Chuy Has Suitors, Maybe MTV; The Star Wanted a Sandwich at North Beach Restaurant; KTVU/KPIX Zombies; KRON Drama; Bay Bridge Giggle Club; Friday Nuggets

FRIDAY NUGGETS--

**Don't feel sorry for Chuy Gomez, the dissed tonsil from KMEL who was shown the door by ClearChannel over, what else, da money, has several interested outlets interested in making a deal--beyond that, I'm told, even MTV might be interested in talking to Mr. Gomez.

**Sure, Michael Savage is a pain in the ass to deal with; but he moves the needle. And so, even if word on the street has it that Hannity told Cumulus to stuff it, maybe Hannity saw the handwriting on the wall. His ratings on both TV and radio are down, about 30%, across the board, in fact, and while he 's not going to starve, other than his amen-corner, Hannity has become old news.

**My spy at North Beach Restaurant: a certain morning personality at KGO Radio who likes to sell mattresses arrived in a limo with the owner of the place. The star was hungry and didn't want to come into the joint after a wake. "Get me a sandwich to take home", said the mighty star, and sandwich come and he go home. Weird.

**KTVU and KPIX: "Thanks for trusting us and our gagged reporters who are told not to talk because we are zombies and we can't say a damn thing anymore."

**Hey, NBC Bay Area, (KNTV): I have something you can investigate: why is that 2's ND, Lee Rosenthal, 33 going on 63, is extra-muzzled and can't say a damn thing? Most bizarre: Not only is Rosenthal not talking, but half the newsroom isn't talking to him!

**Note to listeners of KCBS: if you miss the lead story after the 7 AM news, just check back at 8, 9, 10, 11 and Noon, 1 too and you can hear the story you missed at 7. I'm not kidding. Which is pretty both sad and funny at the same time.

**The problem with the entire business, in a nutshell: how can a group of people, who have ZERO respect for their staff, (mostly), then have any RESPECT for YOU, the viewer and the listener? It's THAT simple. They take all of you For Granted, the bastards.

**SAG/AFTRA issues at KRON, (union), is one of the 'issues, but not THEE issue. The old shit and drama is back upstairs --including the drama queen herself who's hijinks continue to make life hell for a lot of people, hence a whole lot of people saying 'to hell with this--I'm outta here!"

**You pompous Bay Area Media peeps? Yeah, about time you became accountable and 415 Media is especially happy to be on your ass. Don't flatter yourself, either. It's Just That the viewers and listeners are wise to you.

**Tori Campbell's contract, recently re-upped, Won't be renewed at KTVU--about three years hence.

**Giddy/gushing glee kids just home from trick-or-treating: the giggle club of "reporters" on the Bay Bridge story. No wonder they're a bunch of stenographers.

  1. I actually have no problem with this. To paraphrase Radnich, people are in and out of their cars. People pop in and out for news throughout the day (whether traveling, at work, etc. Unless something is breaking. I EXPECT KCBS to provide the main news stories throughout the morning/afternoon/evening and replace lesser stories with more developing news as it comes about throught the day.

  2. While I've long outgrown KMEL (except for Flashback Friday, Chuy will be OK. He has a enough fans and cachet to land on his feet (probably in a better position. Clear Channel is like death to radio

  3. Mattress man...wake...could it have been Sunday? Pat Thurston said on Saturday, that she wouldn't be on program on Sunday because they were finally having a memorial service for Gene Burns. Any info on that, Rich? Who were speakers, etc... probably mattress man mourning his dear departed best friend, though he certainly was not there for him when he needed him

  4. Here you go again Rich, writing so cryptically. You say there are issues at KRON with the "drama queen" but who do you mean? Darya? Stacey Baier? dare I say Brian Greif? What do you seem to know that the rest of us rank & file don't?

    1. Doing it that way allows Rich to write without taking responsibility.

  5. But But But Hamity is a True American. Or as some of his dipshit highly call screened, callers would call him a Real American.

  6. I had the pleasure of working with Chuy Gomez for years, when he first came to KMEL. He's smart, funny, connects with audience, and was a pleasure to work with; he might be better off getting away from "traditional" radio. I agree; he will be just fine.

  7. Any turth to the rumors that CBS radio might be sold - possibly to Cumulus? I keep reading about the pending destruction of the CBS radio brand. Just curious.

    1. CBS Radio has been talking about thinning the portfolio of radio stations it owns for some time. Will they sell it all? I doubt it, unless someone with a very, very fat wallet surfaces. CBS Radio makes a ton of money on its flagship stations. The lesser outlets would be logical to chop.

  8. Anybody catch the Radnich melt down after a caller snuck by and got in a few low blows with Raddy? Mic open and Raddy says "You punk you a$$ never let that happen again"

Followed by a LONG LONG LONG commercial and then Raddy comes back ON and says it was all rehearsed on his part.

Would love to believe the Raddoo but not this time. He even got Kate and staff to come on the air and say it was not real.

    Hmmmmm

    1. Yes, I heard it. It was obvious to me that it was all a joke. Sounds like Radnich's satire is too subtle for @1:28.

    2. To really spell it out, in this case Satire = Lying, or what they used to call "White Lies".

    3. Satire = The use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices.

  9. Driving in a limo. That sounds like the mattress man.
But my question is, did he have an entourage with him?
With that man's ego nothing less would do.

  10. I see mattress man has downsized his mode of transportation. Back in the days when he mattered and was somebody he rode in an 18 wheeler to transport his massive ego. He's now down to a limo. By this time next year his ego might be able to fit in a Mini Cooper. Aaaahh, how the mighty have fallen.

  11. Two, OK, three quick statements; #1. re; Hannity schedule change at Fox; I knew Fox was popular with people like me (Tea Party), but I was actually quite (pleasantly)surprised that this became a big news story on Drudge. You would think it was spring of 1970 again, and Paul just announced the break up of The Beatles.
#2. I'm patiently waiting for Melanie Morgan and Brian Sussman UPDATES! separately, of course, or as Dan Rather might've said, "What is The Trajectory, Rich?"
#3. It would not surprise me to see Dan Rather and later Bob Schieffer go to AL Jazzera to continue their careers and to rub some mud in the eyes of the American Public who ungratefully rejected them. OK, Schieffer is still active, but will become vengeful once gracefully put out to pasture.
