Hey, Big Coach John Madden Is Lighting Up Fireworks in Dublin On The 4th of July Even Though Fire People Say No-No; (KCBS Audio); Boom!

California and its people are suffering one of the worst droughts ever.

And fire fighters everywhere in the state are in full anguish over 4th of July fireworks that could become troublesome for this parched state.

I'm not talking about the public displays...more the neighborhood block parties where people shoot off "safe and sane" fireworks, just like John Madden. (Take a listen on his KCBS show).

I'm not crucifying the Big Coach, just what with all the fire people saying these activities are prone to cause house fires, I find it somewhat amusing and possibly scary.

BOOM, YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!

  1. "I'm not crucifying the Big Coach"
But Rich sure is trying to.

Hey Rich, when you knock someone, own it. Don't try to avoid responsibility for what you write.

    1. Cool. Yeah, for shits and giggles, can you light your own house on fire? And when the neighbor's houses are threatened, call them wusses. And when those wussy firemen show up, call them a bunch of pussies and send them away. Toughen up, California! Let your shit burn!

  3. There are California cities that allow fireworks, and it does not appear to be a problem year after year.

  4. The only time to be afraid is if a fire actually starts (and it won't). Stop living in a world of fear.

    1. 8:54pm: Stop living in a world of fear? Fires won't start? Here's a bit of uncomfortable reality for you: "In 2011, fireworks caused an estimated 17,800 reported fires, including 1,200 total structure fires, 400 vehicle fires, and 16,300 outside and other fires. These fires resulted in an estimated eight reported civilian deaths, 40 civilian injuries and $32 million in direct property damage. " Source: National Fire Protection Association. In other words, your not just wrong...it's downright foolish to ignore these facts!

    2. "In 2007-2011, U.S. fire departments responded to an estimated annual average of 230 home structure fires that began with Christmas trees. Home Christmas tree fires caused an average of six civilian deaths, 22 civilian injuries, and $18.3 million in direct property damage per year" Source: National Fire Protection Association. If it's foolish to ignore the facts, then we should ban Christmas trees and decorations, too. Oh, and the NFPA says "The number of home cooking fires on Thanksgiving Day was three times the national average of fires per day in 2009", so nix Thanksgiving, too.

    3. What's missing in your analysis is the denominator. Out of how many events did these mal-outcomes occur? What is the probability 0.5%, 0.1%, 0.001%? If you don't complete the analysis, you are condemned to an irrational life of fear.

    4. There were 230 home fires that began with Christmas trees. How many total American houses have Christmas trees? I'm going to estimate 40,000,000 homes. If you take our population of 300,000,000 and divide it by 3 persons per home, that's 100,000,000 homes. Now if you consider that 40% of homes have Christmas trees, that's 40,000,000 homes. That numerator of 230 homes seems large when you don't consider the denominator. When you do, however, that's a fraction equal to 0.000006. As "odds" or probability, that's 0.0006%. It's not going to happen to you, in other words. Those odds are starting to become like lottery odds. Complete the analysis and you won't succumb to a world of irrational fear.

  5. Oh, Rich, BIG GOOF tonight on KTVU. Not on the 10 O'Clock but on the Ch 36 rebroadcast at 11, which is how I usually watch it. They started their show at 11 per normal, then, after a commercial break at 11:20 or so, they came back on the air AND STARTED THE NEWSCAST FROM THE TOP AGAIN! Since commercials are on a timer, at 11:30, at the time for their next break, the commercial just kicked in, cutting the show off in mid-story. Then, after the 11:30 they came back with new newscast again. (On another note, Deborah Villalon's package about an Oakland fire also just cut off after a bite, as though the editor never finished it. This happened BOTH times, so it had nothing to do with the 11:20 repeat goof.)

Looks like the morons are still in charge. Ho Lee Fuk again!

Hope Fox saves the receipt from this sale. They may want to return their new purchase for something more useful, like Q-Tips.

    1. Hahaha. I was listening to either KGO or KCBS this week when the female news anchor announced that due to the World Cup the San Jose Sharks were selling more tickets ... followed by the president of the Earthquakes discussing their great sales. Soccer, hockey they're the same .... right?

  6. Fireworks are LEGAL in Dublin. Just gotta light them in a public park and no bottle rockets or mortars. So Big John can light all the crap he wants on the 4th.
