Exclusive: Kate Scott Soon To Be KGO-TV Sports Anchor; KNBR Tonsil on Watkowski Radar

Kate Scott, currently doing something of significance at KNBR if you believe in miracles, has been auditioning over at KGO-TV, (ABC7) to presumably become a sports anchor, according to one of my Circle7 spies.

Scott's been on KGO's ND, Tracey Watkowski, radar for "quite a while." A hiring could be imminent. Scott has done some TV work for Comcast, locally.

M-F sports anchor, Larry Beil is safe. Mike Shumann, the weekend guy needn't worry. But Rick Quan, formerly of KPIX and a fill in, might be the odd man out.

Good for Scott. Maybe she could become relevant on TV and be the next Karna Small.

Freaking Awesome, dude! Or Nobody cares? You be the judge.

  1. I hope she stays natural and doesn't "enhance" for the camera.. Good luck Kate, I like her.

    1. I'm a big fan of Kate's work for Cal sports. I believe Rich has been over the top rough on her for no apparent reason. She is in a no win situation playing third fiddle to Raddy's stale shtick. She is also easy on the eyes. Good luck to her!

  2. Well,on one of her first days at KNBR..she claimed that she was told that "If your last name was Hispanic,we would hire you"..!!! And,as I have pointed out before here -Sure, pretty and blond is a real drag..a real hindrance to being hired for TV. And,also I have said...what kind of maroon believes a employer when they say that? I'm sure she now knows how naive her younger self was.
I was just reading Town and Country's Jan issue. I didn't see any Latino's and all the Asian woman were married to white men, and Blond was everywhere in that good life magazine. Heck,I didn't see any Asian or Latino's other then Yoko at the Grammy tribute for the Beatles. 50 years later, still not included.

    1. Do you specifically look for Latino's while reading magazines, Stan? Perhaps I could recommend Low Rider Magazine. I see plenty of Latino's in there but no white's or Asians.

    2. Oh poor, poor Stan. How heartbreaking that must have been for him.

He didn't see any Asian or Latino's other then Yoko at the Grammy tribute to the Beatles.

    3. Surprising Stan has time to read magazines.

He spends so much time monitoring Radnich early morning on KRON, listening to and watching Radnich morning show on KNBR and Comcast, then watching Gary again in the evening on KRON.

  3. Rich, make up your mind.

Your headline says she IS soon to be KGO-TV sports anchor but your story says she has been auditioning PRESUMABLY to be an anchor.

Isn't it hard to talk out of both sides of your mouth at once? Which is it? Is it going to happen or are you guessing.

  4. Kate has, for what it's worth, been far off Rich's likability doppler radar. This move, either real of presumed, must agitate him, considering the calling-out he's done of her. I'm surprised he decent dredge up the old insults. Rich, this means your shot at Comcast could be next! Good luck. Kate, same to you at ABC-7.

    1. No, I'm just a fair reporter.

Good for her, she's blond and cheeky, let her be every horny male's fantasy.

    2. Today Rich is just a reporter until the next time he screws up, then he'll go back to saying he is just a blogger..which one is it?

    3. Maybe you should decide, it's YOU that keeps coming here, asswipe.

    4. No, you aren't fair nor are you a reporter. You have consistently made the point that you are a blogger.

A blogger can write whatever he likes. A reporter is bound by certain journalistic principals which you yourself have frequently disavowed. Be careful not to blur the lines.

    6. Rich, if you consider readers who keep coming to this site "asswipes," that doesn't say much for your blog, your intellect, or your vocabulary.

  5. Kate is female and younger than Rick but TV talent isn't what it once was so what else is new...yawn

  6. Does this mean well see a return of the great Dan Dibley?

    1. Gawd, I hope not. There isn't anyone in this market that is more over-rated.

  7. On KNBR Kate is the worst... a voice that sounds like it is trying to be OFFICIAL and COMMANDING and content that manages to use real words but when you actually listen you realize that all of her words add up to either no point at all or her point is that there are two sides to every story, here's what they are, and in the end she can see the point to both sides. Kate's biggest weakness is what I call "the fear of offending." And on a radio program that is supposed to offer opinions and commentary it is simply torture. . With that said, she would probably be better at TV anchoring where the job is simply to report the story and the scores but not make a personal comment about it. So as bad as she is on radio perhaps she will be at least passable to good on TV (I don't see greatness but time will tell).

    1. 2:01 is spot on. There is no there. She reads the morning chronicle and spits it back on the air. No original thought. Very pedestrian.

  9. I think Dibley has a snow ball's chance in hell of going back to KNBR. From what I've heard, he really pissed off Hammer, and from I have also heard, Hammer doesn't forgive and forget.

    2. Right on target. Scott is vanilla. Petrified to give an opinion other than if a local team will win. She stayed away from commenting on the sterling issue while Gary and Larry talked it up.
Such a bore. When she took over the show due to illness of Gary and Larry she went into the "I am so interesting mode"...telling us about how when she was a kid...here father put her in front of a tv and asked her to tell him how the games were going. And how she personally hated various cowboy players growning up. If Gary talks about stull like that she interjects that nobody cares. Funny . what a hypocrite.

  10. The very fact that Kate Scott is on the air in any capacity, especially at KNBR, not only tells you how far 'The Sports Leader' has fallen, but what does it say about the industry in general?

  13. I say two thumbs up for Kate.
She is worthy of this new position/career opportunity.
    She will do just fine.
Now Kate just stay away from those sound drops. Please!

  14. I never thought you needed any more elaborate weather segment than Karna Small with her grease pencil writing backwards on that glass panel.

  15. We know that Rich is half of the Anonymous people hating on Kate! She is fun, knowledgable, and has good banter with M&M and Gar & Lar!

  16. I'm sensing a pattern here, first Watkowski takes Alan Wang off the weekend anchor desk and now Rick Quan might be pushed aside for a woman with little or no TV experience. Apparently Watkowski has a thing against Asian male anchors. Doesn't she realize she works in the San Francisco Bay area not in Fresno anymore.

  18. Just reading a mews report is great for her, just as she has a god voice for commercials.
But she thiks the world revolves around her tastes, and radnich has to pull back on the reins. Whether she s spending time talking about soccer, or talking about some womas college sport at CAL, Or getting an interview at superbowl week in NYC from a female sports announcer that she always admired....or some woman boating person....who really cares. Its not for her to educated us on sports and people we dont care about. But if someone writes it...and she reas it....now that I can tolerate.
