Are the Melk Men on Comcast payroll?

The "Melkmen" are a group of guys that root for the Giant's Melky Cabrera...and via a source, are on the Comcast payroll.

They do look a little too organized. On the other hand, wouldn't surprise me a bit.

  1. Those dweebs look about as spontaneous as political convention delegates.

    1. From Day 1 this had Larry Baer's fingerprints all over it. The next organic thing that comes out of 3rd and king will be the first

    2. No one said it was spontaneous.

But whether the Giants put them up to it or a bunch of whimsical fans got together and decided to do it on their own, they still had to arrange for matching uniforms and props ahead of time.

  2. That sounds right..every time they show up,they act no different than any other mascot. They say nothing and ..who buys milkman's costumes unless they have to for the job?

  3. On the other hand, these guys have a part-time summer job that helps them pay bills or college tuition. Too bad I'm way too freakin old, I'd apply for a job like that.

  4. They are either employees of KNBR or the Chronicle sports writers.

  5. 'The Melk-men' and the 'Melk-maids' are promotional ideas cooked up by that resident Giant genius Larry Baer. Each of the 'Melk-men' are paid a small stipend for the games that they show up to, (which are most of them), and that includes of course a prime ticket.

The 'Melk-maids' get pretty much the same mind of a deal, although they were not a part of Baer's original plan, but he has now gone along with it. Panda and Giraffe hats, 'Melk-men,' and "Let Timmy smoke!" t-shirts, get the customers into the park anyway you can!

  8. They work for the Giants. Was a promo designed to get Cabrera into the All-Star game.
Had it been some spontaneous fans doing it they wouldn't have had matching ties, uni's and access to all parts of the ballpark.
    Thought everyone knew this.

    1. Huh? If a bunch of fans decided to do it they could all wear identical outfits and probably would.

How do you know they work for the Giants? You say you thought everyone knew this, how do you know aside from presuming it's the case.

  9. It was painfully obvious that this is Comcast backed once they interviewed the maids and asked them ridiculous trivia questions, all of which they knew the answers to. C'mon man.

  12. Yes...it's common knowledge that the 'Melk-men' are Comcast plants who are paid by both Comcast Sportsnet Bay Area and the Giants.
They are NOT some spontaneous group of nutty hardcores that just came up with the idea as a novelty. There was, as they say:
"a method to this madness" as the big wigs with the Giants (Baer), and Comcast (Ted Griggs), came up with this idea. And don't believe anyone who tells you differently.

    1. Now they are paid by BOTH Comcast Sportsnet Bay Area and the Giants?

That just doesn't make sense. You say it's common knowledge, who are you? Do you work there or are you just assuming it.

How do you know Baer and Ted Griggs came up with the idea. This just sounds too much like made up stuff without any real facts.

  13. Could anyone please present a link to some credible information that these guys are paid by the Giants.

The things posted so far are just guesses or stupid comments: they all dress alike, they act like team mascots, this is a summer job, this is something Larry Baer would do...

The reason I have doubts is that there have been several different versions of the Melk Men and they all have different looks or is the suggestion that the Giants are paying for all of them.

My biggest doubt is that I was at a game with a bunch of well coordinated Melk Men and they were loud and obnoxious and making rude comments to Melk Maids. If these were actually Giants employees or being paid by the Giants, I'm sure they'd have to be better behaved.

    1. Finally, a voice of reason! I've seen no credible info that they are plants. As Damon Bruce said on his show this afternoon, if the Melkmen are on the payroll, that's a bummer and it takes the magic out of it. But if they're an authentic group of Giants fans, I'm lovin' it.

I did notice when I was at AT&T Park a couple weeks ago a between-inning thing where the giant in-house screen showed people in the crowd with the graphic of a "Melkman" hat on their heads, and the whole thing was sponsored by Real California Milk.

  14. Another corporate ploy by the Giants to get fans in the park and by more crap. Rich on an earlier post you hinted that Larry Baer and Brain Sabean had their fingerprints on Ralph's firing. Can you further the story? If this is true, it wouldn't surprise me as this is what can occur when media become literally a financial partner with the people they cover.

The "separation of church and State" or in this case, media and professional organizations is one of the many reasons I have moved over to the Game. I don't count on their demo because I listen via my IPhone App which I think is not all that uncommon (also catch WFAN). There is a big difference between being a flagship station and owning a piece of the action, in which case as fans, where are the harder hitting questions going to come from, who is going to stick up for the ticket holder and fans, etc. I used to be a loyal KNBR listener (although I agree with Rich on Damon) but the Game provides some listeners with people who have solid resumes like Papa and Steinmetz. If the Game starts to take more calls and integrates itself with the listening community versus "the McDonald Text line," they are going to make headway against the 50,000 watt flamethrower. If they acquire the Warriors and/or Raiders, watch out

  15. Shocking!!!! you mean the same team that markets every aspect of their players with panda hats etc now have idiots dressing in milkmen outfits? You will next state that the Warriors have a plant from Noon to 3 on KNBR.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Rich isn't claiming that it's true! All he said is he "wouldn't be surprised one bit" if the "Melkmen" were on the Comcast payroll.

