KTVU Revolving Door; KGO-TV: Back to the Studio; Ama Daetz; Claudine Wong; Jenna Susko; Carroll and Pussycat; Bunger; Wednesday Media Hash

Have you seen all the new TV people here of late? Talk about turnover. It's all out there.

Every day I see new reporters, particularly on KTVU which seems to be a minefield for anyone passing a decade in Jack London Square. Yeah, I'm aware of the budget business but seriously, Channel 2's staple, among many, was its place where most people seemed to stay. Hello Rita Williams. Lloyd LaCuesta.

Now, new reporters come and go. Revolving door? Try an In and Out Burger only a TV station and "2" attached to it.

*I like smart, aggressive, engaging, funny, and yes, attractive women reporters and anchors, how creepy. Call me crazy.

*KGO Radio is looking for a "fill-in" reporter. Your oxymoron item for the day.

*Yahoo! Sports Talk Live: Just damn riveting.

Underrated: KTVU's veteran street reporter: Rob Roth. Ditto PIX's ace Oakland/Eastbay correspondent, Christin Ayers.

*Carroll over at the Chronicle wrote yet another cat column. The man loves pussycat.

*KNBR is running 37 minutes worth of spots in any given hour. Cool. And they wonder why AM radio is an albatross.

*Bruno Cohen's relative quiet reign over at PIX since taking over has not only me wondering out loud.

*If Liz Cook could do a simple Q and A with reporter at scene she'd be pretty damn good. And that's no knock because she reads the teleprompter well and that's not as easy as it looks.

*At KGO-TV, the studio set is back. No more newsroom casts. Or, as one cranky veteran told me, "The lights are on but nobody's home." Rimshot!

*Hey, Ama Daetz, it's not against the law to laugh a little.

*Yeah, I know Claudine Wong is smiling now --all because of me--yet, still, the zombie persona still exists. Claudine: You're a nice-looking woman and you too read the teleprompter really well but it's a morning show, for god's sake, wake us up every now and then! Maybe ask Mibach to tell a joke? Couldn't hurt.

*Angry and smug: Stan Bunger. Stan, humility is a virtue. Just ask Madden.

*KALW: KPFA with nicer furniture.

*KCSM: A diamond in the rough.

*A good read-- digital, paper, and cultural: the snappy Peter Hartlaub at SFGate and the Chronicle.

*Overrated: Gasia Mikaelian. Just slightly above average in my book but what do I know.

*The cable hunters are all over Ken Wayne only is Ken Wayne willing to try out Atlanta or Seacaucus real estate.

*Armstrong and Getty: Yeah, Clear Channel's version of Lewis and Martin. These are the same people who think "Frosty" and Gil Gross are entertaining. Sure, about as compelling as a one-legged hooker.

*The snot-nose whiner over at KQED thinks his shit doesn't stink. Only management is beginning to pay attention, so be careful or you might be headed to Fresno to interview bitchy cosmetics clerks from the local Target.

*Heather Holmes was doing a live shot from the twerking chick show over at the Oakland Arena the other night, when, according to some sources, snot came out of nose. Maybe it was sign --karma is a bitch.

*Jenna Susko over at KNTV, (NBC Bay Area): OK, so although I don't know if  any of your content is making waves, but damn, you look like something.

*Horny Guy dept: Those Fremont boys with sideburns who think Kate Scott is cool. Yeah, very compelling, next thing you know Gloria Steinhem is going to anoint her.

I need some coffee.

  1. Upside to KNBR running 37 minutes of ads every hour.... Only 23 minutes per hour of having to listen to the drivel of the on-air hosts.

    1. Rich. Just curious - what hour were these 37 min run in?

  2. I can confirm the Heather Holmes snot incident. As a big fan of Heather I was watching her live report very closely when right before she went to the pre-recorded segment snot flew out and she caught it with her lower lip. The timing was unfortunate because up until the snot flew out she looked extremely sexy with the wind making her beautiful hair look like the cover girl on a romance novel. Rich might be right about Karma. A live shot from the Oakland arena to ask: "has Miley Cyrus' twerking gone too far?".
Heather interviewed Lafayette and Walnut Creek moms as well as teenage girls for their insightful takes on Miley. Sigh!

