Frosty OUT at Talk 910

  ...he gone!

Told his listeners at the close of Friday's show, "bye."

My question: Does anyone care? Seriously now.

Skinny: Both Clear Channel and The Snowman reportedly departed amicably.

Like, the ratings were.not.that.good. and so, get your ass outta here.

  1. This station needs to clean house. The morning morons are awful. Frosty was stuck in the good old days and sucked. This Joel and whoever guy suck as bad as both the shows I just mentioned. I have always liked Gil Gross, but his show isn't that great. He needs to take calls to make it interesting. HELLO!!! Gil needs to take calls again.

    1. I agree. Gill needs to take calls. It's talk radio!

    2. Gil's not allowed to take calls otherwise he would but if he did it'd likely be the same 7 or 8 csllers everyday like HB from Oakland.

    3. I agree. Callers would make Gil's show much better. When he took calls at KGO his show was much better.

Cory and Joel are impossible to listen to. A&G are too far to the right for me to ever listen to them. I won't miss Frosty. I have a feeling they are going to give us another host no one will listen to.
Why not 3 hours of John Rothmann?

    4. I have been exploring stations out of the area via I Heart Radio. That's fine here at my desk and computer, but when I am in the car I have to listen to something over the air. I will still listen to Ronn Owens, but then my only choice in the car is 3 hours of news until Gil comes on. I'm with the rest of you. Callers would make his show better. I never listen to radio in the evening and don't care who is on.

    5. I will miss Frosty but if they give Gil more time, that will be ok with me. A&G are occasionally interesting, but often I can't take them for more than a half hour. Corey and Joel sound like nice guys but their sophomoric blather wears on me. I can't listen to them for more than five minutes. John Rothman would be a VERY strong draw for me. While I am at it, I want to point out how VERY annoying it is when Lloyd YELLS his trademark "HELLOOOO" whatever city. When I hear him taking a deep breath, BANG I hit my FM button and switch to listen to KQED. If their program is interesting, I usually leave it there for hours. Same thing when I hear the Cars for Kids ad come on. Same thing when I hear that grating, abrasive voice of the woman who does the car shopping commercial. Cannot stand that voice.

    6. First of all, A&G are not too far right. They're ostracized by Republicans for not being right enough. Also, they're hilarious, and the show is fun to listen to. They're not going anywhere. Their show is incredibly popular.
I liked Frosty. I liked Gil Gross, too, but lately haven't really been able to get into it.

  2. Where does he go now?
Where was he broadcasting from for the last year, was he in the Bay Area?
Would'nt be "funny" if he took Sussman's place.
Frosty seemed like a nice guy, and saw the world very clearly, but his delivery seemed a bit forced most the time. The fellow who took Barbara Simpson's place has the same tendency to yell all of the time. I can't sustain my extreme OUTRAGE for three or four hours straight. That would'nt be natural for me at least. I like talkers who can speak to us in a normal conversational tone,
most of the time. I know sometimes you have to point fingers, name names and purposely kick up a little dust.

  3. Gil talked about it on his show, said it was totally Frosty's decision, something to do with a house he still owns in LA (which he had rented out to Mickey Rooney), anyway I don't see that his rating would have anything to do with it (take that with a grain of salt) I mean does ANYONE on 910 have good ratings? Certainly not Joel and Corey, this begs the question, who will they put on instead? Give Gil another hour and Joel and Corey another 2 hours? Or just replay the best of Frosty, or Armstrong and Getty? Let us know Rich whenever you know something. I don't have much hope for a decent show based on their choices the last year or so. They wouldn't actually have the sense to maybe offer the spot to John Rothmann, or do rotating host's with John and Ed Baxter and others? Nah, would be too much to hope for. Sure miss Rothmann and his knowledge of the Middle East these days.

  4. Too bad, he seemed like a pleasant enough guy and his show was listenable, though not super interesting. Any word what will take his place?

  5. Does this mean its Gil's last day too?

  6. Maybe they'll put Tom Sullivan back on live noon to three. He's better than anything else they've had during the day. When I listened I found Frosty interesting enough, actually easier to listen to than Gil G. is now. Maybe it was HIS decision to leave. Maybe HE would have preferred a different format (more listener interaction). It's gotta be hard doing all the talking yourself for 3 hours. Last time I listened he was looking for an affordable new apt in SF. Maybe he just gave up & will return to LA.

    1. That is what Gil said happened. As for Tom Sullivan, he is already on 960 from 7 to 10 p.m. a little diversity would be nice. Hannity is on 960 and 650 (Sacramento) in the same time slot, from noon to 3 p.m.. there is not much too choose from, Savage, Hannity and Joel and Corey, if you are don't feel like listening to 3 hours of mostly Obama bashing, Savage does talk about other things, and sometime I listen, but for the most part he is just to negative to listen to for 3 hours, there is not much too choose from, as pointed out here Joel and Corey is beyond boring.

