Gonzales in NY to do Weather for CBS This Morning Saturday

  Roberta Gonzales

Roberta Gonzales is in NY the next two weekends to do weather for CBS This Morning Saturday show; too bad KPIX5 doesn't promote one of its biggest personalities doing a network gig.Oh well, I did. Gonzales indeed has star power and this national gig is indicative of that.

  1. I'm sure KPIX doesn't want to promote her. I'm also sure she's doing this as a message to management. She's competitive and egotistical; she didn't take the recent demotion kindly. And I'll bet she's schmoozing with every NY exec she can while she's there.

    1. And who isn't like that? If she stabbed somebody in the back..then get back to me.

    2. I wasn't faulting her, just explaining from KPIX's point of view why they're doing what they're doing.

    3. First my disclaimer, I have been her fan since her days at KNTV channel 11. I have been told by her colleagues she is a very nice person, no hangups, humble, sincere and with humility. Professionally she is highly talented and a very hard worker. When her kids were growing up, she commuted at 3:00 AM in the morning as part of her morning duties. These descriptions of her were by her former colleagues and not a figment of my imagination. Now coming to you, how do you know she is egotistical? Has she crossed your path? Have a good day sir/madam and GOD bless you.

  2. Uh Oh....usually when this happens the News Personality goes "national" on the Networks. I would hate for us in the Bay Area to lose Roberta, but she is that good.

  3. I wonder how old Roberta is? I remember her visiting my junior high school way back in the late 1980's and she had already been at KNTV 11 a few years by then. Does anyone remember the big hair she had back then? It wasn't Terilyn Joe big, but it was unique indeed.

  4. It's probably common for networks to do this. Even though this might not compare directly, look at Damon Bruce, who has been filling in on Saturdays on CBS Sports Radio this month and last month. No one on KNBR 680 mentioned it, and he had to promote it himself.

But yeah, it is kind of too bad that KPIX doesn't promote her, considering how long she has been there.

  5. She's tiresome and fake. KPIX made a good move by demoting her.

    1. New York might be the right forum for her oversize opinion of herself. Early on I liked her reporting but recently she's become a caricature of herself. Nowadays it's all about Roberta.

The weather? Not so much. (And that weathermobile, has anybody in mgmt noticed we viewers can't read the screen? Jeez.)

Victorville girl just wants to make good.

    2. I have met Roberta in person and found her to be geninue and nice. Almost exactly what you see on the tube. Everyone in the media has an ego. Some are nicer than others. Some are pure phonies. Paul Deanno is about as interesting to watch as a piece of cardboard. I predict he has a very short tenure at the station.

  6. Local news directors sometimes don't understand the value of the talent they have. But when you turn on ABC News and see former KGO reporter Cecilia Vega reporting from the Vatican on the new pope, or see Anna Werner doing almost nightly reports on Scott Pelley's CBS Evening News, you realize how short-sighted our stations have been in letting these reporters go. Roberta has 50,000 watts of star power, which probably intimidated her boss at KPIX. She'd really do well as the host of a talk show, or one of those "entertainment tonight" type shows. She'd even be a lot of fun as a game show host. I think she'd draw an audience with any kind of format. Even sports. KPIX should think about her at 7 or 7:30. Not as a weather anchor. Just build a show around her. Beats the hell out of the last version of Evening Magazine and Judge Judy's ratings are headed downhill.

You're quite wrong. They DO understand and that's why they want to keep them under control. Playing them up means having to pay them more. It will result in an increased viewership but not that much compared to how much they'll have to pay, and the money isn't there anymore now that advertisers have more targeted ways of reaching suckers——I mean, customers.

    2. Agree with Dave Price, look at Sara Sidner on CNN. She does excellent reporting from Jerusalem and covered the New Dheli bombings in an exemplary fashion. Every time I see her on CNN I think, wow why did KTVU ever let her go!?

  7. Hows about this, RoGo and Dave Clark can team up and start Romper Room 2.0. Those kiddy shows rake in the big bucks.

Their condescending sing songy voices would be perfect for reading fairy tales and the like...if you're going to talk to people like they're 5 years old, why not target 5 year olds?

  8. The days of "over paying" reporters and anchors here in the Bay Area appear to be coming to an end. Look at what happened to Dana King. She was making huge money and one day somebody woke up and realized that it's crazy to pay one person over $800,000 a year. Rich had reported the story and she wasn't happy about it. As for Roberta, enough is enough. Time for her ship to sail...way over the top reporting the weather as far as I'm concerned.

  9. Roberta has a personality. She smiles and laughs and does a tremendous amount of community work. I was bummed out when they demoted her. I absolutely loved Dana, Ken, Roberta and Dennis. Now, not so much. Boring...............I find now that I am willing to change the channel more often.

  10. Has anyone else seen who has been filling in on CBS This Morning Saturday since they ended Lonnie Quinn as wx anchor? The weekend people from Miami, some woman from News 12 (a local cable channel in NY) , Roberta, etc. Basically, it's all the B-listers from the affiliates getting contract sweeteners to keep them somewhat content in their jobs. This isn't leading to anything, since there's nothing to lead to. CBS has made it clear weather is not a permanent part of it's national broadcasts. As for Roberta moving to another CBS property, do you really think the all powerful "New York" honchos would've let KPIX demote her if they liked her? They've passed on her talent (or lack thereof) as well.

  11. So, if I'm Randy Hahn, should I be worried at all about this little trip to New York that she'll be taking?
