SouthBay NBC Bay Area Dynamic Duo: Raj Mathai and Janelle Wang Anchors Away; Wednesday PM Finale

Lead anchor, Raj Mathai and fellow NBC Bay Area anchor, Janelle Wang.

On the mark, get set, go:

They read well. They have a crisp look and have begun developing a tangible asset: on-air chemistry.
Sure, it's rather superficial, isn't that a TV News constant? It is, but here's the difference: they both like each other and appear actually pretty happy.

That's not such a given in today's atmosphere.

Give 'em credit.

And they should extend Mathai because he's a hot property down there whether you like it or not--he reads good, #1, and #2, it's not his fault he has GQ looks for which he gets a lot of flack.

And Janelle? Rapid-fire improvement in every sense of the word.

  1. They are both keepers. Maybe Stan will think they are too brown ...

    1. Stan probably thought Idi Amin was too white.

So is the plastic surgery anchorwoman is gone?

    2. Please Stan, share your wit and wisdom on this topic. Do you think minorities are sufficiently represented in the local media? Also, any fresh thoughts about Gary Radnich?

    3. Stan, please enlighten us with your thoughts on this topic. We are not sure where you stand.

  2. I never really cared for Raj myself. I also never really turn on KNTV anymore because in my opinion they try way too hard with the "look at us were a melting pot". Fyi bay area program directors.....Chinese watch Chinese language television, Vietnamese watch Vietnamese, Latinos watch telemundo, Koreans watch Koreans......Caucasians...we watch you. Keep that in mind next time you pander.

    1. This is the most incorrect and racist comment I have ever read on here. This Bay Area raised Filipino watches ALL Bay Area ENGLISH media.

    2. I'm American, what channel am I suppose to watch?

    3. @ 5:05
You are one of the most dumbest stereotyping mother fuckers on this planet. What a waste of sperm your daddy wasted producing you.

    4. You have to love Democrats, attack attack attack a guy speaking the truth. They need to leave their little liberal bubble and see the world for what it really is. Fyi, take a trip down into San Jose and go into any Vietnamese household you'll find them watching Vietnamese language channels. The same with my Chinese neighbors. Telemundo is HUGE in the latino community of the south bay as well. Know the facts before you spew your "facts".

    5. @5:05 speaks more of the truth than these commenters will ever realize. Yell racism! Hurry up it's your go to attack! Oh wait...you libs already did....

    6. @11:46 and 11:47, how about putting a name or identity behind your "fact" comments? Oh wait, because your cowards behind a keyboard.

    7. He's right. I turn the channel often because I would rather see a newscaster of my own ethnic background. I do this in the PRIVACY of my home. My tolerance and political correctness end at MY front door. In SF we all have to kiss ass and pretend that the behavior of certain ethnic groups is not annoying or worse. I'll play the game to get paid but not on MY time.

  3. Sorry to bust in off topic here, but did you guys catch the story broken by our local "insiders" of the apparent dysfunction on the Golden State Warriors coaching staff?

Oh wait.... it wasn't our local "insiders" who broke the story. Never Mind!!

  4. No disrespect to Taj Mahal or Ms. Wong but how about the big changes at KSCO? Old fuddy duddy Charlie Friedman sounds bitter that Dave Michaels is taking his 4-7pm spot and Friedman is moving to noon-2pm. Ethan Bearman is going to KGO? Where is Rich Lieberman in all this shuffling?

    1. No disrespect to you, but you can go drink a warm glass of shut the fuck up you old fart!

    2. Dave Michaels will do just fine and deserves the shot for what he does and the hours he puts in. Friedman has been an old drag for way too long and it's time for him to leave. Bearman to KGO? Maybe he'll replace Karel (please?) or they can put Weintraub there -- it couldn't hurt.

Story about Savage yesterday is sick. Cumulus has a lot more problems in SF than playing "royalty" games. Preposterous. Can't we all just get along? Savage needs to play from home, not on Hawthorne. Leave the children alone and the Dickey's feeding him a per diem? No wonder Owens is pissed. Of course, if it were Karel, he'd demand "tea" hand delivered and a blow job every shift.

  5. Has anyone else noticed how the KNTV weekday morning team often has great wardrobe color coordination? I think Laura Garcia-Cannon is behind it. Does she have a large closet at work or does she keep a stock of Brent's ties handy to have her co-anchor wear? I've noticed that she is usually more coordinated with the men then the women that she's on the air with. Or is there a color-of-the-day scheduled published by the ND?

  6. @5:05 PM, interesting racist point of view. Me, I only try and watch Swedish-American and British-American TV anchors, such as my heritage ---- NOT.
