    1. You're joking, right? You don't see "Labels - comedy, Joan Rivers, RIP"?? You don't listen - ever - to the news? You don't recognize the photo? (altho it is an old one). Join this life................

    3. "You don't recognize the photo? Join this life..............."

It's obvious (well, maybe not to you) that 1:19 was being sarcastic and could not care less.

    1. I'm betting Johnny Carson and Ed McMahon didn't show up at the Pearly Gates, if that's where she or any of that trio ended up. She sucked.

    2. Johnny Carson was an asshole. Ed McMahon I don't know too much about.

Johnny had a bad case of little man syndrome.

    3. Really? At least he earned his money with confidence, power and consistancy. I'd say, faults and all, Carson had a good run.

    2. In his tribute to Robin Williams, Letterman mentioned that he was one of the few people who had the power to drive up the ratings on late night shows, as fair-weather viewers would tune in just to see him. That was certainly true for me.

Now Rickles is about the only one in that category. I don't expect anything fresh or exceptionally funny, but I tune in because I think it might be the last time I see him.

  5. Joan Rivers made jokes on national t.v. about my t.v. news federal lawsuit..She made my lip tremble, and I nearly boo hoo hooed. Then I met her at a radio station and we hit it off. She flew me back to New York to guest on her daytime talk show. We had a blast. The genius of her art was that she went after absolutely everybody of any prominence, herself most predictably. She was very kind to me, and made me appreciate the value of laughing at yourself. Thank you Joan...life well-lived!

    1. Why is it always, Marsha, Marsha, Marsha?

    2. Joan had countless plastic surgeries that made her look like a freak (and perhaps ultimately killed her).

Too bad Christine couldn't make Joan appreciate the value of accepting yourself as you age.

    3. Well certainly multiple surgeries of any type where general anaesthesia is required have serious risks . Apparently, she was undergoing an endoscopic, exploratory procedure to check for chord nodes. Most likely, she was in a state short of general anaesthesia. She may also have had a-fib, which is a risk factor whatever your age. I begrudge no one, male or female, any of these cosmetic procedures, especially if they are on camera at age 81. I don't think she had to "accept the value" of sagging flesh. She was an entertainer, not a doctor, lawyer, journalist or housewife. What's remarkable about her life, among other things is the fact that she was meeting a schedule harder than most 40 year olds in the biz and very successfully. The local ABC affiliate her in Sacto aired some video from our interview in 1991. I have to tell you, I wouldn't have wanted her to be something she wasn't.. She had no identity crises and "accepted " herself quite fully. She may have been a "freak" to you, but she was more telegenic( and yes, by design, over the top) than most 81 year olds, by far. She accepted the fact that she wanted her upholestery redone. It fit her persona. Remember, some of her funniest pokes were at herself. She remarked how everyone in Hollywood has plastic surgery, but never admits it.
I"m glad she was unconscious for her final act. All in all, a pretty neat way to go.

    4. Yes, Joan at 81 was touring the country doing stand up.Wow. Unbelievable energy.

"More telegenic than most 81 year olds." is certainly an understatement. Most people at that age have a few wrinkles on the face. Nobody is supposed to look like that at their age.

She admitted in interviews with Howard Stern that she is addicted to surgery and is insecure with her appearance ala Michael Jackson.

But plastic surgeons have told me that a person should have, at the most, no more than two facelifts in their lifetime. Anything beyond that poses health risks (including facial muscle paralysis).

She did have an identity crisis.

  6. I rather appreciated Weintraub's segment on Rivers the other night when he was playing clips from Johnny Carson. At least he's not scared to appeal to the "old listeners!"

  7. Tragic. Feel sorry for her daughter.

  8. She was obnoxious and overrated and it amazes me that people found her funny. She made plenty of money and had plenty of fame, so how can you feel badly for someone who enjoyed 81 years of life? And I never understood why the woman insisted on having so many face lifts. Very sad commentary on her confidence level. To even make a slight comparison to the late Robin Williams is absurd. He had more talent in his little toenail than she had in her entire life.