    2. Gil seemed awfully gabby about Frosty's departure. Most the time, you can barely get radio peers to publically speak about each other. Remember how ksfo went on immediate lock down after Barbara Simpson left? Maybe knowing Barbara was (rightfully) in a snit after events occurred, made them afraid to say boo about her from that point.......I notice 910 has been playing "The Best Of Armstrong & Getty" all this week..........My take away is #1. I enjoyed hearing the shows. #2. I was so happy they played shows that included Domenic. B., I miss Domenic's wit and comments. I wish they could mend enough fences to invite the Dom back on the show , not every weekday, I quickly add, as his whining can get tedious and almost indistinquished from his former friend Victor's Complaint of the Day. I would like to hear Domenic on the air about one or two regularly scheduled days of the week. I am fine hearing less of the producer Michaelangelo, who, to be honest, is a bit of a bore. His name is the most interesting thing about him.

    3. I enjoyed Frosty on my lunch break but he'd probably be a bit much if I had to listen to the entire show. He's miles better than A&G. I don't know in what idiotic mind a Libertarian Goat Farmer would be appealing to the Liberal Tech Savvy Bay Area. I can barely stand them for the 10 minute ride to work in the morning. Whatever programming genius thought this up really needs to find a new line of work.

    3. I think a lot of people would beg to differ.

  8. It's not AM dying a slow death it's the lousy talk show hosts. I don't know about the rest of you responding but I can't hack Rush, Mark Levin, Hannity, and the nother screaming nut at noon on KSFO--his name eludes me at the moment. All progressive talk show hosts are gone from the bay area so I don't listen to the radio anymore--strictly stations from all over the Country--online.

    1. You miss Democrap talk? Listen to NPR, lib.

    2. AM IS dying. Regional class stations, such as 910, are falling prey to buzzing and increased noise in the atmosphere that we have today that didn't exist in the 1960s. Listening to lower-powered stations means the station competes with noise from light dimmers, CPU clocking devices, drive motor servos, high-pressure sodium lamp starters, just to name a few. AM is dying from all this cacophony of noise.

    3. AM has been dead for years - not just since 2011. It is now decomposing. Cumulus has killed talk radio. Clear Channel / Premier, has merely kept it on life-support. Others are slaughtering it to a tortuous death.

    4. A slow death? Are you kidding? You've not been hiding under a rock, have you? AM has been dead since 1983 and talk kept it alive until the mid 2000s - then, it started to decompose at a quick rate. Stations like KCBS, and thee aren't many of them, last because they are good at what they do and will keep up to date, like with an FM simulcast. The AM audience dies in droves each and every day.

  9. Wouldn't it be funny if they gave Gil all of Frosty's time slot? We would have six hours of Gil monologues daily. It is so sickly demented and torturous I'd love to see it happen!

    1. Unfortunately that would be 7 hours. Worse would be 5 hours of corey and joel.

  10. 910 is a disaster...and the worst of the worst are Joel and Cory... pure torture...no one is listening to that garbage. As for Gil??? he's been toast for yearssss. Truly a pathetic talent pool they put on the air...sad.

  11. I only listen to 910 when John Rothmann is filling in. I like talk radio, but not these soliloquy timeslots. Why do they think folks appreciate this format? It makes no sense!

  12. In that photo, Frosty looks like a Golden Age of Rock musician on tour.
Lots of blue and red background lights, lots of white steamy Freon, billowing and swirling above the floors of the auditorium. He could be part of the new Moody Blues or the New Association. "Frosty sings "Everyone Knows It's Wendy".

    1. I think he actually was a rock musician at some time in his life. And I think these comments are on his website which makes all these "profound" comments so much hot air.
The radio in this area needs a program that would be like KCBS in the early 80's. Almost the perfect mix of news and newsmagazine segments, a consumer type show, a Narsi David hour, and some late night talk shows.
      For now try John Batchelor.

  14. Most the local stations need some adjusting, from my point of view anyway. It's saturday at 11.30am. I just switched from 810am where Matt Ray is on. Matt is nice, but somewhat colorless. I don't know how to describe it. Matt would be good at reading the news. He has that strong, standard kind of delivery. But what sounds strong and standard in soundbites, can sound rather flat, two dimenisonal and without flavor for a lengthy conversation. Everybody has a learning curve, so maybe he will loosen up a bit over time. I turn to 910 to hear an extremely prissy announcer on what I believe is a cooking show. I'm not 'phobic' ,he has knowledge and genuine enthusiasm for the topic, but his delivery kind of grates on me after a short while. Everything becomes a sex joke. I feel like that garden plant. What's it called? Oh yes, The Wandering Jew.