    2. I just went to the KTVU site, and they cut the snot shot from their video.

Perhaps Holmes should pitch for the Giants, where she can try to "outsnot rocket" Bumgarner and Lincecum!

    3. I hit the rewind button and recorded snot-gate with my iPhone. Maybe I'll post it to YouTube....or hold it for ransom in exchange for a date with Heather!

    4. I know that snot happens, but still....lunch started to do a u-turn in my stomach after I watched the archive.org video of the incident!

  3. I would personally like to investigate Jenna Susko! She might be a very bad girl.

    1. If KNBR is running 37 minutes of commercials per hour, what do they run during Ronn's show on KGO? Is it still talk for 5, break for 5, repeat?

  4. The Radnich show wants you ALL to know Raddy signed a 7 year contract with KRON. He then followed that by stating "3 seven year contracts". What does all that mean? I only report.
Alicia is out the door shopping..only the best!

  5. Once again Bill Martin, KTVU's "meteorologist," gets it totally wrong. Last night he said it would start raining in Oakland/SF around noon today. Started a few hours after he got off the air.

How does that man keep his job?

    1. Meteorologist are paid to guess the weather, not report it.

And some suck at it. He's the pinnacle of that.

  7. Tell me if I'm wrong...Gassia's name is repeated in so many KTVU ads its like she co-owns the station. That ch2 promo announcer just LOVES saying her name too. Frank and the rest just draw her name out plenty too, come to think of it..

  8. any word on who's getting the KFOG morning show gig once Greg Gory *yawn* bails to LA next month? I doubt that his co-host Bill (?), the current PD can handle it on his own.

  9. I think that Liz Cook does an adequate job, but she goes overboard during the "happy talk" phases of the newscasts.

  10. "KNBR is running 37 minutes worth of spots in any given hour".

First off, that's a lie. It's about 22-25 minutes. Secondly, most stations would kill to be able to sell that much time. Be honest Rich. If you could sell ads to support your blog, this page would look like Jimmie Johnson's race car.

    1. Wow. You hit Rich for chirping 37 minutes and then give him that old dose of reality of 22 to 25 minutes and hour. ARE YOU SERIOUS? That's why I don't listen to commercial radio anymore. Podcasts or nothing. No ads. Plus, you really think the morons on KNBR are worth listening to for the other 35 minutes or so? I would rather listen to commercials. Put Rich on KNBR and I'll listen.

  13. To the few who listens to KSFO is Sussman and Katie getting worse? Is that even possible. I listened a bit this morning, maybe 20 minutes, (could have been yesterday) Brian was talking about health secretary Sibilus, obviously he does not like her voice, in trying to convey her manner of speaking he kept saying BA, BA BA, the Katie joined in BA, ba, ba....... Liberal, conservative whatever, but who LISTENS to these idiots. And Rich thinks Armstrong and Getty is bad?? I can see his point, but the choices in morning is KGO news (I didn't even listen to KGO news when the were the old KGO) Glenn Beck, (his paranoid take on things can be interesting, and he does speak normal English, with no weird sounds) the other 2 choices is Armstrong and Getty and KSFO. I cannot comprehend how a radio station in a city like San Francisco, can have an imbecile show with hosts like Sussman and Katie (no wonder Melanie quit) and have an audience of more than a handful of people.

  15. Ever since they let me out of the mental ward at Kaiser, driven there by that gawd-awful Thrive campaign narrated by that drone of a woman (is she a robot?), I've listened to Sussman and Katie. I have learned, oh so much. I also tape Glenn Beck, because, being the lunatic I am, I need some lunacy meds each day, and Dr. Glenn fills my prescription. If I need more crazy, I listen to Hannity. Then, to counterbalance my meds, I watch MSNBC and the same old shit every hour, every day, every year. At least Fox puts on Foxes like Kelly. And she is smart. I think Anderson Cooper is cute is his albino whiny type of way and he's a good newsman. Oh, wait, gotta go, the Kaiser whitecoats are coming. Thrive, I say, THRIVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
