Things can change. Minds too. But this one probably won't.
*One of the first things I did upon the end of that NFL MNF abomination of a game was to tune in Ted Robinson on KNBR, (who was doing his 49ers show) and the Packers-Seattle bizarro drew Robinson into his prime time element: a first-rate harangue of the NFL and its brand all but destroyed. Good assist from partner, Todd Husak.
*Speaking of the 49ers, the organization recently extended its radio broadcasting agreement with KNBR, 107.7 FM, (The Bone) another 12 years, (thereby ensuring the broadcasts will include the new stadium debut in 2014).
*Check out my interview on Wednesday with Fox Radio Host, Alan Colmes, on Radio Ink, (http://www.radioink.com)
*Michael Savage e-mailed that "My salary was double that of Ronn Owens in 2006", (at about $2M), although I pointed out that I was referring to local-exclusive hosts and that while Savage was on a local station, the bulk of his show is and was national syndication.
*A note to 415 Media from Don Sanchez of KGO-TV/ABC7: Today, Rich, is my 40th anniversary at KGO. 40 years at the same place continuously..don't know if it's a record may be.. they're putting together a little piece (showing my changing hair i think) that will run tomorrow. also i get cake at 3. and since you first mentioned it months ago, i can add i will be retiring at the end of the year. but...i will be coming back to do some events including the academy awards! Cheers Don!

..And Mike Savage's donations to charity's,civic groups, scholarships, that help people of color?..0$.
ReplyDeleteHe does donate to elephant causes and police and military memorials...
DeleteOh so he donates for dead people of color who served?..ah,a little too late.
Delete8:01, what does Savage owe the people of color, or anyone else for that matter. If he benefited from sorme sort of "make work" grant or handout, I'd agree, but I believe he made his own way in the world. Sharing is for kindergartners : /
DeleteI wish everybody who got a student loan like Savage would be honest about it. And unlike the people he says he now hates..those Savage helped as his first career as a social worker, those people weren't able to use a college degree to advance. And why Savages tears at barely making it as a SS worker while those he helped "had nice furniture"..doesn't move me. Mike's present furniture? would he trade that for those peoples'?..no,of course not. Or anything else about their lives except their youth.
DeleteSavage..what a great name to describe how he see's the world..like a true savage, dog eat dog.
Congratulations to Don Sanchez. 40 years in this business is a major milestone, but to put in 40 years in the same news shop is nothing short of extraordinary.
ReplyDeleteCongrats Bob. I'm sure your tax returns have your given name...
ReplyDeleteAnd If I never hear that story of "You were hired" when you changed to a Latino sounding name again?-good. Lets see if it had worked to also have been brown skinned.
Congratulations to Don Sanchez, I've watched him that long...40 years in the media is a miracle...
ReplyDeleteI seem to remember, back in the 70s, that Don Sanchez asked wrestler Pat Patterson if wrestling was fake, and Patterson threw him into a garbage can. Ah, the memories...
ReplyDeleteDon has shown his versatility by doing everything from anchoring, to features, to in the field reporting and even sports. A good guy, and it's nice to see that some solid broadcast journalists have
ReplyDeletesurvived the purge of 21st century media consolidation.
Congrats to Don Sanchez! As for the 49ers Santa Clara Stadium....1st it looks like an Ugly Cheap College Stadium, and 2nd Eff the Yorks!
ReplyDeleteIncidentally, the joint news desk was created last summer, well before News Corp. media furniture
