  2. Gary Radnich said early today that it wouldn't be right that the A's win the West after Texas had the lead so long.
EAT IT GARY!!..maybe when your 160,you'll get it!
    HA-HA-HA!

    2. Sure it was, he added "They should have enough to beat Oakland for one game, and win the division"
      HA-HA-HA!

  3. That was nice of Beane to take a shot at fans in the postgame celebrations. "There wasn't any interest in us here until two weeks ago".He said that TWICE ..and Glenn Kuiper to his credit never joined in the Oakland, fan and media bashing.
Beane..a necessary evil in charge. Poor Oakland.

  4. They still won't give the A's their props on KNBR tomorrow.

Been to both Giants and A's games this year, and the A's games were more fun.

If you're an A's fan, sure. Most casual fans that go to Giants game have a good time.

  5. Some valuable baseball thoughts:

The managers wear uniforms for no good reason.
    There are no cheerleaders...dumb.
Billy Bean manages to put the 2nd lowest payroll in the playoffs.
Another Bay bridge series might cause another erfquake.

  6. Congrats to the Oakland A's, from a Giants fan. And most importantly we heard today that the A's will remain in Oaktown for the next 5 years, (old Lew signed onto an extension lease.) So that the City of Oakland can get their stadium progress off the ground, and the A's can remain in Oaktown...where they belong. Good show Oakland!

  7. I was there today, and it was easily the most exciting sports event I witnessed in person since that epic Niners playoff win over the Saints a year ago at Candlestick. The energy from that ballpark was incredible! And has there ever been a team so downgraded and unheralded that has gone this far? Cant' remember!

In any case, I don't think any team in baseball would want to face the A's right now. They've got some magic going, and they're the hottest team in the Major Leagues. Let's see how far they go in the post season!

  9. Don't be sorry, Rich! Number 2 overall in the American League! Nobody imagined that the AL's two greatest franchises in its baseball history would finish 1-2 in the AL! And our Athletics split 5-5 with the Yankees! Keep enjoying the special season! Never mind that the last time the A's were exactly 94-68 was 1973. They went the distance in both the Pennant & World Series and WON IT ALL! Unfortunately, Home Field is only for one round and the new Triple Crown winner is a tremendous threat. Still, we love our Underdogs, and we believe it can be done!

  10. Such a wonderful story and hopefully it encourages the resolution to the limbo the A's have been in. If they stay in Oakland great; if they move to San Jose better for us southern folks but either way there needs to be a finale to this drama.

For any sports fan of any team in any sport, this was the best story this year!

Let's hope they can keep proving everyone wrong!

  11. Hey Anon 5:15: I thought the same thing. The A's and Giants have played off in the World Series twice. The first time in 1962 there was a massive storm. The second time, a major earthquake. I shudder to think what could happen on their third time out together.

    1. 1962 it was the NY Yankees vs SF Giants. You are correct about the rain though.

    2. The A's and Giants did play each other in the World Series one other time -- but it was I think over 100 years ago when the A's were in Philly and the Giants in New York. A's won, I'm pretty sure. (Going off memory. You could look it up. Of course, so could I.... but feeling sleepy.)

      Go Athletics!!

  12. Actually they met twice in 1905 and 1911. The Giants were managed by John McGraw and the A's by Connie Mack, two of the greatest skippers in the history of the game. The Giants featured the Greg Christy Mathewson and 'Iron Man' McGinnity and they won the 1905
matchup, four games to one as Mathewson threw three shutouts!

IN 1911, the A's, with Hall of Famers like Eddie Plank and Eddie Collins won an exciting series in seven games. They never met against until 1989 when they were relocated on the west coast, and of course you might remember that the A's won that Earthquake interrupted series in four straight. As much as we'd like to see if happen again, it probably won't, even though both teams are certainly as good as any in the game.

If they did meet, I'd have to pick the A's, only because if they did make it that far, they would be on such a roll they'd be hard to stop.

  13. The A's have 4 rookie pitches. Not sure teams are necessarily fearing them like you believe. Beating teams in the regular season is not like winning in the playoffs. Ryan Dempster seems to prove that when it counts.

I'm an A's fan, and what has been achieved is already great. I'd like to see more, but my expectations are tempered by the fact that no one on this team has playoff experience, and the pressure is huge.

I'd give the Giants the nod solely because their key players have already been there.

As for the best thing to happen in sports this year, I'm going to guess that is really a perspective thing, for sure. Fans in Alabama and Baton Rouge don't care what you think.
