A Star is Born

  1. Obviously quite attractive, can't get over the feeling she resembles someone else, Madeline Stowe?

  2. Care to elaborate?

    1. Yeah, I've been paying a lot of attention to the NTSB pressers.

  3. I'll bet the "star" fades as airline issues do as well.

  4. I thought it was Marsha Clark prefacelift! But maybe Madelaine Stowe is better. She's hot!!

  5. This is just her first act. She is superb, handling intricate detail easily and professionally. She actually made NTSB briefings not only interesting but understandable to non-pilots..bravura performance.

    1. Superb? Leave it Christine.

Agreed Hersman appears highly competent and has performed well. BUT to lay it on because she is a woman reflects underlying doubts about women's ability to routinely perform as well if not better than men.

I'm a male who recognizes and accepts the equality of women. Why can't Christine?

    2. And so is it your belief that had the current spokesman for the NTSB been male, the comments would have been about whether or not he was sexually hot? and which movie star he looked like? You actually know that never would have happened.
The phrase,"having someone for lunch, and not even noticing" or "still being hungry", is a widely used turn of phrase. It means here that the people critiquing Ms. Hersman's bleepability are insignificant. You should read more, not less.
As for your comment that you have utterly no gender bias, I think that's just bullshit.

    3. Oh you didn't know, that's Christine's thing; women are victims, she's a victim. Discrimination, didn't you know?

    4. Wow! Christine is head over heels over Hersman and we don't know yet if Hersman loves guns as much as Christine. If she does, Christine may jump off the Hilary 2016 bandwagon!

    5. "As for your comment that you have utterly no gender bias, I think that's just bullshit." What @7:08 said, "I'm a male who recognizes and accepts the equality of women."

Why does that simple statement evoke rage in Christine?

Maybe because she rationalizes all her failures as a result of pervasive discrimination against women. Perceived discrimination is in the oxygen she breaths. It's what makes her a hero in her own mind.

      Without it, she's nothing.

    6. Christine writes, "And so is it your belief that had the current spokesman for the NTSB been male, the comments would have been about whether or not he was sexually hot?"

Christine, your the only one to calling Hersman "sexually hot." Is that why you called her "superb?" Good luck with that but don't think flattery will work here given your considerable baggage.

  6. What's the obsession with this chick (not just here but all over)? Are men that sex-starved? She's an average-looking middle-aged woman who can talk in coherent sentences. That also describes a middle manager at Peets Coffee & Tea. BFD.

    1. You're right! Most middle managers at Peets Coffee can easily run the NTSB. No biggie.

    2. this "chick" could have you for lunch,10:36, and not even notice. I'll be using your comment to illustrate a point today on the Karel show. enjoy.

    3. Great to see Christine getting content from a single anonymous source on the internet. Like 10:36s opinion applies broadly or something

    4. I think the only story here is the crash.

Hersman's predecessors have always exhibited the same professional qualities that she does, the only thing changed is gender. Suddenly because we have a non repulsive woman at the top it's something worth noticing?

Looks wise, she's average, nothing to get aroused over but not Janet Reno either.

Obama could've selected a white, middle aged, straight male with the same resume but it would upset his followers. Either way, Hersman hasn't dropped the ball.

    5. Have me for lunch? Not sure what that means. Again your minds probably on her sex, while I'm talking about what she's doing, which is talking. Great, terrific. If you mean she knows more than me, well I hope so, but I'm a licensed instrument-rated pilot myself and could do what she's doing. Except I don't look like Tom Sellick's hot daughter in some movie. I'm middle-aged and balding, just like you.

      Ooh, I'm scared.

Wow, Christine is one HOSTILE woman.

  7. Agree the NTSB has been represented well with Deborah Hersman.
Her press conferences have been level headed and devoid of hyperbole. Unlike some of the numskulls in the media with there over the top reporting.
The smallest traffic tie up and all hell breaks lose.
Filled with bluster and a lack of restraint.
    Does KGO come to mind?

  8. Agree - extremely cool, calm and composed all the time despite silly media. Definitely has the sexy librarian look going on.

  9. 1st class. Very professional. Looks like Tom Selleck's daughter in Blue Bloods.

  10. Is this a new approach by the NTSB? I thought the usual media game plan was to say 'we're investigating and you'll get our report in a year.'

As for Ms. Hersman, I agree she's terrific. She's amazingly calm without putting the audience to sleep. But more importantly she is able to explain complex and intricate material in a straightforward, easy to understand fashion.

Too bad she's not running the corrupt DOJ or SEC (if you don't believe me about the latter, read a Matt Taibi column or two in Rolling Stone).

  11. Agreed! The moment I saw her I said to myself, That Girl needs her own show! Somebody call Roger Ailes Quick. Where have they been hiding her, in the boardroom? Who does she remind me of? I know, I know! Deborah Hershman reminds me of the cool Lady detective in Hill St. Blues, the one and only Veronica Hamel aka Joyce Davenport look it up, they could be sisters.

  12. She can read my New York City phone book, I'm all ears! Deborah Hersman, sweeter than a Hershey bar.

  13. Having covered a number of aircraft accidents through the years, Hersman is the latest in a long line of NTSB members who know how to handle a news conference.

The role of the NTSB member at an accident scene is to be the face of the investigation, thereby allowing the investigators to do their work.

Daily briefings for the first few days following the accident are routine occurrences.

Analyze the briefings: the comments made are highly organized and open the window a little bit to what the investigators have found. Questions asked are answered with precise answers that do not deviate from the messages already delivered. They offer a lot of facts such as the engines were operating normally; the speed was xx knots; etc.

At this point, all of the data points start to get coordinated and each day something is ruled out as the cause. While the analysis is underway, hearings will be scheduled to gather additional information from the airline, the pilots, the engine and avionics manufacturers and witnesses.

When the investigation produces a probable cause, it is tested in simulators or in actual flight to see if issues can be replicated and resolutions can be found for them. This is why it takes nine to fifteen months for the NTSB to issue a final report.

Hersman did a good job here in San Francisco. Her performance is very consistent with previous NTSB investigations, maybe with the exception that she made the media rounds every morning.

What happen at 2? Sum Ting Wong. Wu To Lo. Ho Lee Fuk. And Bang Dong Ow. Hmmm! Hearing the anchor was priceless! Just when 2 shines, they fade into darkness. Shameful.