  15. Just went to 910;s website and checked their program schedule. On Monday in Frosty's time slot they have John and Jeff (except in the picture Jeff looks like Corey's twin) I think I know who there are, not impressed. On Tuesday I believe it is Ed Baxter, he is must better than all the day time hosts on in the daytime. I think Wednesday it is a guest host, and the rest of the week John and Jeff, interesting to see how this plays out, but I have little hope they will choose someone who is interesting and listenable for 3 hours, they seem hell bent of boring their listeners to death. I know Corey is the program director, perhaps he thinks boring hosts will his show with Joel sound better. For the most part the station is a disaster, one big bore after another.

    1. John & Jeff are from Southern CA and did about 6 weeks of fill-in on KGO a month or so ago. Pretty low key then, midnight to two, but were pretty crazy in the 90s, until they quit radio. Have been doing fill in for a couple of years. Don't know if this is permanent or not. Show is not much to hear and they'd like to join the Clear Channel / Premier stable of "new" edge talk talent.

      Delete
    2. I listened to them a little, didn't hear much "new" edge, they followed the Joel and Corey boring format, talking about pretty much nothing of interest, perhaps they are a tad better than Joel and Corey. That foursome make Armstrong and Getty almost sound like Gene Burns.

    3. I listened a little to John and Jeff, they didn't sound very "new" edge to me. They followed the format of Joel and Corey, talking about pretty much nothing of real interest, jumping from subject to subject. That foursome (John and Jeff, Joel and Corey) makes Armstrong and Getty almost sound like Gene Burns.

    4. They need less talk back and forth. I was surprised they took calls, but I like that they did. They didn't take a lot and maybe those were the only calls they received as the public isn't use to calling in to 910 yet

  16. So glad Frosty is gone, that man was a moron. All he did was rant about "kids today, they should be bullied and like it, women shouldn't be offended if someone calls them honey, people shouldn't want more than minimum wage, its their fault they're poor" ect ect. I'm a centrist person but when I'd listen to him, I'm became a frothing at the mouth liberal!

All this ranting from a childless, wifeless "the 60's were the best" man was just too much. Now listening to Joel and Corey has just turned me into a zombie. I suppose it my fault being a person under 40 listening to talk radio.

Should stick to Buzzfeed and Gawker.. I suppose, probably for the best considering that's where all these hosts get their show topics from anyways.

  17. KGO was fabulous as newstalk station. I miss the Len Tillem format, those that came over to 910 were a saving grace. Frosty was OK but JC, can't stand Joel and Corey, they add nothing to life and edification, I shudder when I hear them speak.. Yes I agree, the daytime info/call in info stations are gone. Sad. I don't need 24/7 news stations, I love to hear the call in people opinions. Someone please find the need and fill it! Someone pls come up with a new station/format to fill our needs as listeners.

  18. Ed Baxter takes over Frosty's time slot? KKSF has the #1 and #2 doofusis in all of talk radio scheduled back to back. I mean really, as if Gill Gross constant chortling, guffawing and stupid voices weren't enough - Ed Baxter? Good grief! There's barley a sentence that doesn't make my eyes roll. Some people just wont go away.

  19. I liked Frosty quite a lot--he has a dramatic quality that captures the imagination of those who have one. I love the Armstrong & Getty show for the same reason. I don't want to hear a lot of callers unless the host does a poor job, and that was not the case with Frosty.

(I cannot stand the evening Alan Colmes show--he will not let a caller who *might* not entirely echo Colmes' own agenda even finish a sentence. I have to turn him off. In the past, so-called conservatives were usually the ones characterized as rude/aggressive/belligerent bullies, but Colmes owns that all to himself these days. I'd even rather hear that crazy olld geezer who calls regularly finish a thought now and then, than to hear Colmes cut in to shout him down and snicker at him. Colmes has a soap box and no one is going to hint at partial disagreement. He is also so incredibly trite, framing everything as racially motivated unless it parrots himself; I read him as a very stupid man, and I'm glad his stay on the soap box will be short lived in the larger scheme of things.)

Anyway Frosty had his moments; I had to shake my head and stifle out-loud laughs about the showdog and Officer Vic. Frosty, you'll land somewhere; it was a difficult time slot for high ratings anyway; do your thing because you do it well. And again I love the Armstrong and Getty show too--all their hilarious over-stated irreverence is tongue-in-cheek, and yet (although it sounds crazy) they also manage to get some level-headed sense out now and again.

  20. I agree that talk show talent is thin at 910.Gil was very good on 810 with phone in guests but when he has to entertain by himself it gets hard to listen to so I usually dont.Cory and Joel put me to sleep.Nice guys but no more interesting than any two guys you find on the street..I liked Frosty and I think he would have been better taking calls.Armstrong and Getty I like alot they blast Republicans and Democrats alike they can think and criticize over party lines and compliment the same way I think they have alot of libertarian views..Refreshing
