OK, you win.
I was not intending to post this but not doing so is essentially saying this didn't happen in 2013. It most certainly did and still wildly confounds the mind, still, to this day how it made air; how it got by ALL the various people who are paid well and are smart to catch these types of "jokes" before bad things happen.
Yet, shit, it made air.
This is not some local deal. It's received over 11 million views on YouTube and it was red meat topicalitus inside every newsroom in America. And the living room and kitchen too. To insist that it was merely some Bay Area TV prank is simply a case of being in denial. And while no one, me included, wants to pile on our good friends at KTVU, this brief 30-odd seconds of video continues to boggle the mind.

I seriously don't understand how anybody who could've stopped that from reaching air and didn't get that done still has a job.
ReplyDeleteTori Campbell is a complete idiot. A lot of people lost their jobs over this one - mostly at the lower level. Tori needed to get shown the door - period. She is a marginal newscaster and this shows that she is merely a talking head. If all you needed to do is to parrot what is on the teleprompter, then we could just tune to the interns at KRON. At least they have nice tits to look at.
ReplyDeleteSort of like Ron Burgundy? "For the last time, anything you put on that prompter, Burgundy will read!"
DeleteNewsflash, Einstein: except for a few of the old schoolers--Vacar, Fowler, Catherine Heenan, Vic Lee--they're ALL talking heads today, even the ones Rich thinks are so "intelligent" (ie, they have nice tits).
DeleteYears ago one hired as reporters people who used to work in related fields--crime people for beat stories, political insiders for political stories, etc. Now they go to "journalism schools" where they teach you how to hold a stick mike in front of a car wreck. And these kids want a job badly, so they'll accept wages a Burger King worker would consider insulting.
"And while no one, me included, wants to pile on our good friends at KTVU, this brief 30-odd seconds of video continues to boggle the mind."
ReplyDeleteOne assumes Lieberman is being sarcastic. He has been beating this dead horse for the past six months!
Yeah, me and 11M others on YouTube; Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart, DeadSpin...SFGate, Drudge --we've all been beating that "dead horse."
DeleteThanks KTVU PR Dept, Happy New Year
No, Rich, they beat it once. I defy to find anyone else who has many posting about this as you. Will you be a man and take me up on it, or will you censor this post?
DeleteYaah, me and 11M others on YouTube; Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart, DeadSpin...SFGate, Drudge --we've all been beating that "dead horse."
DeleteRich, they talked about it for one week then let it go and moved on. You haven't, hence the appearance that you are beating a dead horse.
You can't see that?
No.
DeleteAnd this is a "year-end" post and THIS story was THEE the TV News story of the year, sorry to burst your bubble and state of denial.
Lieberman's hypocrisy is writing, "while no one, me included, wants to pile on our good friends at KTVU." ABSOLUTELY FALSE! Anyone who reads this blog know Lieberman LOVES to pile on KTVU and has been doing it for the past 6 months.
DeleteOuuuH!, another KTVU surrogate fan.
DeleteNice to see that Tori isn't afraid to be "Anonymous"!
DeleteHey, folks, Rich is spot on. This story made many end of year "top ten" lists, including the Los Angeles Times: http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/tv/showtracker/la-et-st-tv-newspeople-embarrassing-moments-20131223,0,7975185.story?track=rss#axzz2p8l4RXKU
ReplyDeleteExcept they don't bring it up 2x per week still.
DeleteThis one is going to be alive for some time. A classic. Will be often mimicked but never copied. :)
