? Hell, that's even better than what KGO ISN'T DOING these days.

  9. The foul-ups are becoming even more frequent. Commercials playing n the middle of reports.

Also, why is KGO playing Emergency Broadcast tests in the middle of shows and new reports? Tests, not actual emergencies.

    1. I believe the EBS tests run automatically at specific times on specific days. If there's an engineer in the building who knows what he/she's doing (unlikely at KGO most of the time) the automatic schedule can be adjusted slightly so it runs without overriding programming.

  10. idea crazy enough it would probably work; offer to hire back Mickey, Jack Swanson, et all and leave them alone. :) You might turn it around Cumulus.... your way clearly didn't work.

  11. Back in 1985, I was One of those Game Show Contestants on KFRC! I didn't win anything but I remember the Still Lovely Vicky Liviakis as the Hostess with Starship's "We Built This City on Rock & Roll" introducing the game show.
