I didn't say the KRON 8PM newscast was the CBS Evening News but I like its straightforward approach and non-gimmicky delivery.
Part of that tone is due to KRON's lack of tools, graphics, and heady reporters, but the show, as bare bones as it is, actually works and is solid enough if you're looking for a simple, concise and snappy hour of news.
Pam Moore is rock-solid and keeps the pace moving. At times, she gives the appearance of moving too fast, but that's acknowledging "I'm at KRON, still, for gods sake", but so what, it works and it works well. Simplicity can be the greatest virtue. Sharp graphics and pictures of the Embarcadero don't necessarily make for a quality newscast, after all, it's news we want.
**More KRON cookies: I'm wondering why Aaron Pero is such a disliked schmuck --I mean, I know why based on reports of numerous assholeish acts of repeated yelling and screaming, berating reporters and making some literally cry. So I asked a popular Kronvict how does Pero get away with it? The person didn't give me a direct answer and was somewhat dismissive so I assume there's a rubic's cube of info on this whole story. Kronvicts working and non-working johns and joans, I'm assuming. have stories to tell.
**Dave Clark and Tori Campbell at KTVU's "MO2": Warm and fuzzy.
**I would hope that KGO Radio sports anchor, Rich Walcoff and his nearly 30 years at the station would have given him some protection and cover to have to be IN THE MAN CAVE! with schmucky Brian Sussman over at KSFO but I forgot it's all about the whole big happy family that is Cumulus....By the way, yo, Suss, the traffic chick is more annoying and yappy by the day. Maybe she could be outsourced permanently to The Bone and talk about meat loaf.
NOTES: The "At the End of the Day" cliché that has gone national has now been officially dethroned by the god-awful, "is going viral"--Christ!, can not one of the schmuckos just say such and such person/video/event is generating traction, has become extremely popular? I guess that would require basic common sense, which has not gone viral...No matter how much he wants to spin it, Radnich's sports show has been canned from KRON and a lot of that probably due to, A., lack of viewers, but B. and probably more accurately, ex-GM, Brian Greif's departure--it was Greif that pitched the project and when Greif split for health issues, the sports show effectively went with it...Over at the Chronicle, they, the reporters, (mostly), are bitching again, quietly--seems the new gal pal big shot is not exactly a hit in the newsroom...KNTV weatherman, Rob Mayeda: nice guy, good presentation and that's always nice...I could listen to KCBS' political analyst, Mark Sandalow for about an hour but that's just me...Tara Moriarty may not be a hit in the bowels of KTVU but I like her and that's all that counts...Frank Mallicoat over at PIX: initial impression: overrated. Actual impression: underrated and good guy too. Our very own Boston Red Sox: Mallicoat and KRON's Justine Waldman, still pursued by CNN, but I thinks she's happy in the Bay Area...KNBR was to pick up the USA hockey match in Sochi Friday but instead had to cut to a new program, "Hooked on Tacos"...Steve Bitker: Your annoying "he was 12 of 20, field" would be supremely better if you could just say, "he was 12 of 20 from the field." English language is a great commodity but it too has not gone viral...Just my opinion, I doubt Tom Tolbert takes over for Jim Barnett in the Warriors TV broadcast booth. I have no scientific proof, just a hunch...When Radnich on radio conducts an interview, he's still got it. The Jerry Lewis Raddy, meh...I again tried to listen to "Sarah and Vinnie" and got bored again. And yes, Sarah and Vinnie are feuding. One makes more money than the other, I'm guessing that could be the reason, or at least 99% of the reason...KFOG, 2014: Only the casket is missing...Darya Folsom, about $150G a year, millions by KRON standards, but she wants more money--good luck with that, ask Pero...Joe Fonzi and Fred Inglis: KTVU sports weekend warriors who think they're God's gift to the world. Not, Ditto the blond chickie host of KQED's insufferable, "Check Please", Ya know, the avocado salad was resplendent and the goat cheese dip was simply Amazing!---Oh, STFU!...KNBR picked up the USA Olympics hockey match on Friday but had to cut at the last minute to the new program, "Kate Scott Sorority Moments", which is going viral..."Breaking News" anus awards: KTVU, #1 followed closely by PIX and KGO...How sad: KTVU MO2 frequent Facebook references--"likes?" I'd prefer the fake Breaking News and Clark's scowl. OK, I'm done. Have a nice weekend and see you at the Emeryville Denny's!

Check Please is the dog fart of local TV...I can't away from it fast enough.
ReplyDeleteI find the show entertaining. They choose cool spots to eat based on the recommendations of average Joe. Honestly I prefer that than reading another Michael Bauer review. Plus Leslie's knockers are an added bonus. Why do you dislike her so much Rich? Did she turn you down for a date?
DeleteI could look at Leslie all day and all night. She's about as deep as a half a glass of water but that's okay. It's entertainment, not designed to be taken seriously.
ReplyDeleteMy wife and I are from back east and it's interesting to see who shows up on Check Please, trying to shed their east coast/mid atlantic or midwestern accents and remake themselves. Leslie is from Chicago, a complete interloper if there ever was one. I don't think she's terribly bright but has made a living from her looks for years. She'll have what I call kindred souls on her show who are doing essentially the same thing (calling themselves mom-preneurs), trying to create an income out of nothing while living beyond their means. Lafayette seems to be ground zero for this.
You are my new favorite person.
