Sunday Questions for Lieberman

You really think Barbieri has a case? A.K. Foster City

I don't have a clue, A.K. and I'm not a lawyer. If I were to bet, I'd say Ralph is looking for some sort of financial settlement. Which would not only benefit him, but Cumulus too which even if they think Razor has no case, I'd doubt they'd want some protracted legal show which might expose some of their dirty laundry, of which there's plenty. Wait and see. In either case, It'll be ugly.

Why do you harp on Ronn Owens and Gary Radnich so much? D.L. San Francisco

Because they make it easy, D.L.
In Ronn's case, his day-after summation on the air was a disaster of epic proportions. He acted like some spineless buffoon on his first day on the job kissing a lot of corporate ass. He should have either took his vacation a day sooner or not had appeared on the air at all. His gee-we're-gonna-be-great spiel sounded disingenuous and he pissed a lot of people off. Nobody asked him to quit his job--we all just expected more than 15 minutes of bullshit. Owens has remained silent and lost all sorts of credibility....as for Radnich, I just exposed a ton of crap behind his aw-shucks shield. Gary's been exposed for the person he is, other than that, he's a fine young chap, (for the 99th time!)

What happened to Karel? C.K. Santa Cruz

Nothing. He took the weekend off. He's just fine. Lately.

What gives you the credentials to write about the media? L.R. Santa Ana, CA.

Well, you'll have to judge for yourself. I had my first job in radio at 18 at K-101 Radio as Sports Director. Worked for several radio networks and spent considerable time in newsrooms and knew/know many in the business which doesn't make me an expert but rather a fine, lovely, male torso of information-gathering darts that many find useful and helping. I've hit a few homers and I've struck out a few times too. I never said I was perfect.

Who has the best TV newscast in the Bay Area? R.C. Oakland

Hands down, (still) The 10 O'Clock News on KTVU, but KGO-TV and KPIX are vastly improved at 5 and 6. Frank Somerville, Julie Haener, Bill Martin and Mark Ibanez do a steady job delivering the day's news, sports and weather. Although the pace and style of the show have been altered, it's still a quality newscast.

Why don't you cover alternative FM stations like KALX, KPOO, KQED, etc? A.H. San Francisco

Because, quite frankly, I'm not that much a fan of FM outside of KCSM and KQED because of the Krasny show, (Forum). Live 105 every now and then.

Could you please explain in specific terms one particular thing that "exposes" Radnich for what he is?

    1) Obviously Ralph is looking for a financial settlement.

    2. Cumulus is not worried about about a protracted legal show because that takes money and Ralph doesn't have enough nor is there enough money at stake for Ralph to undertake an expensive legal battle.

    3. You keep talking about "dirty laundry" as if there's some awful truth that Cumulus is hiding and will go to any extreme to conceal. Hogwash. They are a nasty company, they do nasty things, so what?

    1. so what??? ever hear of punitive damages?

    2. I've heard about punitive damages because I'm a lawyer and none of Ralph's purported claims puts Ralph in a position to collect punitive damages.

He's looking at a couple of months worth of compensation, BEST CASE SCENARIO.

    3. successful age discrimination plaintiffs are entitled to both compensatory and punitive damages.

    1. Simon, Is this supposed to make sense?

To prevail in a legal case you have to prove that someone did something to you that is prohibited by law.

The fact that one side is nasty or hurts your feelings isn't a legitimate legal cause of action.

Obviously you are convinced that Ralph will win a big settlement. Congratulations. Why don't we just sit back and wait for that to happen?

  5. Cumulus is a nasty company
    1) Yes, but they are not concerned about readers of this blog. They need listeners to listen. People who see some virtue in the companies that run the stations "they love" this perception in the general public is one worth protecting. After all there is a large franchise to protect covering many formats.

If Cum radio and others like it were unconcerned they would not respond to rumors etc. They do. They employ people whose only job is to burnish the brass. In moments of high anxiety, the brass responds.

The lawsuit by Ralph and his lawyers is personal. The money needed with a family friend lawyer is much less than for the rest of us. This is a San Francisco v outsiders fight. Ralph's lawyers, Angela Alioto et al" know what it costs going in.

I will be anonymous this time, as there may be work in the future.

    1. OK, All this nonsense about Cumulus shaking in their boots about Ralph's big lawsuit.

My opinion is Ralph doesn't have much of a case and is fighting for a couple of months of additional compensation which he may be able to obtain in a settlement.

Other than that he's not going to get back his job, win a huge cash award, or salvage his damaged pride.

Why not just sit back and see what happens.

  6. How About when Raddy used to Park one of his first Bentleys in an alley way when Agnos and Anthony Ribera were public servants along with the politically connected Frank Jordan and the SF PD beat cops had to gently knock on the windows with their billies and gingerly ask The Rad to move on with his company and fondness with SF's infamous lady boys.

How about dating Alicia a then Intern while the long time and classy mother of his children waited at home....

Or luring over Pam Moore - who was friends with Frankie Beverly...

The other day Raddy tried to interview Culberson and his opening line was "So how do you like playing third base"? Culberson gently = I've been at 2b now for three years.

Except for Ralph, Gary has done the smallest amount of sport specific research of anyone at KNBR. That's why Raddy makes fun of Marty Lurie.......

    1. Yeah, what about all these lames things? Just a bunch of vague gossip and even if they were all 100% true, who cares?

  7. Peter Cooperstein is fronting Ralphs legal fees.

  8. My advice to Angelica and Peter? Find all the people of color sports hosts who felt they were never given "equal opportunity" with KNBR. And she /they would have a great class action lawsuit over racism and disability's. Under Hammer,no Asian,Latino or African male or female other then Rod Brooks has spoken a word as a host.

If you were in a position to offer useful legal advice, you'd be getting paid for it instead of spouting incessant drivel on the internet!

  10. Gary is great on radio, very funny especially now with Larry. I hated Ralph on radio. He always felt he was superior, if he didn't like some body he never held back his feelings on radio. So now once again Ralph (i know you read these blogs), here's a message for you "You always sucked and you will always suck" Get the message, go back to Europe, you dumb ass, Yes Dumb Ass that what you called people on radio. How does it feel now Bozzo!!!
