As I predicted many times here, KGO-TV has canned its in-house program, '7Live', hosted by Brian Copeland.
Here's the story
It didn't help matters that 7 Live was placed in the Death Valley 3-4 PM time slot, but simply stated, the show wasn't very good either.
It's that easy to conclude.
I guess those two year deals ain't worth the paper they're written on...
ReplyDelete- ICN
It wasn't nearly as good as Spencer Christian and Janelle Wang's "The View from the Bay," and that didn't last too long either.
ReplyDeleteI for one would like to note the passing of a radio personality everybody liked (such people used to exist, as hard as it is to believe), one of the most versatile in the business: the bespectacled, silken-voiced Roy Storey. Disk jockey, newscaster, sportscaster, and one of the best hockey play-by-play men on the continent. If you remember him, one phrase comes to mind: "Shot on goalllll!"
What that show needed was a sexy female co -host who could be the equal of Brian in zingers. Elizabeth Bermudez was married, too conservative and didn't have much sex appeal. Yes,she was attractive, but she wasn't much of a camera tease.
ReplyDeleteThere is an old saying that TV is always 10 years behind society's trends(the 60's sexual revolution didn't make TV sitcoms until the 70's for example)..local TV is 30.
Wait,Ann Fraser was a tease on "People are Talking" for KPIX. And that's why THAT show lasted 20 years.
Word.
DeleteShow needed a Vicki Liviakis type.
I have never thought much of Copeland. Not funny, never gives an opinion, and just boring! How he survived the KGO blood bath is beyond me
ReplyDeleteAnon 2:27: You are a jerk. I don't think many women give a crap about how cute other women are. Rosie O'Donnell's show was a huge hit and she is no beauty queen. The show went under when her politics became more apparent. Oprah is no beauty, and OH GAWD, she was fat and her show was a ratings monster until the end. That's the domain for the piggies. I thought the show was okay and I definitely liked it better than the hot mess that was on before. They dealt with offbeat topics and it wasn't just another how to be a happy homemaker show. It was probably too liberal, which is why it tanked. Men can be ugly as a butt crack but women always have to provide the eye candy for the piggies. You want eye candy, go dial up some porn or something. What a disgusting comment.
ReplyDeleteOprah's no beauty? Do you need glasses or are you legally blind?
DeleteJane, you ignorant slut. Sex sells. Go write Chelsea Handler or even Wendy Williams.
DeleteIts tele VISION. Like it or not.
Anonymous 08:16, you are sick. Like it or not.
Delete754,You live in a fantasy world. That you rail against that woman should be attractive to men is so bizarre. What a strange person you are. Beauty contest winners must make you vomit!
DeleteThey needed a younger hipper host. Every time I see him in a blazer talking a bout tweets and face book posting I cringe.. Elizabeth's clothes were terrible too.. the set looked cheap too =(
ReplyDeleteThe problem with copeland is I cant understand what he is saying I keep turning up the tv ,I also cant understand that cute weather girl on kron in the morning,
ReplyDeleteHow long before you start with the...
ReplyDeleteI remember those good old days when they had great shows like 7 Live.
About the time people start saying "I remember the days when a good solid outfit like Cumulus ran our radio stations...those guys knew how to look after their home town audience..."
DeleteOh, that's funny!
Delete"This is Brian Copeland talking ..." See ya! Now if only Cumulus would add its warm touch to the festivities and remove Copie from KGO as well. Disengenuous, indeed, and a bore as well. Good move.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of canned...wheres Grace Wong on ch5 in the mornings? Her temp(or perm)replacement is strangely like a visual non Asian version of Grace.
ReplyDeleteFYI, it's Grace Lee. She's back on reporting.
DeleteThanks 223. SO many media names,I'm bound to get one Wong sooner or later.
DeleteA lot of good and talented people are out of a job.
ReplyDeleteCopey is hard to listen on radio but seeing his face on tv is asking too much. The way his eyes bulge when he speaks, his man boobs, his oily skin, his annoying voice and those weird coloured blazers he wore were tough on the eyes and ears. Give Rich credit, he called this one a while ago.
ReplyDeleteA shame. As a manager of a long time local (fantastic!) musician, we are always looking for vehicles for local PR. Losing shows like this hurts.
ReplyDeleteI tried watching the show in the very beginning, but I couldn't get past Copeland's annoying voice and no neck body. I really can't stand his voice.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly!
DeleteRE: Your comments on Ralph
ReplyDeleteWell done, Rich. Ralph was unique and I wish him well.
Why is is that so many radio and TV hosts and reporters have to be 'edgy' today? What ever happened to being credible, professional, and showing an interest in the subject, rather than being the focus?
ReplyDeleteRadio and TV have become the domain of the 'cheap' celebrity..i.e. someone who couldn't make it on stage or in Hollywood, so they picked the next best thing. Meanwhile, those who trained, studies and prepared for working in the media were squeezed out by these cartoonish figures, who only confirm the dysfunctional behavior that Americans seem to willingly embrace in their mass culture. I don't get it.
I mean, I understand the whole ratings thing, and I know that management doesn't give a f...about content, as long as people are watching.
Does anyone remember the movie 'Network?' A failing TV network gives a guy (a former respected news anchor) his own show after the man goes through a major mental breakdown on the air, sounding like some candidate for the loony bin. They exploit this poor fool in the name of getting higher ratings, then kill him off on live TV after he begins to rant on his show about all of the bad things these media companies are doing. I hate to say it, but we aren't that far away from that kind of programming.
20 years ago, the concept of tabloid and 'reality TV' becoming major players in the profession would have been laughable. Now it's blindly accepted and digested by the public, like some toxic, but tasty fast food.
People just seem to love cheap and useless shows that aren't even entertaining...'junk food programming' because it's been stuffed down their gullets so long, they don't know any better.
And young people today are so historically challenged that they have no idea of what was going on in their country 30 years ago, let along the last ten! It's all very sad and doesn't say much about what we've become.
@5:02PM, you cannot understand that weather girl on KRON because she, too, was an intern only a year or two ago, looking for the big time. She has no formal education in meteorology and yet, finds herself selling it on the morning show. She's cheap and eager. The way KRON likes 'em. Nevermind the viewer.
