What about Radnich and Owens? Friday Short

*RADNICH

He just re-upped and was quite public about getting a new two-year deal, (without mentioning he's now making less than half of what he was making about five years ago; about $200G down from about $450G in 2005-'06).

He's getting to the point where they'll keep him just out of necessity because he still has a big enough name and drawing lure for advertisers, but clearly, his days are numbered, hence the addition of new house shill, Larry Krueger, who now understands how to keep one's mouth shut, tow the company/Giants line, be a "team player" and yes, of course, work cheap.

*OWENS

Ronn Owens is a good company man, albeit a man on his way out once his personal services contract is up in January 2013. There's a slew of personal issues that are on the horizon for an Owens/Cumulus face-off, which we will explore at a later time.

  1. Sure Radunich just re-upped for two years but Ralph had also done the same (albeit for 1 year) recently. If I were Radunich I would not feel too comfy, I do agree he has a loyal following among the backward hat wearing, XXXXXXXXL pants below the knees crowd of the Bay Area, that is why he caters to them mentioning Hip Hop, Ebony Magazine and the Khardashians ad nauseam ....

  4. Clear Channel is NOT the good guy. They fired entire markets recently. Read this link. Clear Channel, Cumulus, Entercom, all these companies are EVIL! They only care about one thing...the bottom line!

  5. Radnich has always come off so swarmy to me. I have always hated him. Why was he promoted to DEATH years ago? Yuck. He should be let go NOW.

  6. Illustration of Gary Radnich's Supposed Knowledge

Gary Radnich said this about the 7'5" BYU basketball center the GS Warriors drafted - Shawn Bradley - "He has the complexion to make the connection."

Translation: Because he is (was) white, Bradley would garner millions upon millions of dollars in TV and radio endorsements.

Question: anyone recall any co. who hired Shawn Bradley?

In Fact, the majority of the top 10 $$$ earners for endorsement dolars are ... African American.

Yes, Gary, we know that your wife is a "woman of color"... but this doesn't necessarily give you any inside information.

  9. This thread is a pause for thought. Who is/was more annoying? Ralph or Radnich? Without a doubt, Radnich. So how long will Gary last???

  10. My guess is that 2013 Gary will be gone from KNBR. Cumulus is slowly divesting itself of the veteran talent, and those who are fairly well paid are usually the older folks in the building.

If you haven't been paying attention, just watch what they've been doing to their other stations around the country. I don't understand it. They're kind of like the A's, going for cheap, unproven talent. But unlike the A's who at least have some kind of have a plan for the future,
Cumulus doesn't seem to have any kind of master programming plan.

They remind me of those aliens in the movie 'Independence Day,' who came here to suck all of the resources out of the planet and then move on to the next hapless world. I don't know how or why people like this have been allowed to move into broadcasting and ruin what was once a venerable profession.

Thanks again to all of the Republicans and Ronald Reagan, who championed deregulation as something that would make business less constrained and stronger. Unfortunately, they didn't figure on all of the outsourcing and downsizing that was going to go on while the rich 1 percent of the country got richer.
