Cumulus ,Clear Channel, and Entercom,my god no wonder the government used to block such a monopoly..until George Bush jr took us back the 19century.
What I also notice Rich is how many formerly big names in local radio(KLIV,KLOK,KNEW,and KFRC just to name a few) are just barely breathing. The farm report gets bigger ratings.
KNBR..is just a 24/7 infomercial for the Giants and 49ers. The 6 hour pregame and 8 hour postgame shows are KNBR not getting enough Giants..its talk shows just fill air time in between. At least THEGAMES ratings are honest ratings.
Keep some facts in mind: KLIV is a weak San Jose AM station at the top of the dial, and has to reduce power after sunset to boot. It superserves the small area it can actually put a respectable signal into. KLOK is just a legacy set of call letters for a San Jose station that runs foreign language block programming these days. The KNEW calls now grace the former KABL, also a weak sister with a terrible signal that makes the new Newstalk 910 seem like KGO by comparison. And KFRC only exists as the calls for the FM side of the KCBS simulcast; the separate AM has been gone from 1550 since last summer. (KFRC-FM HD2 continues pretending to be the former 106.9 music format, but almost nobody's listens to HD programming unless it's via an Internet stream or a translator.)

ReplyDeleteWell KABL is still alive via live stream: http://bit.ly/KABL96 or via iTunes http://bit.ly/KABL960.
DeleteAll terrestrial radio is a joke. The best in broadcasting are either dead, fired, or retired!