Deletecan you find out what salaries Sarah and Vinnie make? I;ve heard she makes a million a year. this sounds really high. I would be interested in knowing how much the entire alice morning crew makes. from my listening, there doesn't appear to be a feud between Sarah and Vinnie, but i have heard him make comments about her making alot more than him.
ReplyDeleteKFOG? It's freakin' over. What a joke 104.5 has become. Pull the plug already. What a waste of a signal. I can't see any agency buying that poor excuse for a station.
ReplyDeletethe 'FOG really is hanging on by a thread. such a shame. cumulitus.
ReplyDeleteNosh on this, foodie snobs:
ReplyDeleteAt the end of the day, how does that avocado salad and goat cheese dip end up?
The scary thing is I am just now going to Emeryville and will be passing that Denny's on my way to Peets.
ReplyDeleteDarya making even that amount is an abberation of good sense. She needs to realize she is a deformed slightly large fish in a small pond. What other market would she go to to make more? In Los Angeles, she would be considered an eye sore. Better take the abuse and stay there. She will be too stupid to get the irony of feeling abused and undervalued at the dump on Van Ness.
ReplyDeleteShe is an eyesore here for anyone with taste.
DeleteShe doesn't need to go to another Market. $150,000 is ok here plus, she's fucking the boss and she's got nice tits, I don't mind her.
DeleteRich, do you have any intel on when her boyfriend Aaron Pero will be let go? The station continues to sink- but now at a more rapid rate.
Delete"Ditto the blond chickie host of KQED's insufferable, "Check Please", Ya know, the avocado salad was resplendent and the goat cheese dip was simply Amazing!---Oh, STFU!"
ReplyDeleteSorry Rich, I disagree, Turn down the volume and shift your eyes southward and you'll understand.
KNBR carry hockey? Fat chance in hell. A long time ago, one of their radio hosts (who's no longer there) called hockey a cult sport. The air personality belongs in a cult...maybe that's where he went.
ReplyDeleteYou think KNBR would preempt Fatnich's standup act for hockey? What a joke.
Darya big boobs makes $150K? Seriously. That's cheap money in this market, but the way the business is going, she's doing fine. If she wants more, she could wait tables and carry drinks in her chest. That alone would be worth some tip money.
Steve Bitker is annoying period. Have a cookie and go away.
The best thing KRON did was get rid of Radnich's Thursday night time waster.
Leslie Sbrocco is proof how far you can go if you bleach your hair hooker blonde and have big knockers that you make sure to always show off. The doe-eyed stare helps too. Most men who are into her don't want no thinkin' women...
ReplyDeleteI'm married to a thinkin' woman and still say Leslie is gorgeous. Pretentious beyond descrption but gorgeous. If she went home to Chicago the locals would eat her alive. Maybe that's why she left.
DeleteLeslie Sbracco is nice, I mean, I haven't come across a chest like that in a while.
Delete"At the end of the day" is Warriors coach Mark Jackson's verbal crutch. "Going viral" has certainly lost its freshness.
ReplyDeleteWhy even waste the time talking about KRON? They're a virtual non-entity in this market, and have been ever since they lost the NBC affiliation. It's sad because 15 years ago and more, they were one of the better TV news operations in the bay area. That era has long since vanished as nit-wits like Aaron Pero, who are more suited to markets such as Eureka and Fresno were hired.
ReplyDeleteAre we talking about the same woman who's been on Check Please from the beginning? You think she looks good? Whoa. The cultural gulf is wider than I thought.
ReplyDeleteGiven the opportunity, I'd do her until I died. She's from my part of the world. We met her at one of those events KQED had on a Friday evening. She has a pretty face (skin damage from acne covered up with makeup...you can see it) and obviously well endowed up front but she's a big girl in the back. I notice they always shoot her from behind a desk and I'm sure that's the reason. Suzy Pleshette was built the same way and they never shot from the back for that reason.
DeleteSo, is everybody rooting for KFOG to go under? To be replaced by what...KGO-FM? Please. Tell me what station plays current rock music made by people who play actual instruments, write thoughtful lyrics for songs that have an actual melody. We should be thankful KFOG still exists and plays something that intelligent music lovers can appreciate. If we all want San Francisco radio to emulate what people in Sacramento get, then I hope you're happy with 20 stations playing hip-hop, top 40 and country. I'm grateful we haven't gone there yet.
ReplyDelete"Tell me what station plays current rock music made by people who play actual instruments, write thoughtful lyrics for songs that have an actual melody."
DeleteFunny, when I am forced to endure KFOG at a store or office I hear the same old hippies played over and over. The only "current music" they play are new releases from these old rockers, trustafarian jam bands or some watered down derivative of these summer of love holdouts. KFOG is nothing but elevator music with lyrics.
"We should be thankful KFOG still exists and plays something that intelligent music lovers can appreciate. "
Intelligent music lovers turned the dial LONG ago. The only people who listen to KFOG are burnouts who will be buried (soon) in their tie dye and dope smokers who never grew up out of their dorm daze. The 60s ended over 40 years ago, Jerry is long gone - time to grow up and let go of the past.
It'll be tragic when kfog is flipped.
ReplyDeleteAnyone hear Karel and Weintraub fight tonight on KGO? Clearly they don't like each other. Got any info on that Rich? Couldn't tell if it was fake or not.
time for raddy to turn in the english caddy