Seems like we are going from it's possible, it's true, to it's an outrage without any proof.

    ReplyDelete
  17. If you don't know the 'Melk-man' are comcast employees, then you aren't paying attention. Why should it be a surprise?

    ReplyDelete

    1. I'm paying attention and what I've noticed is a bunch of people saying... oh yeah I know they work for Comcast because I just know they work for Comcast.

I don't know they work for Comcast and haven't seen any credible evidence that they work for Comcast.

    2. I HAVE been paying attention and until this b.s., I had never heard of this conspiracy. So, do us all a favor and sight your sources to whom you,ve paid attention to and PROVE IT! Just saying you know doesn't mean you do. Surprise us with some facts. Sheesh!

  18. I was wondering how Comcast always knew what game they would attend. And it is interesting that they seem block the aisles and no one ever asks them to move.

Yeah, that's like wondering how Comcast always knows where the ball is going to go before it's hit.

THEY DON'T HAVE TO KNOW AHEAD OF TIME. They have cameras, it's live, they show pictures of whatever happens.

  23. Hey...it's all about the 'benjamins' my friend! Baer and Griggs are maximizing their market potential by bringing in the
Melk-men' and having Kuiper and Krukow and the TV crew go to them whenever they want a little plug. It's all a way to make money for the team. Can't fault good old american ingenuity to find a new way to 'skin a cat.' The Giants are also selling game used bats, balls, and even bases that were used during actual games at their dugout stores. Who would waste the money to buy these sorts of things? Amazing how fans are stupid enough to waste money to buy such crap. But never underestimate the stupidity of the American public!

    1. So true. If Kevin Mitchell were still playing today, Baer would concoct some marketing scheme to sell fake gold teeth to fans and fans would buy them! Same if they sold Will Clark eye black.

  25. Ted Griggs and Larry Baer are laughing all the way to the bank while all of your stupid, clueless Giants fans who love 'Amy G.' and her banal, breathless, little girl questions: "Take us through that at bat Melky!" are paying through the nose.

Keep buying your nonsensical panda hats, your 'Let Timmy Smoke!' t-shorts, and your melk-man outfits before you walk into the park, and then turn it into some sort of ridiculous carnival!

  26. Larry Baer still kicking himself for arriving too late on the scene to peddle the Jack Clark unibrow {:-)

  27. I've been a fan of the Giants since their move from New York and attended hundreds of games. However, I'm rethinking my allegiance. Simply put, you can't get an honest read on the Giants with all media channels controlled by the Giants (through partial ownership or otherwise). While I'm cognizant that Larry Baer is revered by the ownership group for his marketing expertise, let's let the Giants grow organically - the Melkmen-Men promotion along with bobble heads, heritage nights, magnets, and their other nonsense promotions take away from the game. Shame on the Giants.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Amy G. should be promoted to play by play announcer. She's already a favorite of Griggs and Baer for her inoffensive, soccer-mom questions and ditzy little sidelights that constantly interrupt the action. Let's remove all pretense and replace Kuiper and Krukow with her and Jaimy Sire in the booth doing the play by play and color. I'm sure you'd get more women watching and the guys wouldn't mind of the scenery either!

  29. So, this last Sunday, on a comcast Giants show, they interviewed the Melkmen. What their leader said was that they came up with the idea, they had a relative or friend create the costumes. So his talk would indicate that it was not Larry B's idea. So was that a concocted segment on the Giants show to offset the growing opinion that the Melkmen were Larry B's idea? Or was it a genuine discussion of how the Melkmen came about? What do you think?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Believe me folks, I have it on very good authority that the 'Melk-men' ARE Comcast plants, and are paid by the Giants (given tickets and a small stipend.)

This whole nonsense about how a couple of guys came up with the idea spontaneously is a bunch of hooee! Baer and Griggs sat down behind closed doors (this is common knowledge in both the Giants' organization and at Comcast Sportsnet.) to talk over some new ideas to help promote things, and this is what they came up with.

The guy who had the 'Melk-man' idea is an employee of Comcast who first approached Griggs. He and the rest of the 'Melk-Men' are young interns who are trying to get in good with Comcast and the Giants. Maybe in the not too distant future, we'll see one of the "Melk-men' (or 'Melk-maids') co-anchoring the nightly 'Sportsnet Central' on Comcast with the likes of Dave Benz, Henry Woffard or Mindy Bach!
