Fallout from Chronicle's Ann Killion 'Beat The Rapist' Tweet Continues But Her Bay Area Sports Media Sheep Remain Curiously Quiet; Monday First Take

As peculiar as Ann Killion's "beat the rapist" tweet that's now become headlines, I'm more curious as to what the fallout will be for Killion if any.

Killion is up for a sportswriter award. She also appears frequently on Comcast Sportsnet Bay Area, the cable outlet where they like a lot of things non-controversial but Killion is the station's token woman scribbler who ironically doesn't say much even when she tries to.

Maybe Killion, when she's not trying to concoct controversy with the 49ers, can tweet on various social issues. We know she's had a stellar start.

Don't expect any of her Comcast sheep to say anything--and the Chronicle too.

*On the other hand, listen today to Damon Bruce on 95.7 FM The Game. He might say something. Just a hunch.

  1. see New York Times on Jameis Wilson. He is a rapist, protected by a team, protected by a police department whose members moonlight for the team. Team and TPD and wilson's lawyers intimidated her to shut her up .Sound familiar? Ann Killion is right. He is a rapist(see details of bruising, battering, DNA). Any reasonable person would get it. He would never have his lawyers sue her, because truth is an absolute defense and having the details re-examined is the last thing they want. I'm amused at all the descriptions of what folks here think Ann Killion's fashion choices should be, how tall she is or isn't..etc. Imagine if that sort of silly, sexist spotlight were turned on the local male sportswriters and broadcasters. ..as they say, omg.

    1. Well said Christine. I don't always agree with your point of view, but in this case you are spot on.

    2. I agree with 10:22, and with Christine's post on this matter. The legal process in Florida has been massively interfered with to protect Winston. He has already been busted on other items, and his trend of behavior is not one to make me inclined to believe that he is innocent of rape, especially considering all the massive tampering with the case on behalf of the thug.

    3. How is that any different than the 49ers, or Pablo on the Giants? Protected by a team and PD whose members moonlight for the team??

    4. Fine, here are my sexist takes. Every year Kruk looks more and more like Mrs Doubtfire and Tim Kawakami needs to stop wearing his pajama tops on CSN. Bonus Kawakami: He's got that weird Al Micheal's thing going on where you can't tell which direction his hair is combed.

    5. YIKES at least spell his last name correctly Christine

  2. Good for her.

He raped that girl. If he is convicted by society, so be it. This story is terrible, and Florida 's handling of it worse.

I'm a male, I like football and am glad she said it.

    1. 9:20, I too am a heterosexual male, and a football fan, and agree that Winston is likely a rapist. It is clear that the legal process has been tampered with to protect the thug. (and yes, he's a thug. He has been busted on lesser charges related to other crimes)

    2. You people are all sick, the girl has changed her story completely 3 times. Yet you all KNOW he did it. The NYT posted a guy in Tallahassee for a year and he wrote a hit piece full of half truths and lies.

  3. Calling a spade a spade, just not a convicted one. Good for her.

    1. Calling a "what" a "what"????? Hmm

    2. Rich, do you really need to publish racist epithets?

    3. Spade. Or as the Brits say, a bloody shovel.

So, Mr. Thought Police John Williams, it IS OK to use that phrase for people. Or are you saying that we can only use that term when it comes to caucasians?

    4. You people with your "it's racist, it's racist" bullshit sound like the peasants in Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

      "She's a witch! Burn her!"

Fucking idiots… you all probably think the word "niggardly" is racist too. Look it up dimwits.

    5. Who doesn't enjoy a good racist epithet from time to time?

Blacks do it openly, Mexicans do it all the time in Spanish, Asians do it but you don't understand Vietnamese Korean or Chinese so you don't understand they're making comments about you, the "white devil" standing right in front of them. When a Caucasian does it its the end of the world! Kill him, ruin him, etc etc.

  4. Bill Cosby would call that "innuendo". His are from the actual victims.

  5. Does Ann also root against the "woman beater" Ray McDonald and the 49ers?

  6. @Christine and 9:20
    Well-said.
    @9:24
    Sneaky but amusing.

  7. Sure seems like Lieberman likes to accuse everyone else of being sheep when there really isn't much for them to complain about.

  8. Woopi Goldberg was lit up by the public for her defense of Cosby last week. People in the streets rush up to her and call her "Apologist for the rapist" she said today.

What gets me? NBC went all out to hide Cosby's criminal acts, and so did many corporations.
Now? They have no need for him. All that mattered was dollars.

  9. Indignant Lieberman. What is he supposedly standing up for this time?

  10. One more about Annie- when Monte Poole wrote that article saying title9 was costing men sports millions for the benefit of woman sports that nobody is interested in.
I wrote about that on my chronblog back then. Not one female sports writer said peep to Monte.
Yet,4-5 years later Damon Bruce said the same thing..he was deservedly scorched AND womancotted, for awhile.
    What does that all say?

  11. What does that all say?

That Stan, as usual, has no idea of what he's trying to say and yet blathers on anyway, as if anyone would be interested in the aberrant thought fragments bouncing around in is troubled mind.

  12. Speaking of stepping in it... what the hell was going on at channel 2 last night? The Ken Wayne piece of Dennis Richmond was a total mess. The volume kept dropping out, it was as though the story wasn't finished or something. Do they have interns running the place or something?

  13. Maybe she meant "therapist" but thumb slipped on space button.

  14. Radnich- who KRON pays big bucks, ignored the playoffs and world series- we already went over that, right?. Today,he's at some motorsports show for knbr. Not one interview of a Giant, but today he's going to talk about the newest Kia to Chauncy.
KRON might need a new News Director.
btw- He admits the motorshow hasn't opened yet. Nobody to boo him I would infer- lol.

  15. I've never been a fan of Ann Killion's writing. Her opinions and writing style often come across as sanctimonious and condescending. She almost never makes me think about the subject in a new and unusual way. I liken her to the Chronicle's version of Lowell Cohn. OK, maybe she's not as bad as Lowell. But she constantly takes personal shots at people, and that makes it hard for me to take her seriously as a journalist. This is another example of that behavior. Its crass. I'm surprised that its been largely ignored by the local media.

  16. It was a typo. She meant therapist.

  17. Sounds like she wants to ape Hannibal Burress in outing Bill Cosby. She should call out FSU Admin.
