I hear you all.
And even the critical mavens, thanks, I appreciate your input. Gauging all your thoughts and opinions, after all, without them, I don't have a show. No really.
Some feelings of my own---
*We're two weeks and four shows into a long journey--I hope. Give me time. I'm lining up the very best guests, (you ain't heard nothing yet); guests that would rival anyone Else's. The scope of people; the variety from sports, entertainment and news is evident and I'm grateful for that.
As for my interview technique, well, it is what it is. I'm sorry to those of you who don't like my style. You can't please everyone. The interruption deal is fair game and for that I'm sorry--but we have a slight delay between the guest line and my mic, (we're working on that.) It's something I think you'll hear noticeable improvement over the next coming weeks, like I said, give me a chance--we're new.
Yeah, I tend to embellish some questions to guests. This is not CSPAN. Its a brand. Me. I'd ask you to be patient and let me evolve my nuance because I promise you you're going to hear questions asked to guests you'll never hear on the other shows. That might sound pretentious-if so, so be it. Obviously, I will work on some issues that many of you have chided me on, (then again, it's ironic that the biggest howlers seem to be listening to the entirety of the show--thanks.)
Calls.
The most successful talk shows don't necessarily need nor require a ton of calls. We're just in the initial process of getting this project started. Outside of pre-show industry on-line buzz, we haven't had a whole lot of time to promote the program. That said, we've received some great traction and I'm delighted with the quality of the guests and outline of the show. In due time, we will evolve for better or for worse. I'm betting on the former.
We have four shows on the docket. We have a working website and our podcasts are up and running. We're gonna get better and better and soon, better than ever. Just give it time. And again, thanks to all of you who have chimed in. It's welcome here.

Rich,
ReplyDeleteI have enjojed your shows, especially the caliber of your guests.
Sure there have been a few technical glithes here and there but that makes everything feel a little more live and real.
Keep up the good work and I hope your show continues to grow.
"This is not CSPAN. Its a brand. Me."
DeleteThis says it all. Thanks, Rich.
Dial back on the ego. Just a bit. OK?
ReplyDelete***** Question for Rich *****
ReplyDeleteWhat type of person do you think listens to talk radio in general and your program in particular?
I'd hazard to guess that Rich's audience is more sophisticated, diverse, intellectual and culturally savvy and than your run-of-the-mill radio talk show audience. It's a reflection of and a back-handed compliment to the host who's got solid credentials as a highly reputable and insider-connected media blogger steeped in credibility.
Delete^^^^ Funniest Post ever ^^^^
DeleteShut-ins with busted radios.
DeleteYou inform me, educate me, entertain me, give me hope, restore my sanity, and make me laugh. You bring to your program the best of KGO in its heyday. You are for me what was once KGO. You have not only the courage of your convictions, but the courage of your perceptions as well. Your program has reach and impact.
ReplyDeletelol
DeleteYou excite me, you tickle my fancy, you freshen my palate and stimulate my peristalsis!
DeleteAnd, to quote the great Marty Lurie, "It's a Kick in the Pants to Drive!!" :)
DeleteSeriously, Marty would be a great guest.
Hey Rich,
ReplyDeleteA note from last night. As long as people here can and should be allowed to post "Anonymously", so do 98% of all talk show callers (or, they lie about their names at times.) Even in newspapers, those letters to the editor are also under a "nom de plume" and not actual names. Some are in the papers, but never on radio or on blogs.
What right do you have telling listeners that "you can criticize me for what I do if you tell me who you are"? Them's the breaks, dude. It is our freedom to tell you how we feel with you knowing who we are because on the air, you don't know who we are, either, so, get over yourself. Either understand that much of what you see, or edit because you don't want to see it in print, is what "freecom of speech" truly is, whether you like it or not. No one needs to tell you who they are, just what they want for you to know. After all, we only hear you to know you. You don't know us anymore than we know you. Keep it that way.
Rich is notoriously thin skinned and selectively censors comments on this website.
DeleteThere is a guy in Cleveland, Mike Trivisonno, this guy would never make it out here, but I highly recommend dialing him up on iHeart radio. Absoulutely non PC with and old world sensibility. I dont agree always but it is refreshing to listen to someone outside of this ridiculous market. I love the bay area, born and raised and I will never leave here, but many of the people here make me sick with their 'progressive' attitudes. Common sense seems to have left many of them
ReplyDeleteWhat are your thoughts about Rich Lieberman's new radio talk show on KOMY 1340 AM? Would you say he's neither left nor right, but rather a radical centrist with libertarian leanings?
DeleteNot necessarily preferable to prerecorded music or silence.
DeleteLieberman Live is stimulating for the mind.
ReplyDeleteRich: Let's just say that you've found a recipe for a successful talk show. A knowledgeable host, politics and interesting guests constitute the main course. Worthwhile social discourse.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately people who have never sat in the broadcast chair are making the most negative comments. I did it for 15 years between music and news-talk formats. Trust me it's not easy. Rich you are not quite a rookie or beginner just keep doing what you doing and you will be just fine. You never know you sharpen your skills, get noticed then you will hit the big time
ReplyDeleteI feel like that sentiment is lost around here, no? Doesn't seem like Rich gives Maureen Langdon or countless other hosts the same wide birth you're hoping he is given.
DeleteGet back to us when your nuance has evolved.
ReplyDeleteYour show sucks. I have an idea why don't you team up with Ralph. Now we will have two knuckleheads on the radio at the same time.
ReplyDeleterich, billy sunshine here ....still waiting .....you were a bit rude when i called your show....dropping me to talk to the flea(great show) i was trying to help and this is how you treat me..... i didnt realize my calls were so unwanted..... weekend nights on 1340 will be hard to build a great show .....i was trying to help.........never mind........good luck
ReplyDeletehey billy - don't feel bad - rich hung up on me too during his first show (i was also trying to help)... and then not only was he rude/suspicious, but he also insulted my singing (i've won awards with this voice!) - i think he's just going to have to figure it out for himself... you know what they say... "you can lead a horse to water, but that won't stop him from talking over his guests (snort, whinny), Wilbur!" - Goldstein from Los Gatos (AKA da Schnauzer)
ReplyDeleteWhat is the word on the podcasts? The blurb says the day after the show they will be posted but I only see the first weekend's shows up.
ReplyDeleteConstructive criticism should be helpful but ignore the rest of the negative crap here, Rich. It is far easier for some to tear down something than try to build and create.
