Barbieri to 95. 7 FM 'in Some Role' Makes the Rounds; UPDATED

It's merely rumor, but it's heating up and making the rounds. (UPDATE BELOW)

Ralph Barbieri to, 'perhaps', land a gig over at 95.7 FM, The Game. A few people have whispered it to me and insist they're talking.

Something is brewing because I got a whiff of info, (non radio-related) from a person very close to Barbieri earlier on Friday. The person chose not to go into specifics...on anything.

One thing is clear: If Ralphie somehow migrated to The Game, there's nothing to lose. Particularly for the Game as it stands hopeless now trying very hard to move a needle that badly needs to be moved. And Ralph, apparently out of the potential, "let me go to court" and make my case against Cumulus and Knibber, (which, at best, would be years away with a 1 in 10 chance of winning) smelling for a new gig.

So, don't be shocked if the Razor, 4.0 were to work a deal over at the FM outpost. They have nothing to lose. And Ralph has everything to gain...less his Cumulus indoor parking spot at 55 Hawthorne. I'm sure Entercom could work something out for him in that arena.

Stay tuned.

UPDATE: 8: 31 PDT:

The Game just announced that Barbieri will appear Monday at 5 PM to "tell his side of the story." May or may not mean anything, but don't be surprised if they use it to ...(guess)

  1. The afternoon show with Brandon Tierney and Eric Davis will be interviewing Ralph on Monday. They are taking questions on their Facebook page but the comments left by many Raider and A's fans, who aren't enough to bump The Game's numbers apparently, are very vocal about NOT hiring Ralph for a gig. And many old KNBR listeners too regardless of team affiliation.

I don't know if they are taking calls but, if they are (with probably a heavy dose of screening), it might be a good time to call, Rich. Or say you are Brent Jones or Dwayne Kuiper and maybe they'll cut off the previous caller and give you the VIP treatment and get you right on. :)

Anyway, he is suppose to give his side of the story. Could this hurt his legal case? Smart idea or bad?

  3. I would tune in to listen to Ralph. Especially if they put him in a slot up against Tolbert.

  4. Thanks for the info. I have not tuned in to Mr T since Ralph's departure
I will listen to his side and would love to have Ralph back on the air. Go Sharks!

  5. I do not understand how an organization (95.7) by doing exactly the same things, and I mean right down to paired hosts expects expects an improvement by making the same mistakes over and over.

The reception is horrible and spotty at best when traveling around the Bay Area. So bad its hardly worth the effort.

As much as Barbieri was a blowhard, he was never intimidated by the big money interests in media and sports. I did not think I would miss him, but holy cow, sports talk radio is incredibly boring, monotonous, and sycophantic. Little more than extensions of the front offices. Only players are criticized or satirized.

  7. Dear Entercom. Make the offer to Ralph. You'll have at least one happy convert to 95.7

  8. I wish this Has-Been would just go away. I've put up with The Game's shitty signal in the interest of fighting the repulsive KNBR, however if they hire this lispy piece of trash then the Game will officially lose a memory dial in my vehicles.

Ralph - go away. Firing you is the one thing KNBR has gotten right in the past several years.

  9. KNBR had just posted an opening for a PM Drive co-host. Maybe they've already filled the position (Byrnes?) and the posting is just for EEO requirements. But still interesting.

KNBR 680/1050 The Sports Leader in San Francisco is looking for a full time sports-talk show host to work on "The Mr. T Show" weekdays 3-7pm.

You will work with longtime bay area sports radio personality Tom Tolbert. We are looking for someone to be the "Pilot" and ensure the show is smooth and maintains fluidity. You will also be responsible for developing daily strategies, story angles and guest ideas. KNBR 680/1050 is the flagship station for the Giants, 49ers, and Warriors. ONLY CANDIDATES WITH FIVE YEARS OR MORE OF HOSTING SPORTS-TALK RADIO SHOWS WILL BE CONSIDERED.

  11. well they'll have to officially shelve all their positioning promos...about being the anti-KNBR etc, if Ralph is aboard. Still, they need help and Ralph could probably drag some listeners with him. The interesting thing about Ralph is that his fans may seem in small numbers but his detractors are also listeners, which is all that matters.

  12. Please keep 3DUI Barbieri off The Game. I've listened on the internet since the Rise Guys left KHTK. If he joins, I'm history.

  13. The Razor has the right to work..let him be! I'll tune into him at the Game.

  16. Oh I see, 95.7's Grade C level talent & bad programming has worked so well so far they'll really fuck it up if they opt for a known commodity. It's always hilarious to hear fan/radio buffs talk out of their ass, who know nothing about building audience. Sure Ralph is lazy, annoying, & past his prime, but if 95.7 hires him they are looking at sponsorships more than ratings. Yes, they can make more revenue with this ass-clown than without him. Do you really think there are people standing in line to have Townsend do endorsements (and he is one of the better talents) This station is bleeding money to the tune of tens of thousands a month, the few die-hard listeners here and there don't mean jack shit. The Bay Area market is back water now, has been for awhile. It's not special nor are you: radio listeners. Jason: what a hot-shot you turned out to be. The only smart thing you've done is grab the WW1 MNF package from KNBR, but that isn't what really happened is it? No. WW1 was so pissed at Cumulus (for savagely cancelling a ton of WW1 programming on Cumulus owned stations they handed out MN Football packages to any takers just to get them away from Cume-USe-Less. Jason: you let a fat bald, go-fer beat your ass with an AM stick. Ha.
