Ann Killion on Ray McDonald and the 49ers; Sports Media Column on What Everyone's Talking About.

I'm not a big fan of Ann Killion but I think she nailed it pretty well on what everyone in the sports world is talking about.

Sports-talk shows, national and local.

  1. The NFL has turned into the NAL: National Arrogance League. Long ago, they eclipsed baseball as America's national pastime. No sport can rival the NFL in popularity (that includes auto racing, which isn't a sport). The 49ers are prime example of this arrogance. Before Trent Baalke and Jim Harbaugh took over, previous management always looked for good character people who could play. The foundation was growing. However, now the 49ers resemble the "Mean Machine" -- full of thugs. Allowing Ray McDonald to play would erase all of the good news the team has created over the new stadium. It will also further the gangsta and hoodlum personality of this team. Look at the quarterback. Tats all over the place. Acts like a bad ass in postgame pressers. Dresses like he's from East Palo Alto or east San Jose. Wears a black jersey in practice. No class. None. You can sugarcoat it all you want. He's the epitome of thug. The 49ers used to win with class. Sadly, those days are gone. Kinda like the local radio/TV market.

    1. You, sir are a complete and utter idiot. Go hang with that root-tv racist in Danville where everybody looks like you. Freaking dinosaur.

    2. Not everyone is into the ghetto trash culture that is immersed with the NFL these day. I could give a shit if Kaepernik gave out his press conference in a tutu, if he's about the bottom line, and coming up with ways to lay a beat down his opponent then all is not lost. BTW Danville is a hell of a community, a lot better than some communities that are strewn with bottom feeders, but I guess I'm a racist.

  2. Remember the Duke lacrosse case. Those guys were dragged through the mud and crucified before we learned the case wasn't as it was initially portrayed. Everyone should get off their high horse and let the case work through the process. If he indeed did what is alleged, then ban him from the NFL. I have no problem with a zero tolerance policy, but not a public lynching this early in the case before all the facts are known.

    1. Same thing happened to rookie RB Carlos Hyde when he was at Ohio State. He was accused of assault and got suspended for four games. Then a video of the incident showed that he wasn't involved with the assault. He was punished even though he was innocent.

I do agree that the 49ers have become an out-of-control team of thugs. These types of incidents happen all too often, and Harbaugh, Baalke and York do nothing about it other than issue rote PR statements about how that kind of behavior isn't accepted. The players have seen that those statements are meaningless.

  3. First of all Ann Killion doesnt know and never will know, that any man of color accused by any woman- will be arrested. That's a fact. If Kapernick had been in that hotel room when the police and a groggy woman pointed a finger at him and said "He drugged me"..kap would have been arrested. No doubt at all.
Now, Old McDonald might have harm...but he's not convicted,or even charged with a crime. Yet Ann- who once wrote that Ben "The groper" Rothlesburger was a "rapist" and then two years later the 49ers signed a real rapist Cox...and she said nothing.
If McDonald is convicted...then let the penaltys fall- ALL of them. But a black man/of color arrested?....let me tell you -Law enforcement CHOOSES who they enforce the law on.

    1. What does that have to do with McDonald. Seriously, This isn't about race pal. This is about right and wrong.

    2. And its wrong to punish without a conviction- right? That's the long and short of it.
Punishing just because your accused is a slippery slope.

    3. Now I remember why Stan was banished in the first place, he's the guy who drags race into all his unhinged comments.

The argument comparing McDonald to Kaepernick is particularly idiotic since both are men of color. Also, Ray Rice, another black man, got off with a slap on the wrists after he beat his fiancee unconscious.

Sran, please go back to wherever you were hiding and take you nonsensical arguments with you.

  4. Didn't that Raiders kicker get busted for rape, false imprisonment etc. then another time found with the 'date rape' drug? Seem to remember it happening a few years ago.
How was that sort of thing handled back then?

  5. Ann Killion lives for opportunities to write "no duh" columns like this while taking the moral high ground.

Seen this song and dance from her (and Kawakami) way too many times to be intrigued.

    1. That's their job, do you really want to prevent both of them from doing their job, to report on the 49ers?!

I don't get whiner fans, all they expect & want written about the 49ers is rainbows, and lollipops...smh?!

  6. Fuck due process. SJPD and the DA's office are both investigating. If charges are brought then McDonald should be punished by the NFL. Due process just means that he can hire a high priced legal team, string the trial out for years, at which time he has retired with another few million in his pocket. Or what if during this due process crap he cops a guilty plea to let's say a lesser crime which results in jail time during the off season but in the NFL is not a punishable offense? With money and enablers these guys can game the system pretty easily. If McDonald had done that to Harbaugh's wife what would have happened? The fact that it was Harbaugh's wife and just another woman makes the world of difference.

  7. Domestic violence laws are highly politicized… the intentional violence that used to be called "wife beating" accounts for a small percentage of today's arrest cases, a great many of which consist of arms bruised due to necessary restraint (spouse self-defense, the prevention of self-destructive behavior, etc.). That said, if there are strangulation-type marks on the woman's neck, that's a far more serious issue.

If the circumstances of McDonald's case are extenuating, his lawyer should make the details known asap.

  8. He has only been arrested and not charged. Should the 49ers team been taken away from Eddie DeBartolo when he was investigated for rape?

  9. On the eve of the 49er's season,I Stan, dedicate this song to Jim Harbaugh:
    "Ballad of the Green Berets"
"One hundred men we'll test today, only one will wear the Green Beret..fighting soldiers who fight all night and day...A young wife grieves her loss..Before he left, he wrote these words
"Put these wings on my young sons's chest, make him grow up to be one of America's best"...one hundred men we'll test today, one only one will the wear the Green Beret..The Green Beret..

    Lets play some Football!!
