Giants/Knibber Post-Game Wrap goes softo on Timmy; Happy Father's Day

Saturday night was pizza-planned and prepared for a "Timmy" event. I'm not a big baseball guy but I'm intrigued by watching Giants pitcher, Timmy Lincecum who is having a crummy season. He's 2-8 and looks unglued and unhinged out there, but I wanted to watch him pitch against the Mariners in his hometown of Seattle.

Timmy was crappy again. In fact, I'd reckon that he's now officially been relegated from "Timmy" to Tim status.

I was all set to listen to the Giants popular "Post-GameWrap" on the Knibber show because I looked forward to hearing what Kruk and Kuip, Dave Flemming and Jon Miller would say about Lincecum.

Well, outside of Krukow, and he still defended Tim, nobody said anything. Literally. In fact, a hearty round of giggling was the main event on Saturday night. How odd. How bizarre. Call me crazy but I expected more from the boys.

Krukow has been defending crummy Timmy all year with occasional bursts of criticism, but nothing outside the box. Saturday night after the game, when Lincecum was performing his usual poor act, Krukow sounded positively ridiculous. "I see some improvement," he said, in between a few statements of "concern." It should be noted that all the lads are paid by the Giants. That's pointed out by the apologists who then indicate that the team pays the broadcasters therefore they cannot rip the team.

Excuse me for injecting a reality bite here, but Jon Miller is way up on the food chain to where some criticism--constructive criticism, is not only justified, but expected. Instead, on Saturday night, all Miller said was nothing. Not a peep. Kuiper's participation was to provide a joke. Giggle, giggle, ha ha.

Leave it to me to bring a subject matter like this on Father's Day, but how many Father's Day items have you seen on Twitter and Facebook, (that said, Happy Father's Day).

The Post-Game Wrap is hardly the location for Sports journalism. I get it. Most of 'yous just lap it up and wait for the player of the game pick even if the Giants lose 15-0. It's a booster club present to the faithful every game, sure, but the Lincecum affair is now topic A even on the non-sports domain. He's not the same pitcher. Everyone outside Obama has offered an opinion. Which only further reinforces my complete bewilderment that the Giants' broadcasters, minus Krukow, chose to pull the crickets card on Saturday. Even if you're a Giants fan, that's lame, right? Maybe I'm in the minority.

What do you think?

  1. Can't stand these blatant homers in the Giants booth. Jon Miller's not as bad as the others, but he should of said something. And, no, Timmy is not showing improvement. He allowed 5 earned runs in 5 innings, rasing his era from 5.8 to 6.1. He's been a consistent dud his last 9 games and has gotten progressively worse each start. If these idiots can't see this, I lost what little respect I had for them in the first place. Bought and paid for by the Giants, these guys make me sick!!
Because of Timmy's horrid year and Zito losing what magic he had earlier in the season, the Giants won't make the playoffs, not even a wild card.

  2. Amen, Rich. I love all the Giants broadcasters, but the Timmy thing is starting to annoy me. Back in late April, after every start we'd hear, "He's almost putting it together. He's almost there." It's been repeated after EVERY start, and after two months, he's still not putting together, and he's still not "there". Someone, anyone, has to come out and say, look, right now, he sucks. He's the weak link of the staff, and that's pretty embarrassing for a guy making $20M (just ask Zito).

That two-year contract is looking like a stroke of genius by Sabean right now.

  3. Lincecum wanted A two year deal.

  4. That's what you get when four white guys all know that they are paid by more whites guys..and all agree to protect the brand name. And where can three 60+ year old announcers go? Soon, they will be telling each other how much they love each other and what great guys they are..as time killers. It's being done elsewhere..

You think if Vida Blue is in the booth things would be different?

    2. Yes. It would be better. Without a doubt. You got yer answer-can you handle it?

    3. And I laugh at the stupidity of the conservatives who see that EVERY announcer doing PBP and color cast is white talking about a sport that's mostly black and Latins-AND it has ALWAYS BEEN THAT WAY..and they say that's NOT racism?..lol..I told you I laugh..

    4. Stan, will you once and for all just SHUT THE FUCK UP?

I don't even think "Stan" is your real name, you picked it up from Monty Python and the character in the People's Front of Judea who wanted to be called "Loretta" because he felt he was really a woman inside.

So, Stan... What have the Americans ever done for US????

