Happy Times at 900 Front; KGO-TV Beats Competition Handily in November '14 Sweeps

Happy (ratings) times at KGO-TV, (ABC7), where November Sweeps numbers are in and the worker bees are happy. Handily

Quick Notes--

#1 at 6PM:
ABC7 News 6PM continues as the top-ranked 6PM news station among Bay Area households with 35% more viewers than #2 ranked KPIX and 67% more viewers than KTVU.  And ABC7 News 6PM has more House Held viewing than KNTV and KRON combined.

ABC7 News: #1 at 11PM
In the 11pm news race, ABC7 News beat stations by huge margins in households and key demos, including  A25-54 and  A18-49. ABC7 had impressive growth at +14% A25-54 and +23% A18-49 compared to November 2013.

  1. Don't know about total numbers but those are some impressive %'s.

  2. Good shooters. Good Reporters. Great Anchors. It shows how a good staff can negate a shitty ND in Tracey "Trixie" Watkowski, the so called wicked Bitch of the East.

  3. ummm.. did the KGO sales dept just email you or something? no one cares about total households, it's all about the demo (A25-54) which KTVU continues to completely dominate

    1. I don't get why it's "all about" 25-54, since 54+ have all the money.

    2. One main reason is because 54+ are considered set in their ways and not easily swayable by new advertising.

  4. KTVU definately dominates in the morning demo. As for KGO the evening newscasts are solid and the reporters and anchors have experience. I can't say that for KPIX. I stopped watching after Dana King left. I can't listen to news delivered from anchors who belong in Bakersfield. (i.e. Miss. Cook). KRON and KNTV are still figuring out what works. Ratings say a lot though and expect changes if the numbers don't improve. That's what happens.

    1. Though dumping King was the right thing, it wasn't enough to salvage their integrity.

  5. The early numbers must be HUT levels (households using television) as opposed to demographic numbers. The demo as it is called is the key, 25-54 is where all the money is made and is where you want to be the top dog. If KGO is bragging about HUT levels at 6PM and the other poster is right about the demographic. That immediately tells you KGO has a lot of older viewers in that time slot. The saying in TV is their audience will be dead in a few years. Another important thing in evaluating ratings are trends which are not mentioned. Is a station up year-to-year or even quarter-to-quarter? All important things that need to be taken into consideration when evaluating a sweeps at the end. Also of note is how are they doing with women? Women viewers tend out number men in the Bay Area, I think the last time I checked it was about 55/45.

  6. So who is number one at 5 and in the morning?

It's clear KTVU's 10pm still has bigger numbers, or they would have called it out.

6pm has long been a fortress for KGO. Not much new there.

11pm though used to be a more competitive race with KPIX.

  7. wait.. you're telling me KGO has 65% more viewers than KTVU at 6pm?? No way that is right

  8. not hard for KTVU to have the biggest #s at 10 since they're the only ones on the air at the time.. oh wait, Nightbeat

  9. Rich, where can we see the raw numbers? Nobody in this market, except for you, reports local TV ratings. Thanks.

    1. OH MY GOD! Ama Daetz mispronounced a person's name. That's far worse than Tori Campbell announcing the Fake Asiana pilots names.

C'mon dude. Don't you have more important thing to worry about than misprounouced names?

  11. After all the investment ... is "We Investigate" not working for KNTV?

    1. Of course its not working. Its all flash and little if any beef. NBC got bamboozled by the Disney castoff ex KGO ND Kevin Keeshan. This is his baby and it sucks, the numbers don't lie.

  12. These numbers show one thing 4 sure is that Dan Asely is this generation's Dennis Richmond...Hands down the best anchor around.as u Rich always say "the numbers do not lie"

  14. Univision Channel 14 actually was the top rated local newscast at 6 p.m. -- it's been the No. 1 news show in that time slot since 2007. Maria Leticia Gomez is one of the best anchors in the market, but totally ignored by the English-language media.
