It's This Simple: A Message To My Readers

415 Media has become the go-to spot for Bay Area media professionals, viewers, listeners and those who are just interested in the goings-on of the business. I am profoundly happy that I've struck a nerve. We've grown leaps and bounds. The new advertising you see validates that and while it's great, it's not enough.

As much as I treasure the wonderful messages of support I get from you I can't pay my bills with your kind words. About two years ago, I floated a trial balloon about putting 415 Media behind a pay wall. After many of you vociferously protested, I reconsidered. I decided it was more important to make 415 Media open to all, even those who visit here often but are not necessarily enthralled with all of the content. That's OK, we don't discriminate.

So, today, I'm asking those of you that like this website, to make a contribution to keep 415 Media a permanent fixture and sustainable. I know things are difficult for most of you. But they're difficult for me too. That's why I've added this contribution button. If you value 415 Media and can afford it, a modest one-time donation allows me the liberty to write the stories you want to know about and have come to appreciate and depend on.

Please click on my Donate button and support 415Media. You don't need to sign up for a PayPal account to make a secure and confidential donation. If you do, I'll be grateful and I'll be sure to say so by private email or call. We'll also raffle off a holiday lunch with me and three of your closest friends at Tommy's Joynt.

It's not just the faces and voices you see and hear every day who make 415 Media the most widely read media news blog in the Bay Area. Many of the hard-working individuals who work long hours for short money and no recognition have given me some of my most important scoops. They do so knowing they are risking their own job to do so, but they do it because they know how important it is to shine the light of day on some of the darker aspects of the current media scene.

I know 415 Media is important to you because over 100,000 of you folks visit this site each week. Many of you write and call me to tell me just how much you appreciate reading inside information about the local television and radio personalities you love (and hate). Others have been generous about giving me news tips and sharing their insight.

I appreciate all your support and again, look forward to a lasting presence here at 415 Media.

*Look for 415 Media 'Extra" in the coming months.

Thanks in advance.

  2. Payday is coming up, I'll be glad to contribute what I can then. Been checking the site daily since the KGO debacle.

  3. I will donate later in this month, very happily too. I have no idea what the different costs are to run this kind of website. When you felt the time was right Rich, I would appreciate if you could break down for us some of the most basic ongoing costs you are dealing with. We don't need exact numbers, I;m no numbers cruncher, but just a general average or range would educate us bloggers a little on the real world.

  4. You mean to tell me the links to "the old guy who cut his grocery bill by 95%" are not generating enough revenue!!???

  5. Have never donated to a blog before but will for you. Enjoy your blog daily, despite you're occasional personal rants.

  7. Tom Leykis through his web site generates over $70k in revenue as an affiliate of Amazon. How come you don't do the same Lieberman? You get a lot of traffic. If folks need something from amazon and wish to support your blog all they need to do is access amazon through your link and you get credit for it. I know you think Leykis is yesterday's news but his online venture is growing...

  9. Why should I donate to a blog instead of a worthwhile charity that provides food or medical assistance to truly needy people who can't help themselves?

  10. Two thoughts. First, if you elect to go the pay wall route at some point, please offer subscribers the option of prepaying for a fixed period of time (up to one year) and then no renewal unless initiated by the subscriber. Automatic renewal can be an option but shouldn't be required. There are many pay wall news sites that I would like to subscribe to but won't because of the automatic renewal/credit card on file thing. That especially goes for sites that may not have have proven long-term staying power.

Second, I agree with Anonymous at Nov. 13 12:22 pm. It would help if you could provide some clues about the economics of keeping your website up & running.

  11. Perhaps a good graphic would be one of these 'thermometers' that show how we're doing . Those who haven't given yet might be inspired by the 'mercury' trending up.
Maybe a goal shown at the top, say $200k?

  12. One tip? start posting gossip facts again. I took the time to write all up..and it never saw even Bleu light.
Radnich gets interest and here's why: He made such a racist statement on knbr "I like white woman and black woman- nothing in between" No surprise to me- he bashes Asian woman all the time.
And?..well.It looks like he and KRON people have been told to stop with the on air groping. 99% of it Radnich caused and started. He held his fist up for a fist pump from Pam Moore to show young woman at KRON she does what Gary wants..and she- for the first time I ever saw- held her arms to her side. THAT was a shocker.
The hostile work environment at KRON for woman is getting attention from the media, and its not good publicity.

    1. Oh yeah, great idea from Stan who has a blog NO ONE READS.

    2. And,while Pam Moore is now observing normal workplace behavior,Radnich thought he would thumb his nose at Company policy- he reached out and laid hand on Moore's arm. She stayed stiff.
The man has reached "old fool" status. Its his right to annoy KRON woman he thinks. Tell that to the lawyers.

  13. Too many of my comments have gone un-posted (odd, considering some of the trash that actually "makes it").....I'll be deleting this site from my "favorites", and certainly won't be paying for any content. The whole world is all about MONEY, and it's sad that this site has gone that direction, also.............no further interest

    1. Seriously, you are a cheapskate and want something for nothing. If you can't afford to contribute right now, just don't, but don't moan about being asked to help out.
