Lawrence Karnow: as steady as they come.
Pretty solid, reliable and professional weather forecaster in the biz.
I've been a believer before, but maybe viewers want more hijinks's and theatrics.
Karnow, at worst, should be KPIX solid second, but he's been bounced all over the place. There's something wrong about that.

Definitely agree here. I have said it before, in that I think he should be designated the Senior Meteorologist, instead of that outside interloper, Paul Deanno. Karnow is good, and gives the impression of knowing what he is talking about without seeming like a know-it-all, like Brian Hackney.
ReplyDeleteThere's something wrong about everything that goes on at KPIX. I've never seen such a poorly-run organization of any sort. Worked there for a while and couldn't take it, and I hear it's gotten even worse. That's why among writers, editors, producers, etc., they employ the very bottom of the barrel, even worse than KRON. Nobody would work there unless they had no other choice other than becoming a street person, and maybe not even then.
ReplyDeleteJohn from KPIX?
DeleteJohn Kessler did an awesome job and I hope he's happy with what he has going on now.
All this talk about John's and #2's is cutting my comment short...
LK's talent isn't holding him back in my opinion. Is he trading marquee status for quality of life or are other factors at play?
ReplyDeleteKPIX shot callers make inconsistent personnel decisions, they seem to have no clear objectives and only compound the situation with wishy washy changes. The folks on air should mesh like a team, not valued as an individual(Barry Bonds). KPIX comes off as having no real/apparent brand which I find odd, and its a problem for the on air talent's careers in the long run.
Does LK have the right agent? Couldn't say.
Do all major markets offer the same instability? If not, LK is choosing to accept the way things are. Either way, we're lucky to have him.
Lawrence is a great guy who seems to be doing what's best for his family. If he's not complaining... and his wife Sharon Chin, who has also worked at KPIX for years, is not complaining, than why are we?
ReplyDeleteI'm a former 'PIX'er, too...and also cannot believe what has happened since I left more than a decade ago.
ReplyDeleteIt used to be a fun, tight-knit group of workers there. Now...from what I hear from my buddies who still work there, all of the previous stories about low morale, rudderless leadership and questionable decisions are indeed true.
BTW--Lawrence and Sharon are just about the COOLEST couple--in or out of news---that you will EVER meet!
Don't forget the other cutest couple on tv, Brent and Laura Garcia Cannon. They've been on Bay Area TV for over 10 years now.
ReplyDeleteCute? Are you kidding? He is not on camera anymore and she, the annoying mush-mouth meat puppet, is still doing her news woman act.
Delete,
LK is good...aside from his weather forecasting, his solid, light hearted style and delivery on the KPIX morning news is a refreshing males presence in light of Frank Mallicoat's boring, plastic, I'm a local boy personna. I roll my eyes when an onsite reporter says, "back to you Frank" and he says "I'll take it," as if there was some doubt that he was the guy to pick up the baton? I like the rest of the on air crew in the morning and LK is a huge refreshing part of that.
ReplyDeleteDisagree with your "Frank" take. He has plenty of personality. And LK is off the charts on "Likeability"..
DeleteKarnow's habit of keeping his hands in his pant pockets just creeps me out. It's very unseemly.
ReplyDeleteIn this day and age and region, it's refreshing to see a man with his hands IN HIS OWN POCKETS.
ReplyDeleteI was disappointed to hear that Lawrence Karnow was released from KPIX. He brought the Mobile Weather Lab to my elementary school for the last few years and my class always looked forward his visit . Lawrence always went out of his way to help students understand the science of Meteorology and they really enjoyed helping him broadcast the noon weather report. He is a caring, intelligent, engaging and informative TV personality and I can't imagine anyone better at the job of weather reporting than Lawrence.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on this point. He should've been no. 1. I am starting to watch another morning news show. John, Sydney and Lawrence were the best in the morning. Thank you Great Karnow you will be missed!
