Has The 'Loyah', Len Tillem Put Broadcasting In the Rear-View Mirror? I Asked Him

Repeated e-mail from my readers: What's going on with Len Tillem? Da Loyah has been conspicuously silent lately. His podcasts have sort of disappeared and I too was curious.

So I decided to e-mail Da Loyah myself and see what was going on.

RL: Are you doing any more podcasts or are they in the rear-view mirror?

Answer from Tillem: Rich, I am in biz as a lawyer. I have my same busy practice in Sonoma. We do senior legal work and personal injury litigation. I'm happy.

Gut instinct: Tillem doesn't have a big ego. I think he's quite happy doing his legal work and enjoys life. But given the right circumstances, I would bet he would love to do a little radio show. He has the technique, the subject matter and most important, he has he. But given the state of radio, I don't think Da Loyah has the patience nor the will to put up with all the drama needed to do a radio show this day and age.

I know Da Loyah has a lot of fans. I get repeated e-mail inquiring of his status. And you know what? I agree. But as I said, Tillem sounds content. He certainly doesn't need money. But if there's a will and a way, and it doesn't require heavy lifting, I'd bet Da Loyah might be back soon. Somewhere. Some place. Some day. Maybe, maybe not.

  1. Len probably doesn't need a radio show anymore, to generate business for his law practice. He gave good info, frequently mentioned his Sonoma office, and that one should expect to pay $300 an hour for an attorney. He also has a column in a local newspaper, I believe, which probably generates sufficient local leads so that he doesn't need the additional work of doing a radio show, which goes mainly to people out of his income-producing area.

  2. Da Loyah's downfall was his incessant need to take days off and it started on KGO and continued with 910am. The guy was mailing it in and it was obvious. No wonder he got kicked to the curb. Now we are blessed with four hours of Gil Gross monologues. (Sigh!).

  3. Doesn't have a big ego? Ask some of the poor folk who had the unfortunate experience of engineering his show. Brutal.

  4. Len is sorely missed...i guess he just got tired of the BS...

AM radio really stinks here in this market..

Kgo has the worst on air "talent"

    I do like Radnich though..

  5. To bad He was the best KGO and KKSF had by far. Also Should KKSF not have a jump in ratings with all the KGO talkers over there? I Guess KGO did the right thing by cutting the Dead weight.

    1. What do you mean with the KGO talkers at KKSF? Gil is there, he was good on KGO, not great, but good, trailing behind Gene Burns and John Rothmann, soon after he got his show on KKSF he changed his format, these days he stinks, I cannot listen to him. Lloyd Lindsay Young is there, but I don't think a weatherman adds much to ratings. John does a rare fill in, he use to do political commentary, and Ed Baxter use to do a commentary, but they were fired. So I don't know what you mean by "all the KGO talkers", and KGO had very good ratings before the let most of their hosts go, they were down a little, but nothing like they are now.
Your analysis does not hold up.

    2. We need to get Len back on. I have stopped listening to the radio after he left KKSF. His podcasts were okay, but he should be back on the radio.

  6. Radnich: "I was just talking to my friend Rich Leiberman on the phone. What you people don't understand is-- he didn't rip me for six years to be personal. No,he only ripped me when it was warranted. I understand that . He only ripped me to make me a better person.""He didn't do it for the attention"
Enjoy your pact with El Diablo Radnich...

  8. So what's the skinnhy with the KGO-TV layoffs? The spam was supposed to hit the fan at the end of the month, and two big repoters/anchors were supposed to be on the list.

  9. Lem's show was the only one with real practical value. I learned a lot about to deal with touchy issues with my neighbors or whether it is worth it to be a landlord.

    Oh well.

  10. Len would probably do well with a one day a week weekend radio talk show and might well be able to syndicate it throughout the state. As Monday through Friday fare, it got old.

  11. I wish he'd at least said good-bye... he vanished without a word and some of us were worried about his health.

    if there is a will,

  13. The most magnificent man,high-level political advisor, lawyer, and KGO talk host was Dwayne Garrett. I absolutely loved him and he encouraged me all through law school . We often had the discussion about how non-tenurial broadcasting is for everyone, and about how good it was to have other skills, professional ones. I would have loved to have worked for him. His flying leap off the GGB broke a lot of hearts.
Len has a well-established firm and is a public figure, with a law office in Paradise. He'll be fine. whether or not he does a show again.

  14. After listening for years and years a farewell podcast would have been nice.

  15. The real question how will Michael Gilfix and Pat Vitucci survive without the constant seminar plugs?

    1. Not to worry! Gil Gross on Talk 910 has rushed to fill in the void and is giving gushing, effusive on air endorsements of Pat Vitucci, swearing by the latter's financial planning acumen, and joins Pat at free luncheon sales pitches around the Bay Area. Even Rhoda and their son Spencer turn to Pat Vitucci for financial planning. They "believe" in Pat. Sometimes, Gil forgets to read the ad copy at designated times on air and says they're going to break, but his producer always reminds him with hand gestures or a mean stare and Gil goes into his paid-for testimonials about how Vitucci is the best thing since the invention of the wheel. Need a plumber, call Ben Franklin? Need an electrician, call Mr. Sparky. Gil and Rhoda have had them both to their home and can't stop signing their praises. Whatever happened to the cabinet makers that Gil used to so effusively endorse, as though they were the closest family friends of 30 years... Segale Brothers I think? Thank you, Gill-man and Roh-duh!

    2. 9:17 Radio today is one big paid ad. Perhaps Rich can do a post on it. The only one I think is not lying, is the lady on KCSO I bet she has used the Tree Service. It is funny all Talkers get new windows every year.

  16. len's response above seems a little off. as we all know the purposes of the podcasts and seminars was to drive clients to his practice as well as referrals to other specialty lawyers.

in this day of technology it doesn't take much to generate his own podcasts. we all miss the podcasts wish len provided a better explanation of what's really going on
