I did hear his rant about Jonathon Martin and how some of men need to man up and how a lot of us guys are pure pussies when it comes to being a guy, a man...yada, yada, yada.
Bruce is a dickhead here. He can play radio shock boy all he wants with his misogynistic overtones and heave up a temporary spike in his KNBR template. Screw the woman demo and all that but when he starts playing armchair shrink and ventures into non-sports meatier subject matter like mental health, depression, anxiety disorders and the like he better know what the hell he's getting into and this area he is greatly lacking any real substantive expertise.
I don't want to get into the Martin-Richie Incognito imbroglio--there's still too much non-info there and Martin seems to have hit a perfect storm of angst and fury. We don't know the full story yet on his own mental faculties but doing a self-analysis on a sports radio show devoid of any professional thought is not only misguided but squarely stupid, banal and insensitive to the core. Believe me, I know from experience because I have and am going through a constant personal battle of my own. There's a multitude of isms in your mind and sometimes you can't explain it, nor should you. Much of it is a matter of dealing with daily life but that's another story altogether not suited for the 24/7 blogosphere .
So let Bruce pander away on dumb chatter involving women and sports. Let him get his hits and allow him his personal gism oasis where he can have another wet dream about Jim Rome and the Warriors.
The other issue: Don't go there Hoosier boy.

Rich, are saying that you didn't hear what Damon Bruce said but you are commenting on it anyway?
ReplyDeleteDude's a tool. He's the guy who is still trying to get into the room with the cool kids.
ReplyDeleteDead-on, Rich. That first paragraph lays is out perfectly.
ReplyDeleteSad thing is, Bruce was once pretty good. Now, he's just playing a character every day in a bid to gain attention in the hope of growing his audience enough that he can go to a larger platform. I did click a link and listen, and it was clearly a very calculated act. Unfortunately, it will probably work.
How can Larry Krueger get canned for Cream-Of-Wheat Gate and Damon is live on air right now? Makes absolutely no sense.
ReplyDeleteDamon can be funny. Larry seems to inch toward saying something wrong before Gary has to reel him back in.
DeleteLets face it,Bruce said what most men feel about sports... "God hates fags". Damon showed times haven't changed the majority- all colors too- hatred. And its a hate.
ReplyDeleteI do not always agree with Damon but compared to most other radio hosts, he at least takes positions and defends them. He is a professional entertainer. When I am trapped in my car I am grateful for good radio. (His football betting bit with his mother is classic and he usually has a strong hour from noon to 1.)
ReplyDeleteI used to think he was trying (way, way too hard) to be edgy. Now I think he just has something wrong with him. Seems sort of really sad and insecure.
ReplyDeletewhats up with lieberman live
ReplyDeleteSince you are the self appointed expert on all mental issues, how about a show about that instead of tattoos, cats and dogs? Did you ever hear the content on your own show?
ReplyDeleteDamon Bruce seems to think hes made of Teflon. His show is mildly entertaining, but he has become boorish and almost "bully" like.
ReplyDeleteHis feud with Radnich seems to fuel his anger. Cant stand the punk much longer.
Stick it to him, Rich. I remember one time he made a comment about people who don't have college degrees. Basically anyone without a degree is beneath him in his book. He thinks he knows it all. He doesn't. I'd like to see how much of a "real man" he is if some even average sized guy got in his face.
ReplyDeleteA poor man's Mancow Muller. Very poor man.
ReplyDeleteSince when did sports radio become the He-Man Women Hater's Club? And don't think he won't lose a few intelligent men from this. Nothing worse for me in talk radio than hearing a host taking a stance just to be argumentative and make waves.
And anyone interested in this should read Gwen Knapp's retort on Sports On Earth.
Wonder if manly man Brucie has ever actually played an organized sport? Padded up, put on a cup, and knocked heads with people who could drop him on his ass faster than you can say charlatan?
ReplyDeleteIf Damon ever had any credibility in this market, he lost it a few years back when I heard him just make stuff up off the top of his head that was clearly wrong. A caller asked a question concerning Montana and Young and the turn of events that led to the changing of the guard. Damon clearly had no clue, and any half way knowledgeable fan knew it was utter bullshit.....hey he wasn't here at that time...but guess what...just say "I don't know"...rather than be so egotistical that you spew verbal trash into the ethos. Back to the Midwest for you D Bruce..you won't be missed.
ReplyDeleteHis show has always been a rip-off of the Hot Take! type which exists in every market in the country. He doesn't get the Bay Area market and he never will. He's God's perfect poseur.
DeleteBruce knows nothing but sports. He floundered in his attempt at a general call in show on KGONE
ReplyDeleteGive me Papa and his sidekick Lund any day. The Godfather's take was far more informed, intelligent and nuanced than anything Bruce would ever know.
The good thing is, Bruce may kick his mother off the air.
ReplyDeleteThe best/worst part of his show is how he tries to incorporate the supposed music he's into. It's so sad. A few weeks ago he had some caller on who had apparently sent him some Dead shows, and Damon was all excited. I started wondering if he has any real clue about the Dead, or if he's just a guy who moved here and discovered them. Truth is EVERY SINGLE DEAD SHOW IS AVAILABLE FOR FREE AT ARCHIVE.ORG and EVERY FAN KNOWS THIS. He doesn't know. As the second poster wrote, he's trying to be something he's not. It's working for him, but it's so transparent.
ReplyDeleteHe's a total poseur.
