Ronn Owens

Many of you have asked me about my reaction to Ronn Owens coming out publically to disclose he has Parkinson's disease.

I wish him well.

What? Would I wish him anything else? Please.

First off, I knew about this for years and held off because I wasn't a hundred percent certain.

And what would be accomplished by me going public? His personal life and professional life are separate. I would hope most of you sort of get it.

Just because one is critical about one's professional behavior has nothing to do with health and well-being.

Again, I wish him and his family the best.

  1. My first thought when I heard was "I bet Angela Alioto told him to come out publicly since his contract is coming up".
Disease or not, the guy is a weasel.

    1. Do you know Ronn personally????

  2. I was going to say (a) hope he has Angela on speed dial (b) does he think Cumulus will treat him better than Ralph was treated?

Seriously, I wish him well and it explains a lot.

Really Rich? Then why is it that you so frequently raise personal issues when attacking professionals you dislike?

    Brilliantly perceptive.

  5. call me cynical, but the timing is very suspicious....just as his contract his up.
clearly, he leaked and planted the story to weigand, so it was a coordinated action

I wish him well, nonetheless, he is a douche

  6. I am glad you addressed it, Rich. I was going to ask you during a 415 Answers session if you didn't. Well put, too. I wish Ronn years of good health !

  7. You knew all about this condition, yet you rained all that muddy criticism on him anyway? Rich! That aint nice., You may need to sit in the corner for a spell.

    1. I assume you're being tongue-in-cheek, if not, no, I don't intend to stop criticism as long as he remains on the radio.

    2. 12'20 PM....Si Senor, I AM being tongue in cheek. Life is different when you become a public figure. It is a bargain that one agrees to, so I hear. I just had a case of The Sads about out Pal Ron Owens. That can't be easy to know that the way you make a living is quickly and literally eroding.

  8. This is an "are you or aren't you" question . If stories get around to media from other trade media and you, are you a reporter or not after the fact? The Chron got the story directly, and it looks like gang tackling after the fact. If you couldn't report it first, doing it last and getting credit is questionable.

    1. I don't need "credit" because if that were the case, I would have reported it but held back in interest of his privacy.

He chose to come forward and that's it. Whatever else you're just looking to pick a fight and I'm not interested.

  9. Owens is pulling a Ralph Barbeieri. He is saying play nasty with me and you get Angela! He is looking for a big PAYDAY!

    1. Others are making this connection too, but there is a big difference. Ralph was fired with a contract in effect, therefore he had some meat behind his lawsuit. Cumulus can simply wait until Owens' contract is nearly up and let him know they do not intend to renew. No Angela, no lawsuit and no payday. Just gone.

  10. Funny, the first thing I thought of when I read it in my local paper was how will Rich address this? I too wish him the best..

  11. Ronn is a public figure. Would information be held back if the mayor end up with a serious illness and the press found out? Think not. If a blog reports, report. The blog is for all to see or why post news at all? Speculation is different. This wasn't speculation..

    1. He's not the mayor.

And speculation on person's medical condition when you're not 100% certain is a route I always take. Most cases at least.

  12. I don't see what anyone has to say about this - Mr. Owens decided it was time to disclose his condition, for whatever reason, end of story.

I didn't care for the man or his show, but Parkinson's is a hard diagnosis to have to deal with, so he'll get no brickbats from me.

  13. I have listened to Owens since the Day Jim Eason called Ronn at his Atlanta station to welcome him....but I stopped listening to him, because of his growing pretentious character, again he was great when he came aboard, again the whole station was great from the Day's of Ira Blue, Russ Couglin, Owen Spann, Dunbar & Wygant etc...something started to happen....with Burnie, then Taliaferro etc...they just lost me stop listening all together by the 1990's, but it was a great way to learn English, as it is my 3rd language and no I did not have an ESL program available , thankfully, you have kept me informed about the toilet bowl situation at KGO, just remembered that an old girlfriend of 10 years did a stint at the old Cap cities albeit was the TV side, do not recall any scuttlebutt at KGO ,she seemed very happy, she had a great expense account as I was treated for dinner and drinks at the nicest locals and tradeouts at all sorts of hotels etc, and remember Gold Passport tradeouts at Macy's, wow, actually it was a blast for a son of immigrants to have a Blond MILF(older) as a girlfriend. and she was HOTT, especially her Magazine and newspaper spreads

  14. Lieberman's phoney claim about wishing Ronn and his family the best is utterly unbelievable given how much he detests the guy.

Rich is fueled by his intense resentment of Owens, Radnich, etc. Gratuitously claiming that it's nothing personal is ridiculous and not the slightest bit crdible.

  15. Rich, I saw him walk off the stage that night at the Commonwealth and knew there was something seriously wrong with him. I didn't think he looked healthy and my gut instincts are valid about 90 percent of the time. You knew I was on to something because of the way you responded.

  16. Ronn is setting himself up for a PAYDAY. I like that his doctor was a guest on his show. Ronn you did everything right. Who is your lawyer?

  17. Rich, you continually bash Spencer Hughes and refer to him by his real name but I don't think I've ever read the words "Ronald Lowenstein" in your blog. What gives?

    ReplyDelete
  18. This is a stupid comment, Rich is constantly bashing Ronn, and I'm pretty sure he has referred to Ronn's last name several times. When Rich don't like someone he looses all objectivity, he likes Michael Savage (for reasons that escapes me), thus rarely if ever mention Savage's real last name, Weiner. Many people in showbiz change their name, it is a non issue as far as I'm concerned, Owens (Lowenstein) Savage (Weiner) who cares, Lauren Bacall was born Betty Perksy (might not be totally correct about last name, but close) did anyone every bash her for changing her name?