    5. Anon 4:14 - you SERIOUSLY have your facts - WRONG!

      1) Baseball has never been "mostly black".
      2) Even after integration, I'm not sure how high the African American (AA) representation was - though there were, I will say, a larger percentage of the top players who were AA.
      3) Lastly, you seem to have missed the last 20 years, were AA particiation in baseball has plummeted. AA youngsters are choosing basketball, football, rap music, and the streets, over our nations past time. But hey, it's a free country.

  5. Nice to see STAN at 1244 using his OLD song of racism.

Hey Rich, Miller and Flemming were brutal towards Lincecum WHILE the game was actually going on. Did you not know this?

    1. Name the pro Black,Asian ,or Latin PBP man the bay area has had in Baseball,Football,Basketball...or Hockey over the last 40 years. I give you only Joe Angel..who of course was light skinned. Name that black or Asian in the most liberal bay area of the USA.
How about Media Program Directors? GM's? And if you name ONE,excuse me if I don't applaud.
Its easy to say there is no bigotry when your never the one to be the recipient.
I think Joe had..a few seasons. And then you have the ones who are going for decades. They don't tan well.

    3. Idiots. Morgen was ESPN..and the Spanish version of PBP is just another form of the the racist "seperate but equal".
As always..I'm right with what I'm talking about, and critics wish I was wrong. I wish too..but the bigotry in bay area radio is strong.
And ..even your wrong guesses..were one. Ironic.

    1. Free country. Free blog. Rich fakes it. He is clueless in trying to be a big-time reporter. He is not one. He doesn't know the rules of being so. Rich is a minor league blogger who works for free and writes a lot of rumor, conjecture and speculation -- even telling untruths.

In a free country, one can do that. On the other hand, anyone can post here (though posts are magically deleted at times) and anyone can post and visit here. Telling them to "look away" means nothing. It is what it is. Rich's opionion billed with a large helping of bullshit.

    4. 213..That wasn't your friendly neighborhood Stan. There are more then one people here who post. And -get this -plenty have criticism of KNBR and you know who in particular.
Although, today he was normal..If he keeps that up I might watch more of the show.

BTW-Be careful on seeing Stan's everywhere...

    5. Yeah, the obvious Stan posts are the ones berating whites in general, and straight white males especially. Usually a bit of a froth job. Fairly entertaining for the most part, until you realize the person posting them means it...

    6. How do you know who's straight? Conservative white males-married,make the largest mensroom arrests. Look it up.

  14. I've alwasy thought K&K overrated former jocks. Easy to listen to, but no Vince Scully, I will tell you that. And I'm a Giants fan.

I would think they would have noted whether he lost weight, whether he should miss a start, and then there is the unspoken issue... are his "off the field" activities hurting him? And what does his Dad think?

  17. Good post Rich.
I honestly do not mind Krukrow and Kuiper's handling of the Lincecum after all they work for the Giants and their behavior is understandable.
The media who should know better and do their best to protect and cover-up the Giants short-comings are:
    KNBR &
    Chronicle sports writers.
To them everything is coming up Giants (Roses). Nothing critcal can be discussed about the local nine. Honest objective analysis of the Giants playing or of management is totally off limits.
    You gotta love that reporting.

  18. Tolbert was berating one of the Giants announcers about a month ago (can't remember which one,) saying they had to stop spinning Lincecum's losses as good pitching, but with a few bad breaks.

  19. Gotta remember the broadcasters work for the Giants.... But I wanna know why it seems like Kuiper is Stewed... Wasted... passing out by the time this "show" is on, just an hour after the game???

  20. Kim Coyle is a nice lady and did a reasonably good job for what they paid her, but she was never a full fledged member of KPIX as they had her working freelance. That's why they fired Rick Quan after
15 years and replaced him with Kim, to save money and also not have to pay benefits.

Kim should have 'read the handwriting' that these guys were using her to go cheap, but she hung in there, probably with the hope that eventually management would come around and give her some kind of reward. It never happened. Perhaps she should have confronted them and asked them to either give her a fulltime job
or tell her to look elsewhere.

Unfortunately, she became comfortable here in the area
(who wouldn't), and it made it difficult for her to push them.
I feel for Kim, but in the best of all possible worlds (the traditional media before 2000), Kim never would have gotten a job
on KPIX anyway because she was more suited for a medium market.

Again...the woman worked hard and got along with the athletes.
But this is the #6 market in the country, and I just don't think Kim Coyle was a top 10 market talent. No shame in that!
