Oscars 2013: You Watching?

Are you going to watch the Oscars?

Sounds like a silly question since millions of people around the globe do so, but I know a lot of people who have tuned out. Excess Hollywood? Perhaps.

Sunday's show is supposed to be littered with many of the past winners, Streisand, Eastwood, and Robert DeNiro too, who's also nominated this year, (believe it or not, DeNiro hasn't won an Oscar since 1980's "Raging Bull").

I love Seth MacFarLane, but as an emcee for the show, I'm not sure. I wish the Academy could nail down a permanent host along the likes of the old Billy Crystal or Johnny Carson. (Give Letterman one more shot and forget his 1995 butcher performance).

And yes, Argo will clean up. A very good movie, but great? Hardly.

  1. Of course Karel spent all last night explaining why he *isn't* at the Oscars, just as he did with the Grammys.

  5. It might be worth watching just to see MacFarlane's flop sweat. Word is, there is a song that will be composed DURING the show that will be performed AFTER the final, "Best Picture" award. It will tear MacFarlane apart, if the audience doesn't get to him first.

  6. Couldn't care less. I almost never agree with the "judging," which amounts to whoring, mostly. Many if not most deserving people never even get nominated because it's about back-scratching and ass-kissing. And having seen five of the top contenders this year (a lot for me, btw) I can say there wasn't one movie that wasn't at best a three out of five star film. Everything I saw was pretty "okay," nothing more. H'wood, even indie H'wood, is suffering from doldrums, and has been for at least ten years.

  7. Isn't the DVR great? I record and watch what I want the next day, speed through commercials and other boring segments.

Wonder why anonymous people who lack interest in the Oscars feel compelled to boldly proclaim their disinterest.

    Wouldn't not watching be sufficient?

      Oh "because Rich ASKED" ???

You feel like you have a personal relationship with Rich? He asks a question, you answer?

  10. The Oscars are like the Anti Christmas event. Where its to over indulge in wealth and pomp, and vanity. And everybody suddenly speaks in a near British accent. So much for Hollywood being liberal.
